Thanks Dave, I will try with these smaller pipes now that I have them in arrangment. As for the current, it needs to be inhibited by a few other things yet to be added to the circuit. I am still working out what the VIC should be made of.
from what i know i would expect that the current will drop dramatically when you are properly reasonant. At the same time gas output will go up lots! A rule of thumb is 1/10 of the out of tune state or DC state. This is akin to the old plate and load of powerful SW transmitters. I have an idea your tubes are too small to get any decent capacitance on them though. Need least 9 inch tubes before it will "sing".
Have you conditioned your tubes? Many are reporting that they do not get great production at first. You have to condtion the cell and as you do so, your production goes up.

have you tried to use a small capacitor with your inductor so it becomes an oscillating tank circuit?
