I've been doing my research about African wrestling since Youtube has opened my eyes to actual matches. I love wrestling in general, but the most exciting form is traditional Senegalese. Wrestling with punches is just simply too amazing to pass up. Good news for fans of the sport. It's growing tremendously it seems, and a huge mega fight is coming up July 26 between Yekini and Gris Bordeaux. They'll get paid a combination of 140 million CFA(Senegal's currency). Google and Youtube them.
Every form of combat includes a couple strikes it's just based on the rules of their competitions, what's common to many ethnic groups around the world is that their competitions mainly have just pure grappling which forbids striking.
I tend to disagree no offense. I'm White and I train in MMA and most MMA fighters are just as well built as these men. Other races are just as equally strong, MMA fighters most of them are built the same way.

A few comments by the same person on here display ignorance of the cultural embodiment of training in Senegalese wrestling. An understanding of cultural/ritual combat would serve you well Tremills. There's more to grappling than Abu Dhabi or NAGA. Personally, I train in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, but I have no problem admitting that the UFC is not "as real as it gets." Reality is in the world outside the cage, not in it. While I enjoy watching MMA, it is not the final proving ground of combat.

@leer33 While a lot of their muscular physique is genetic dependent, you can still get a strong and balanced physique by simply wrestling and doing calesthenics......also keep in mind that they use eachother as weight loads to do common exercise lifts, for example throwing some body on your shoulders and squatting for reps.....you'd be surprised how many different exercises you can do utilizing a partner as dead weight,......your limited by your imagination.

It would only be bigotry if they thought about those rules and, rejected them because they were African. The likely story is that this type of wrestling isn't well known outside of Africa and, the Greco-Roman, Freestyle and, American Folkstyle rules are fine. Not to mention the submission grappling that is gaining in popularity. Throw into that Judo, BJJ, SAMBO and, there are enough styles to keep interest.
No one is stopping these folks from starting their own International tournaments.

I've been doing my research about African wrestling since Youtube has opened my eyes to actual matches. I love wrestling in general, but the most exciting form is traditional Senegalese. Wrestling with punches is just simply too amazing to pass up. Good news for fans of the sport. It's growing tremendously it seems, and a huge mega fight is coming up July 26 between Yekini and Gris Bordeaux. They'll get paid a combination of 140 million CFA(Senegal's currency). Google and Youtube them.
