  • that's really great, but she really does wrap her leg while in a backspin position in the air, and that is definitely not good and almost impossible to correct what with how far she is in her career.

  • how old was she? that is awesome!

  • Hold on, shouldn't that be a world record?! I mean, of all the skating jumps out there, axels are the most difficult ones. WOW...

  • This is OTT!!

  • would 21 be to old to star figure skating

  • @guitartorch If your looking to get into the olympics proberly ! but otherwise nope there are like85 yr olds skating

  • all i can see is a giant banana with legs, thank you 240p

  • Wow! I just wished she didn't had that wild leg.... but it's AMAZING

  • She was already gifted at 11 age !

  • actually 11

  • I often wonder whether Midori wrapped her leg in order to rotate slowly. Her coach said that she did not teach Midori how to jump as Midori was able to jump from the Day One. She basically helped Midori to improve jumps. One of the things the coach told Midori was to start rotating after she went high in the air. The coach believed that it would stabilize the jumps. In any case, most female skaters can not complete the rotation if they rotate slowly like Midori.

  • @kh3205

Probably. With that much height she would be able to complete the jump easily.

  • Her axels are so unique (: I love how her legs bend,

  • it so ugly.. i like axel with legs together... not 90 degree leg.

  • @ChariceBillboard yeah... and you can do all she did right? you just don to it'cause its ugly...please dont be disrespectful....

  • @ChariceBillboard Tell everyone else that, don't hate because she made something of herself.

  • @ChariceBillboard it was a different time back then, they were supposed to do a "90 degree leg" and plus you do ten double axels in a row and then tell me how easy it is

  • Well then y don't u try to do it stupid chick

  • @fartlumpsjr Accually, I can do one, I'm working on a triple toe..

  • Comment removed

  • @SkateboarderChick27 Oh! I know triple toe is much easier than double axel ;D

  • @MrReferees Hahah I suck @ 2 and 3Toes

  • She does really bad double axels, she manages to land them, but she needs to keep her freeleg down, right now they look bad

  • @SkateboarderChick27 This is Not competition or exhibition BUT her additional performance after exhibition, you know? Moreover, She was only 11 years old. Can't you imagine how it is ?

  • SHE MAKES IT LOOK SO EASY! DAMNNNNN!!!!

  • She needs to keep her freeleg down

  • she has horrible double axels

  • I think she's 13

  • wow .... people in this day and age frequently screw up their double axel double axel sequence!

  • You know, I wish someone would get out there and perform a beautiful piece of figure skating to Rush's YYZ or Ozzy's Crazy Train.

  • Great, now I'm dizzy. LOL

  • and she was like 9 WOW!!!!!!!!!!!

  • holy.shit.

  • MY favorite figure skater who i look up to

  • She is just amazing. I would fall on the fifth because i'd get so dizzy. That's the next jump i'm learning

  • amagine 10 triple axels in a row :o

  • Wow! Thats amazing

    Lol

It made me so dizzy watching her!

  • She's a skating machine!!

  • holy crap! that looked like even more than 10..... but i wasn't really counting so i wouldn't know :P

  • dang that woman could jump!

  • I love this - a lot of people complain about her leg position in the air but I love to watch her jump - I find no fault with anything about her technique - She hasn't piled up the 6s that Kwan and Yagudin did but she's got the record for 6s for athleticism - AMAZING AMAZING AMAZING

  • O_O

    wow...just....WOW!

  • Kids at this age have no fear....they can do amazing shit like this....and over all she's a fantastic skater!

  • I'm gonna try this with my single Axel and see if I can do it- doubtful. It took me 15 months to land my Axel, but part of that I was concentrating on field moves and not jumps.

  • she has a wrap but sh is good

  • wow giantaxel... just wow are you dumb? those are most definately doubles

  • Amazing double axel sequence, but she has a wrap....

  • I just LOVE this - its so cute - double axel is my favorite jump - powerful enough that its exciting but not so fast that you can't see it.

  • holy cow!!! that was incredible!

  • Wowly!!!! Fantastic!!!

  • Sick! Amazing.. I cant find words for this.. Good Job..!!!!!

  • What an amazing girl. :)

  • she doesn't even need to rotate fast to get the rotations.

  • why is it tht when higher up skaters do lower jumps they wrap them

  • woah that was wierd! thats so hard to do! like i tried to do that with singles and i got up to 12 then fell! lol good times...

  • How long did it take you to learn the single axel and how often were you practicing? I'm kinda desperate right now... lol

  • @moietmavieana

well, dont take this the wrong way but it took me a year to learn single axel. but hay! my sis learned it in 4 months! so keep ur hope!

one thing to remember is to snap when u get into the air. keep ur legs in and as soon as u feel the ice, release and check out (land)

    good luck and best wishes!

  • wraps leg too high

  • lol shes great. i know i would fall on by the third one lol. amazing.good job!!!

  • i thought all in a row which means all together. but that was amazing

  • They were all in a row... You can't do combinations with the Axel, it's not a loop or a toe loop... So there has to be a little transition between two jumps...

  • gracious heavens that was amazing!

  • huge height.

i hope i can get mine that good.

  • WOAH ! omgosh ! AMAZING !!!!

  • wow that was so beatiful

  • awesome, but however her position is a little bit crouched! But anyways still i can't do that, I am working on my double axel though :P

  • @emilylte count again.

  • She must have some strong legs lol

  • nope, those are all doubles.

  • not sure what you're seeing, but they're doubles. The female commentator even says "double axel" at the beginning. Count the rotations, there are 2.5, hence a double Axel. That's all I have to say.

  • yea they r all double axels

  • @giantaxel They look like singles cuz they're so effortless, if you count... they're all doubles

  • OMG !!!!!!

  • how old is she in this video?

  • She does the double Axel so effortlessly it looks as though she's doing single Axels!! Amazing stamina!

  • I think thats just plain amazing

  • holy crapaaa.

  • Unbelievable! Great Midori!

  • Very good and very soft! :o) Anuradha from Finland.

  • if she got rid of the wrap, she coulda been doing triple with that height

  • look her triple axel!! with tha height she could been doing a quad!

  • she probably go kinda dizzy!!

    really good

  • omg............SHE IS AMAZING!!!!!

  • She's amazing!

  • wow and i think its hard to do 3 SINGlE axels in a row...this is amazing! shes only like wat 9?

  • her foot is wraped when she does her double axel but it still is pretty amazing dat she could do that. oh and try doing it without going forward and pushing back just land the double axel the jump up to another double axel. that gets you more consitant of it. :p good job

  • It's all symantics at the end of the day, what she did was amazing and she and got even better with time and maturity. She, Kristi, Dorothy, and Peggy are the epitome of classiness and talent to me. My favorite skaters from the old school.

  • Damn, it would be literally impossible for one to do 10 double axels in a row. Imagine how one could be incredibly tired after doing twice as much triple axels in one program. This girl, Midori Ito is almost literally superhuman!

  • It would look better and may smoothe out the revolutions, but if you look back to skaters from the early 80s and into the 70s, you'd see the wrapped leg issue more previdently. Denise Bielmann had a bit of a wrap, as well as Kitty Carruthers and Tai Babilo(ie throw double Axel). It seemed to have been a technique taught in the past.

  • What's your point? Midori never worried about being "pretty". She worried about her jumps.....and yes, the wrap is somewhat unatractive, but who cares! Her jumps were HUGE.

  • wow

  • How old is she in this video?

  • I believe 9 or 10, but not exactly sure.

  • Shes a Robot!! thats crazy! how old is she?

  • With a nice leg position, I would love to have seen her try a quad axel. haha :D

  • how old was she then?10??omg!!tat was juz..magnificant!!

  • how old is she? well, she can regain her speed by using that three turn, so i think that is cheating to say 10 axels in a row, but WOW!

  • O........M.............GGGGG!!!!

  • Wierd, hight warp.

  • how old was she here??

  • I'm not exactly sure, but I'm guessing 8-10.

  • WHAT!!!!!!!!! THATS CRAZY!!!

  • WOAH! i'm still working on one double axel lol

  • SHE IS THE QUEEN OF THE AXEL JUMP

  • they look like single axels

  • only the best!=D

  • that would be gorgeous if she'd straighten her other leg :(

  • BAH! get over yourself. I can't believe losers are so picky that they criticize a wrapped free leg. It doesn't exactly HELP the skater does it, slows the rotation, so if they are able to complete the jump despite that then all the more power too them. Midori's double axels look as easy as singles, not like Kostner (who I love) and Lipinski who don't even have a proper takeoff.

  • I Completely Agree! Midori Could Do Even A 3Axel With A Bad Wrap, A Clear Demonstration Of Power! Im Also A Carolina Fan =] But Yh, Her 2Axel Is Very Small..

  • holy crap

  • Eh, She deserved to be known as the Queen of axel....after Tonya Harding.....

  • "Eh, She deserved to be known as the Queen of axel....after Tonya Harding..... "

what? AFTER tonya harding? she comes before tonya harding in athleticism, talent, and grace. Midori Ito is the queen of the axel, not tonya harding.

  • thats really impressive but her leg position in the air is horrible! if she doesn't correct it soon it could get really bad.

  • this was taped in the early 80's and she's since retired. No need to worry about her technique. ;)

  • lol

  • See my post above, only losers would comment on her leg position. The women has the best triple axel in ladies figure skating history. When you can pull a triple axel out of your repertoire, than you can nitpick over wrapped free legs.

  • Hey now, no need to be calling anyone a loser. Her free leg *is* wrapped. It worked ok for her, but people are just stating their own personal opinions--just like you, k?

  • Hahaha... imagine that she started doing TRIPLE axels afterwards. Yeah, she's long since retired. Her last World Championships was in 1996. Her leg position was always pretty bad, but she always got the rotation.

  • yea. if she got a good leg position then you could only imagine wat she could do!!!

  • my leg position is kinda that way... but, it doesn't really matter. she's a teriffic skater no matter what! :D

  • yea, but u should try to correct it cause it looks prettier

  • yes, i really should. i will eventually lol :D

  • haha. i've never had a wraping problem (thank god!) lol. but i've heard it's really hard to correct

  • it kind of is, but i gguess i'll have to try! lol i should have fun with that

  • haha yea

  • amazing:)

  • whoa, how does she do that?
