@TheNeverEndingGame And why when Michael had his last race with Ferrari in '06 in Brazil before retiring the first time, Hakkinen flew to Sao Paulo to join Ferrari in celebrating Schumacher's F1 career and to play tennis with Michael at a venue outside Monte Carlo and Geneva where they usually play together.
@InuKun2008 He meant great rivals on the track not rivals in the life. Dont jump on the dude, he is right Schumacher mentioned before in many interviews that his favourite on-track rival was Hakkinen.
Wow, thank you so much for posting! I totally forgot WHY exactly F1 fascinated me so much back then. This clip made me remembering it all. The machines from this era were so intimidating and brutal, yet so delicate and razor-sharp. This qualifying battle may well be considered the true climax of the rivalry between these two titans; anyone watching would understand what the Hakkinen-Schumacher fight was all about and how legendary it truely is. Thank you so much - again.
Damm.Look at Schumacher's car moves at 0:10.I mean we really should feel thankful for having the priviledge to watch this man's masterpieces.Miss the classic battle between these 2 legends of the sport.
Suzuka is such beautiful circuit. Whoever designed it certainly had formula 1 in mind. The circuit just flows so well with its high speed corners. The newer circuits of today like Abu Dhabi, Indonesia, China, etc. are so pathetic with their excessive low speed and unoriginal corners.
Indonesia? There are not Indonesia in F1 racing calendar. You mean Singapore? But yes, I have allways hated that damn Shanghai International Circuit, it's just as crap as crap can be, so is Abu Dhabi...
Still that track sucks too, glad they change it littlebit for this years race, though I don't think it will be any better... But my fav tracks are Monaco, Circuit Gilles Villeneuve (Montreal), Suzuka and Spa. And from those Spa and CGV in F1 2010 is just, well. They are really nice to drive in it....
@finch9899 It's because of the new systems like KERS. The cars on this video are much more powerful than today's car when it comes to pure power of the engine. The two cars of McLaren and Ferrari here are among the best cars in the history. Don't give me Vettel times here because it's pointless. Today the driver is not so important anymore because the cars are full with some BS. One the video we talk about pure driver class not only talking about the tires like today with Vettel and Hamilton
@Slu4ainika I quoted Vettel's time because it shows AlexCluster's statement is incorrect, so it's not pointless, and I didn't claim these were bad cars because they're not. Today's cars are faster primarily as a result of advances in aerodynamics and tyres, KERS is only worth half a second per lap at the best of times and the engine in Schumacher's car here is putting out about 780bhp, very similar to today's engines which have been homologated since the end of 2006.
todays drivers are never faster then before. To drive these cars needs much skill then todays bobby cars. In the past they were driving with much more trottle and steering skills!
First corner at Suzuka is just astonishing.. Amazing performance and sounds from both cars. Way better timing graphics than this all we have today. F1 is going bad way..
Without the at least some of the rules, the richest team would win EVERY time! Sound quite boring to me!
And you have to look hard in the history books to find 5 seasons in a row, that have been so close as the last 5!
However, the cars could look a lot better! The rear wings are hideous!
Also new engine rules are welcome! Going back to smaller turbocharged-engines would be in the spirit of whats happening in the roadcar industry in which new tech invented in F1 could be used!

These two were in a league of their own in the race: Hakkinen just 1.8sec behind MS, both were over 1 minute ahead of Coulthard and Barrichello.

shame that backmarker ruined Hakkinen's last run, but what an epic battle, especially the sounds :D

It actually started off as a motorcycle racing circuit. That's why it's awfully narrow, even compared to the other old circuits on the F1 calendar.
New circuits should just be knocked over and replaced with a parking lot. That's all they are with their mile long runoff areas, anyway.

Proves how much faster todays drivers really are.
luckbox360 6 months ago
@luckbox360
That doesn't make a difference. The aerodynamics are the greaest difference since 2000 and 2010-2011.
Ayrton Senna, the greatest of all time, would easily beat Vettel, Alonso, Mika Hakkinen, and even Michael Schumacher for pole position.
Still, the 2000 Michael Schumacher is better than 2010 Alonso or Vettel by miles given his season with Ferrari.
