This is the best tribute to him i have seen. Im in tears right now. Despite the fact im only 19, and have missed out on watching Bruce and the E Street Band grow into what they are today, I've still grown up with them. To me, the material they've produced, it gets to me no matter what mood im in. from "Racing in the Street" when I'm feeling crappy, to "Tenth avenue" when I'm not...it is all truly masterful. He will be missed. You cant break the ties that bind.
@twerpuser That is Clarence at MSG during the Band Of Brothers Tour, the color sections are from the show the black and white are from various times and places.... Please feel free to pass the url to all your friends...
Thank you all for the wonderful comments, they are all greatly appreciated... I just recivied my tickets for Bruce at the Meadowlands (floor) and for the Tuesday night show at MSG in NYC. Looking forward to the new album and to see how the shows are going to fall together without Clarence. This video is almost at 30,000 views, please feel free to share the link with any of the Bruce and ESB friends you may have... Thanks again...
Well, this man was and still is one of my biggest influences as a saxophone player myself. He gave such a love to people and to his music and will be sorely missed by fans and musicians accross the world, this is really a heartwarming tribute to him!!
To the poster of this video, THANK YOU. C continues to have a huge following. He'll be missed, but never forgotten. There is no bigger tribute to a life than the number of lives you have touched. He is the BIG MAN, forever.

I know a lot of people are going to hate this, but Clarence Clemons really wasnt a very good horn player. I play saxophone and listen to all sax players and have never been impressed at all with C. Clemons. If anybody is serious about saxophone they really should look elsewhere, other saxophonist REALLY out perform him in every aspect. If it wasn't for the Bruce's group, he would have never of been famous. Sorry to say so, but it really is true :(
@usetheforce207 I agree that C was not the greatest sax player. Just as Max Weinberg isn't Billy Cobbham... etc... It was his contribution to Bruce's music and all the wonderful monuments from the live shows that gave him such loving fans. Technique (as important as it is) will never trump creativity or playing even a single note that fits perfectly with the emotional content of the music. Thanks for the response...
@usetheforce207 Probably not the best, but to us who watch and listen to Bruce and the ESB , it's all in the melting pot that makes the band what it is. Clarence wouldn't even say he was the best. But together THEY are the best in the world to us. We are serious about our love fro the Big Man , HIS stage presence and charisma more than made up for his lack in your eyes of skill ! You are entitled to your opinion and I value it ! Cheers
@usetheforce207 Clarence probably not the greatest sax player in the world, however he's a part of the greatest bar band in the world. It's all in the mix, and you are entitled to your opinion. What he did was have style, charisma, and PRESENCE in abundance and something you most certainly do not have. humility ! Clarence has left us impressed with his playing, mediocre to you, but not to us fans he'll always be revered !
@usetheforce207 I dont give a fuck....I play guitar and Im raw...Clarence was cool, warts and all...sad person! Cant believe you said that.BIG thumbs down....
I wouldn't disagree with you. But I don't think his technical skills were the thrill or the reason. His presence and friendship with Bruce was the ticket. He helped make the show, I so loved to watch him - showmanship, excitement made him the best for this band, and we fans will miss him. RIP CC.
@usetheforce207 Who da F**k are u to say the big man was not a good sax player wat have u ever done wit your life apart from sat in your room listening to sax players u sad sad person
@usetheforce207 Well bless your heart. Player of the sax or not, it sounds to me as if you wouldn't know a meaningful sax solo if it kicked you in the face. My message is this: if you came to this video to "get serious" about the sax, the rest of us welcome you to the world of Clarence Clemons and we wish you well in your endeavors. If you just came to hear a great Bruce song, we welcome you, too."
@usetheforce207 Are you even human? This is not the place to disrespect Clarence Clemons' playing technique. Sounds pretty good to me on this solo. Take it down!!!
@MrKnicks234 of course i can play saxophone, im on my way to my jazz-rock combo right now. Come on you guys I didn't mean to be hateful, i was just expressing my opinion. If you compare him to other serious horn players, he falls short. Im more than sure he was a great showman and overall fantastic person, but in terms of sax playing he wasnt impressive
@usetheforce207 Yeah actually, he WAS impressive. Yeah his sax playing WAS impressive. He knew exactly how to play to the utmost of his ability and his style and technique fit perfectly.
You say you play jazz-rock, yes?
Well, news flash...jazz-rock isn't soulful, it's an entirely different genre.
Why not just admit that Springsteen's music is not your cup of tea instead of trying to compare wolves and tangerines?
@usetheforce207 CC introduced a generation to the sax. I would have thought you would have identified that contribution. Quality as you describe it is for the few. Most people cant even hear what you describe so for the majority your views are elitist, snide and irrelevant.
well lady gaga sucks. You think she knows a single thing about music or saxophone. Im pretty sure she also (or someone like her) used Kenny G in a song so what does that say
@usetheforce207 Clarence Clemons also was not a terrible player either.
He was the ideal sax player for Bruce's particular brand of rock and roll and I doubt many could provide the scorching soulful power or the charisma that "The Big Man" generated.
The notion that he does not fit your overly cerebral definition of technical prowess or virtuosity does not lessen the fact that Clarence Clemons contributed defining moments in rock that no one can duplicate in the same way.
@usetheforce207 Possibly true... but it could be said that if it wasn't for him "Bruce's group" wouldn't have been famous and Bruce himself will admit this. He changed that band and took them on the road to where they are now.
yes. he's gonna keep the band going for sure. it would be doing a dis-service to clarence if bruce just stopped the band. and that's not bruce's deal. he's in this til HE dies.
Still can't believe the big man has gone....what a life he had. Playing in the greatest backing band of all time, and playing the music of the incomparable Bruce Springsteen. So many memories, seeing the E Street Band 12 times since 1985 was an absolute joy every time.
THANK YOU BOSS !! FOR YOUR TRIBUTE TO THE BIG MAN !! GONE BUT NEVER FORGOTTEN !! PLAYING YOUR SAX IN HEAVEN WITH ALL THE GREATS !! U GOT YOUR PLACE WITH THE BIG BAND IN THE SKY BIG MAN I WILL ALWAYS LOVE YOU SEE YOU ONE DAY !! I HOPE YOU WILL PLAY YOUR SAX FOR ME THEN !!
Wow that was a great video. The intro to The River sounds like an emotion of longing.....longing - we all will be longing. Now that our Big Man has passed we will be longing for what we had. But as the video says smile because it happened. RIP Big Man - you and Danny are together again...Blood Brothers!
This is perfect! Such a great video! Thanks for making it!
My only regret in life is that i never got the see Bruce and the E Street Band play as i was unable to get tickets to see them at Glastonbury in 2009, being in England those chances don't come along that often. Now i'll never get to see the big man live :(
This was amazing. Beautiful. Lonely and sad. I wish I could reverse time and go back to 1984, when I first discovered these musical geniuses. As I sit here and type, the music of this video in the background, my heart breaks, Not only for the loss of the Big Man, but for the loss of the world we once lived in, not too long ago.....Rest in peace Big Man, you will forever be in our hearts. God Bless all of the E Street Nation!
cheers for this, very touching...seen the e-streeters a few times now and the Big Man always got the loudest cheers..when his solos came and went, the place would go crazy..God Bless Clarence
II remember a month or so after 911 I watched the Live In NY DVD just to cheer myself up. As I watched that, I wondered if we would ever get back to that kind of celebration.... When The Rising came out, the shows were just as good and in some ways better. I thought the same thing when I heard about C's passing... Would we ever get back to those wonderful moments? I think it will never be the same without The Big Man, but the music lives on, and we'll celebrate it again...
I am philadelphia raised, and anyone knows that the boss is an icon there, it took me until 2000 before i finally got a chance to see Bruce in concert....and by all means i love the boss and his music...it's so blue collar...but the biggest highlight of that show in Kansas City was being able to see the BIG MAN.......i cannot think of bruce without thinking of CC......Rest in Peace Clarence....you will forever be a part of my life and history
seen the e street a couple of times in england the best band as a unit i have ever seen ! i watched nils in shrewsbury when clarence was ill and then a few days later he left us ! god bless clarence clemons and danny federici
