Hey, an American on the panel. Maybe he'll stand up for his countrymen and not stoop to stereotypes. Oh... Maybe he knows what the British audience wants to hear.
Comedians who want to keep their jobs have to give the crowds what they want. I understand that. I just wish he wouldn't have joined in to the extent he did.
I think the necessary thing to realize is that these guys on MTW are mocking the American Stereotype. I think we can all agree that not every American is as ignorant or offensive as they make us out to be, but at the same time there is an inordinate amount of Americans that really are that way. It's a sad fact that is perpetuating the negative connotations the rest of the world has with Americans. But I don't hold any resentment towards what these guys are saying because I know it's satire.
@cewolfen however i watch a LOT of series... it's just a surprise to me that someone knows about SNI and also watches MTW!!! Tell me. do you know any other series that you watch that are completely different from SNI or MTW? like anime? or other stuff?
My God, that was so subtle. I mean, I barely even caught onto that extremely small number of vague, hinting comments made by the panel about America / Americans being:
- racist
- stupid
- incestuous
- racist
- insular
- undemocratic
- racist
- a worse country to live in than Hati
That's the trouble with British humor. It's very easy to miss these sorts of well hidden jokes.
@KungfuCow5 Yes, everyone in the world....except for all those people in the world who are trying to get INTO America in order to have a better life than they can in their home country (in asia, africa, the middle east, south america, europe, etc). But maybe you're right...maybe they want to live in a country full of overweight racist inbred hicks? (The same racist inbred hicks that voted for Obama?).
You were right about my spelling of Haiti, however. Thanks.
@richard20bris No the racist hicks who accuse Obama of being a 'Nazi socialist', a Muslim fundamentalist and a 'baby-killer'. Without realising that 'Nazi socialist' is a complete contradiction in terms.
You know, the last few seconds brought up a good point.
Forevermore, no one can be named Adolf. Or Hitler. Nor can they have a Hitler mustache. So not only did he ravage Europe, kill millions, nearly exterminate the Jews, and cause all-out terror, he's also stolen two names and a facial hair style.
@AndPlus No, I think Dara's point was more to do with the public who vote these people in. As 300 years ago, in America or Uk or anywhere else in the West for that matter; a man of ethnic minority to become the leader of the country was unthinkable. And the same for education, as in those time electing a man who wasn't from the highest of the most respected university didn't happen. Dara's point was that while the stereotype of American's is that they're racist and backward (Which is totally un
@HenceAndOtherwise well there weren't really many ethnic minority people in the UK 300 years ago. britain was still 99% white british during world war 2, and most that 1% only came to England because of the expansion of the British empire in the 1800's.
With that said, benjamin disraeli was the first jewish-born prime minister in the 1800's, and he was even mocked by antisemites in parliament for it. So maybe we just overestimate how much racism affects an election.
@pimasta314 Yeah, everyone here knows that all American's aren't necessarily redneck, and that most American's aren't stupid or fat or lazy or redneck or racist... but this is a comedy show, y'know, and that just wouldn't be funny. :)
Why do other countries cover our news but we can't hear about foreign politics unless something's gone horribly wrong? I vote for an American comedy show that talks about foreign politics.
@UnlabledLabler That'd be cool, except we've got 200+ other countries to choose from. A good chunk of "foreign news" in other countries covers just the US.
@manumad27 you mean september the eleventh 1971, the day america just bombed the capital of chile for no reason, invaded, bombed some civilian areas, make some tortu- i mean itnerrogation camps for civilians? Yeah. Ironic, isn't it. Not really

I wish I could say that the stereotyping of Americans in this clip wasn't true, but I don't live in the areas of the country where it is absolutely true.
I'm American, and I think this is hilarious! However, when I was in Europe, a ton of Europeans told me that America was a country full of racists (even though a black president won by a landslide victory). I think they get this from our history, and from TV and movies about race relations (like Crash), which are really huge exaggerations to teach a lesson, and isn't what America is like. I'm not saying we don't have racists, but it's a lot less than what Europeans think.
lots of deep conversation here folks, props for that, however you are forgetting that you are posting comments, and nobody gives a fuck about those :D
and there aren't a lot of black comedians because?....Look, i'm not trying to call the show racist or anything, and I certainly don't think the should be cowtowing to policial correctness, I just think its worth it to point out how annoying that arrogance is that they're demonstrating, but also how common. Seriously, i do watch a lot of British television, and while I truly enjoy it, I find it disturbing how hypocritical a lot of the criticisms are against America.
What's really amusing is the idea that an entire country has been so selfless as to take it upon themselves to elaborately research and deliver jokes relating to the flaws of certain political leaders of another country and use those flaws to make sweeping generalizations about said country...(cont'd)
...which happens to be more than 5 times larger than the former country and reflects a wider diversity of thought and opinion than the small-minded comedians would like to admit, because that would make them shallow and just as guilty of leaping at media-driven conclusions as the illiterate, sister-humping red-necks it is their solemn but honored duty to exaggerate.
self deprecation?....is that what you call it when someone refuses to be ashamed of the country they happened to be born in, but don't really see much of a problem with living in despite certain people's efforts to portray all americans as idiots; an image taken, no less, from "all the bloody media"? You're just proving my point here, dude.
It's a comedy show that takes the piss out of politicians and celebrities and themselves and you whinge about the few minutes where they have a go at Yanks. pmsl!
"There aren't many black people in Britain? That's the biggest pile of shit I've ever read. |: "
It's quite true. Granted, there are some areas where there are a lot of lack people, but there are also vast swathes of the country with hardly any black people at all.
When my mother's family came here there were only a handful of other black families in the entire city.
I guess you live in london (or another country) so you haven't experienced that. Visit some small towns in farming counties.
Haha, I'm afraid you have made me feel rather inferior. (Oops?) I think I may need to get my facts straight first. I am rather a first class failure, but I do believe that there is an increasing rate of black people in England at the moment, so maybe we shall see a rise in black farmers soon. :-)
you dont even have to go to a farm to see your right, places like salford, in Manchester, its very rare you see a black person, in somewhere like moss side, its filled with black people.
so i see where your coming from :) im also assuming you know the places im talking about
The school I went to had over a thousand pupils, and only two others were black. And yes, they were both my relatives.
It's probably hard to imagine if you live somewhere with a large black population, but if you look at the statistics from the census office you'll see that those areas are the exception rather than the rule.
I think its interesting that a lot of the jokes in this center around how racist Americans are.......but all of the panelists are white guys, not even just in this clip. Don't get me wrong, i think this show is funny (sometimes), and I really do appreciate British humor, but I do really get bothered watching this sometimes at the arrogance these guys demonstrate which they then project on their easiest target (America).
@AutumnDevi I don't think you've quite grasped the right end of the stick here, these guys frequently take the piss out of Britain aswell, have you heard Frankie Boyle talk about Scotland?! The news happened to have landed on the american elections and so that's what they mocked, it's called frickin' Mock the Week! They rip british politicians and culture all the time! It's what we do! Plus the show gets plenty of black comedians so really they're not in any way prejudiced!
@gruntguy007 Wouldn't it be more sensible to say that you can't FORCE black people to be comedians. Or to go onto the show. It's their choice, but Frankie Boyle didn't really help. (Even though he's really offensive, I still love him)
The last comment made was quite good. Why is it that the British report American news as though it's their own. Listen to almost any English reporter or celebrity for long enough and they have an opinion on almost every major American news story at the time. But talk to any American of the like and they have almost no clue about anything from the U.K. except the Sex Pistols and Monty Python.
It's fairly worldwide, sadly. It's a matter of media saturation. The rest of us see more American media, more American news, more American movies. It seeps into all pop culture.

mimibeamie89 2 years ago 7
@AutumnDevi So not having a black person eveyr week is racist. WTF Its not hating against them. But there are black people on it
gruntguy007 1 year ago
@gruntguy007 Wouldn't it be more sensible to say that you can't FORCE black people to be comedians. Or to go onto the show. It's their choice, but Frankie Boyle didn't really help. (Even though he's really offensive, I still love him)

The last comment made was quite good. Why is it that the British report American news as though it's their own. Listen to almost any English reporter or celebrity for long enough and they have an opinion on almost every major American news story at the time. But talk to any American of the like and they have almost no clue about anything from the U.K. except the Sex Pistols and Monty Python.

Americans generally don't bother themselves with things happening outside their own state, let alone the entire country.

Its because Americans do so many retarded funny things. We are pretty boring in the UK.

It's fairly worldwide, sadly. It's a matter of media saturation. The rest of us see more American media, more American news, more American movies. It seeps into all pop culture.

Aye to that.

it's simple - english news - is shit!

When criticising others, try to use some capital letters. It makes you look silly when you can't.
