Pete Sellers is just perfect portraying Dr. Strangelove and Kubrick just a visual Genius this is without doubt one of the greatest black comedys ever made. Just gorgeous.
There was an alternate scene where at the end of the movie they had a food fight... I think they should have combined the one here and the food fight! :D
Really? I thought he was just taking pictures of the "Big Board", something which Kubrick inserted into the film to show that despite the fact that the tensions between the U.S.A. and the U.S.S.R. would have become irrelevant after the activation of the doomsday device, these men still would go ahead and fight each other anyway because, well, such is human nature, to quarrel when there is nothing to quarrel about. He's taking pictures of the big board because that was his mission.
The funniest scene I have ever seen in any movie. Strangelove is of of course an ex-naxi, and cannot forget his past. His right arm certainly remembers. Extraoridarily funny.Thank you, U-tube!
For the record, I fuckin love this movie. But that is a weird scene, and being a Kubrick film, I have a tendency of over-analyzing it. Was this just meant to be cure comedy and nothing else?
@WeAreLegion00110 It is really simple, they let the war happen because it was beneficial to their own interests. It was social commentary on the Cold War at the time.
@knowsfords This social commentary is as accurate today as it was that time. And the secrets of secret gov't Kubrick gives away along with the film are very true to this day also.
@SL1200Ltd so generals and poltiicals meeting together is a secret government, even when it happens all the fucking time? Hell, the picture of the staff about osamas death? This is a common move - military-political agreement and so so, not secret.
@danuisortiz Yes, I'm glad you're observant they do meet don't they.
Ask yourself what would be best place to hide something? In a mine shaft, underground layer? No, out in the open.
You do see them al the time and they let you know who does what and it all looks natural but who knows what are their roles behind the closed doors. It may well be the one giving orders isn't the formal president.
The secret gov't doesn't mean they'd run around dressed in black cloacks like in childrens books.
Amazing how Strangelove and the President are both played by Peter Sellers. You'll notice when both are on screen the President is seen only from behind.
@mickeymousebiker1 Kissoff is the unseen/unheard Soviet Premier with whom Pres. Merkin Muffley (look those up!) has the telephone conversation. Bull is playing De Sadesky, the Soviet ambassador.
@jackal59 You are correct. I was having an "off" day when I posted that comment. Anyway, De Sadesky (Peter Bull) was trying hard not to laugh at Strangelove (Sellers) when his gloved hand began to act on its own. I believe there is an actual condition where human hands "act" involuntarily on their own.
Ok, this is after the ride in the bomb? :D

No matter how hard he tries, Strangelove can't hide the fact that he's a nazi, his words and actions prove that he's a nazi.
