  • what is the name of the book, i want to buy one.

  • I(ts very nice for making cordial and wine. Delicious !

  • I made Elderberry jelly for the first time this year and it was actually very easy to strain the berries and get pure juice. No seeds to get stuck in your teeth :-)

  • superb vid, really well done, thanks

  • dude , it realy tastes better than you let on. i would eat it all the time.

  • they taste great

  • dude i love you i cant tell you how many times i have walked past these plants and never even knew what they were i wondered what elderberries were after reading the ingredients to a smoothie i bought at the gas station i love these berries many say they are very sour i think they are a little more sweet then sour i love them thanks man :)

  • I eat these things all the time whenever I camping and fishing. They're usually fine to eat if you're a normal healthy adult.

  • hey i got that book too. lots of good plants in there.

  • I like how you put this video together with the plant and the book and the way you talked. Good job.

  • This is a very beneficial medicinal herb - the berries will kill a virus. A virus cell has spikes that inject other cells to spread the virus. What elderberry does is basically shaves the spikes off of the virus cell so it cannot spread thus eliminating the virus from your body. Unlike echinacea, you can take elderberry at the onset of symptoms. I've been using elderberry to treat flu and other virus-based ailments for a great many years - it's very effective.

  • how do you do that? do you just eat the berries or prepare it somehow?

  • Nice comment

  • ive been eating those berries for as long as i can rmember we have a bush or tree or whatever you want to call it growing in the same spot each year 1 year my mom made a pie i dident like it verry much due to the large amount of seeds but i like just eating the barries

  • you can my dad made dandilion wine and said it was good and potent so if you can do it with dandilion you should be able to do it with those

  • I used to work for a wilderness therapy program and in late july I gathered elderberries to make jam.

I just mashed and heated the berries in a little stow-away pot, I just started to heat some berries up with some honey, kept stirring them until it was a good consistency jam and then had PB&J's with it.

I let a youth in the program taste some of the jam that I made, (he was from Scotland) and he freaked out, he was yelling "it TASTES just like PROPER jam!"

  • haha, great story!

  • Ooh, elderflower cordial..yum!

  • OMG DUDE... i used to live in ohio and we had this red berry and like if you mush them on the sidewalk and wait for it to rain it like makes purple temperary ink. and it was red i think it was elderberries but my mom said dont eat them.... when it was winter we would throw em at stopsighs and have like them stuck on it in the winter it gets all mushy.... can you help me difine the berries because im not sure .... i think they look like elderberries but it was like 3 years ago so ummmm

  • Years ago my husband picked them in VT. We attempted to make jelly but didn't use enough pectin and/or sugar so it didn't gel properly. What we did end up with though was a very nice pancake syrup. At the time we thought we should really market elderberry pancake syrup. Later we saw some on grocery store shelves. Someone beat us to it!

  • my mother makes wine of them!

  • cool, yeah I hav seen recipes for elderberry wine and dandelion wine, haah they go way back...

  • am i making this up or can you make wine out of these, cos i got these growing in my back yard and i want to experiment with them!

  • I love how you've gotten into wilderness surival stuff (even though i love your vids on knifes) have you read the U.S army survival guide FM 21-76? It's one of my favs as survival books go or the S.A.S survival guide is good 2.

  • Do you mind me asking what book you use as a reference tool?

You know, you can also use berries like those to make paints, just ggetting that out there, primitive but it works!

Also, I've watched many of your videos, you explain in detail and it is very enjoyable to watch your videos. And because of you, I got the lansky crock stick sharpener, damn, you're gonna make me go broke! ;)
