I'm a Brazilian living in Canada and I tend to be more sympathetic towards American Democrats. And I agree with them when some of them say that president Obama lost a great opportunity to rally the American population into supporting the programs and reforms that America really needs, while at the same time listening to their concerns. When JFK spoke of lowering taxes, the top rate was around 90%. That is a far cry from what is now proposed... to let the tax cuts on the top earners to go back to what they were when we ran a surplus. This is a 5% difference and still well under a 40% marginal tax on net taxable income. Mind you this is taxable income not gross income. Still plenty of room for loopholes and tax shelters that the average working joe does not get to claim.
I think with 76 million registered Democrats and only 55 million registered Republicans with a Tea Party dividing their vote. With 81% of hispanics voting Democratic. 94% of African Americans voting Democratic. With 87% of gays and lesbians voting Democratic. I never said high income earners should be capped. They should not be capped at all but should pay SS and Medicare on 100% of their income just like us.
Checks should be higher for them and us. Also, when a millionaire uses Medicare or when we use Medicare, maybe the RICH millionaire who only pas 10% of Medicare taxes where we pay 100%, should be capped on his hospital bill at 10% and he can pay the rest? If they have a $100,000 bill, make them pay $90,000,since they only pay 10% medicare

I'm a Brazilian living in Canada and I tend to be more sympathetic towards American Democrats. And I agree with them when some of them say that president Obama lost a great opportunity to rally the American population into supporting the programs and reforms that America really needs, while at the same time listening to their concerns. He promised power to the people and then refrained from delivering on his promise.

Stimulus money should have gone into programs that would eventually pay back like infrastructure investments but those were pooh poohed by the right saying that it would take too long to get started. Everyone wanted "shovel ready" projects which precluded any long term thinking.

@2010GOP: Both sides of the aisle have much to be ashamed of when it comes to poorly spent tax money. If we were to remove all of the graft, we'd have a balanced budget. But cutting taxes and carte blanche reduction of government is not the answer. Yes, the red tape that business shoulders is stupid, but oversight and rules have to remain in some form. I agree that much of government is broken and it largely is due to moneyed interests getting too much face time with our representatives.

@2010GOP: Maddow does in fact air the polling data... but polling data in July is hardly indicative of election results in November. The money will be spent at the appropriate time and the polling numbers will change.

When JFK spoke of lowering taxes, the top rate was around 90%. That is a far cry from what is now proposed... to let the tax cuts on the top earners to go back to what they were when we ran a surplus. This is a 5% difference and still well under a 40% marginal tax on net taxable income. Mind you this is taxable income not gross income. Still plenty of room for loopholes and tax shelters that the average working joe does not get to claim.

I never said high income earners should be capped. They should not be capped at all but should pay SS and Medicare on 100% of their income just like us.
Checks should be higher for them and us. Also, when a millionaire uses Medicare or when we use Medicare, maybe the RICH millionaire who only pas 10% of Medicare taxes where we pay 100%, should be capped on his hospital bill at 10% and he can pay the rest? If they have a $100,000 bill, make them pay $90,000,since they only pay 10% medicare

5th time: Contributions to Soc Security by the "wealthy" are capped because the benefits they'll receive at retirement is also "capped". Soc Security was designed as a mandated personal retirement savings.
