Yelp is a bad business model. It encourages people to judge other people...often time with a lot of malice. It starts out with good intention, but have been hijacked by a lot of mean spirited people.
Small Businesses for the most part hate Yelp...and most are desperate to find an alternative. Yelp is destine to fall because its business is base on fear and intimidation.
Once you own a business, thanks to Yelp, you'll experience the amazing power of petty and mean spirited people who knows how to write well and get away with destroying people's dream without having to answer for it. These malicious people are the backbone of Yelp.
@Melusine62 Yelp has some real filtering issues for sure. I am an active Yelper and enjoy reviewing where I go, but that does not mean that I believe every review I read on Yelp. Too many businesses have figured out how to hire people/friends/family to open up new Yelp accounts only so they can post a glowing review and then never review another place. That's crap. I don't know how they can improve their accuracy and still allow people like you and me to post our opinions just like e-opinions.
yelp allowed someone to post a bad review on a business we love and even gave the person a compliment on their page saying they wish the business was not around! then you know what they did? they removed the positive review we gave on the business after a week. real objective of them isn't it? and what's more check out they have NO COMMENTS on their page on yt - try leaving a comment, a critical comment about THEM and watch - it won't get posted.
If you are a business owner and you read Yelp you need to pay attention to the reviewer's number of friends and reviews submitted. If they have no friends and only one or two reviews, no picture of themselves or real name, the you should be rightfully suspect, both on positive an negative reviews.
Yelp soliciting a business for a promise of reducing the negative reviews or otherwise manipulating the reviews for a better score is just wrong.
yeah that's a bunch of bullshit too. the fact that they remove reviews if you have no FEEEERENZ... OH COME ON - WHAT A BUNCH OF BABIES. they say they're objective, but they're lying through their teeth. why the hell should i have to add a bunch of people i don't know from yelp just to have my reviews seen?
yelp sucks and needs to be put out of business forever.
Look closer at the filtered reviews. I am not a business owner that has been reviewed, just a consumer/reviewer who has started to notice that the supposedly "automated" filtering that is supposed to screen out less trustworthy reviewers does not look automated.
