  • Those are ROMs, depending on the ROM you want you need the zip files for it.

If you install Cyanogenmod you need the ROM + GApps, while some other ROMs already have Gapps included so they are just 1

  • @mastermind278 I successfully rooted and installed the ROM, however I cannot seemed to find an undamaged version of gapps. Every version I downloaded from CM was damaged and would not install. Any suggestions?

  • wait , so where did u get the 4 files from ?

  • hey bro i m noob at this but i wana ask that ..i hav motorola cliq xt and its android 1.5 and if i wany to upgrade android version 1.5 to 2.1 then i will hav to rooot first and then install it ..plz tell me ....no application work on android 1.5

  • @fparam Follow my video on how to root and then you can install a custom ROM and have Android 2.37

  • @mastermind278 already did broo thx aa ton...juss one questionn is theere any better latest rom available for cliqxt newr one???????

  • @fparam For the latest ROM check out the CyanogenMod website.

  • @mastermind278 thx once again mann u r geniuss..

  • THANK YOU! :D

  • do i lose all my contacts, accounts, pictures, apps, etc, if i root the phone and custom recovery? and if i update to 2.3, will i lose my files too and won't b able to sign into motoblur?

  • @mastermind278 are you able to use your rooted motorola cliq xt w/ cyanogen mod 7 and gingerbread as a wifi hotspot? or using the app wifi tether for root users? please let me know. anyone else let me know.

  • @charmedchchi I have the same problem, I installed the android 2.3.3 just to have the wifi hotspot option, but it´s not there like in other android 2.3 smartphones that I have seen.. Any solution, or application to use the hotspot option?? Tnanks

  • @noproblems80 see i specifically wanted to use quick settings by sergey s..i had used it on my moms lg optimus v and it was fantastic. so while i continued to explore my phone...just recently i found under settings-profiles- (click on any profile) but i chose default-portable wifi hotspot (check box it) and tap the on that menu option. you should see a pop up and click enable. but now when i went back to quick settings it still gives me error... i want hotspot instead of using wifi tether apk

  • @noproblems80 i tried going under wireless & ntwrks - tethering...but no new menu option

  • @charmedchchi It seems that the rom android 2.3 by cyanoigen 7 made for Mororola Cliq and Motorola Quench just doesn't bring the hotspot option. But using the application wireless theter I can tell you I'm quite satisfied now, considering I can navigate at 7megas..! More than the 3megas adsl connection that I had until last week. I,m only using the android connection now, so it,s good.

  • mastermind278 can you please tell me that where can i get that mod for screen blurrness which is developed by you! along with that when I am pressing the "volume down key" the is somewhat kind of an error " in a triangle it shows an exclamation mark along with phone at the base of the triangle" can you please clarify what does that mean?

  • Is it possible to uninstall back to the original 1.5 if ever I regret updating?

  • hey there please please reply i have rooted this device & also have downloaded everything it says i have the app that confirmed its rooted but every time i try to go into recovery it gives me the explanation point PLEASE REPLY

  • @BrownBoyDuty If you have the SuperUser (ninja looking icon) then you have root. if you are having issues with ROOT try downloading 1-click Recovery Flasher by ADLX from the Market: market.android.com/details?id=com.adlx.recoveryflasher

  • @mastermind278

yea thanx i watched some of your other vids last night and succsesfully got gingerbread on my cliq THAANK YOU

  • @EmaggniyLehT I installed a custom recovery on this video. Nonetheless, you need root first which you can follow this video of mine: youtube.com/watch?v=ih-HRMxNuCk

You can more easily install a custom recovery via 1-Click Recovery from Adlx:

    market.android.com/details?id=com.adlx.recoveryflasher

So just follow my video for root and you don't have the #2 File... you can just download the file from Adlx on the market and have it install the custom recovery.

  • @EmaggniyLehT As long as it's a CliqXT/Quench it will work. There are 3 GB roms for the XT: CM 7.1, SuperOSR and Proyect AOSP. All run pretty well and are quite stable. For more information go to ModMyMobile and read the threads!

  • how would i uninstall a ROM?

  • @ANTK1LL3R444 Install another ROM via Recovery.... If you want to go to complete stock and loose Root and go back to Android 1.5 use RSDLIte it is on ModMyMobile

  • Anyone has good suggestions on how to save battery? The ROM is good, but the battery is dying really fast. "Phone idle" is taking a lot of battery usage, not sure why???

  • @tianye22 Phone IDLE is a good thing. Means you are not using the phone and that would be using most of the battery, idle not in use.

This phone is already a few years old so batteries might start getting old and not charge as good. Also you can try this first:

    1. Boot into Recovery (Power + Camera).

    2. Wipe Battery Stats (Don't choose the other ones or you will delete your data)

    3. Let the battery fully discharge.

    4. Let it charge Completely! Then use normally.

  • @mastermind278 Thanks a lot for your reply! I will definitely give it a try. Just feeling the battery went off really fast comparing to the original android 1.5 os. I turned off "backenground data" and "auto sync", also installed "startup killer" to prevent some customer and sys app to start automatically...

  • Hi @mastermind278, thanks a lot for the video, I tried my quench (in Canda) with the ROM, everything works fine, except that "Market" keeps crashing. And when it does not crash, the "start downloading" hangs, untill I reboot my machine, and it then starts downloading. I am not sure if anyone else hit this problem? I am using the latest nightly build ROM from Cyanogen. And If I understand correclty, I don't really need the "groovyG." and your "BBBlur" rom, right? Thanks a lot!

  • @tianye22 I googled it for a while and then came across the solution (can't remember where I got it, though, or I would link it).

Settings > Language & keyboard > Language > English (US). Select it again if that was already the selected language.

After that, it worked normally for me.

Hope this helps out some people.

  • How can i get groovyG

  • @kang5918 ModMyMobile has it.

  • @mastermind278

I had 3 files, except groovyG....(what is exectly spell?) Thank you

  • @kang5918 It's on ModMyMobile look at the CliqXT ROM forums.

  • @mastermind278

    Thank you, I will try

  • Do i need usb debbuging activated before installing gingerbread?

  • @pogo8815 You need Root first which would you require to have USB Debugging...

  • i was thinking about throwing my phone away now i brag about it LOL

  • Worked wonderfully after a long, persistingly oposing trial of errors that probably would only happen to me, I've managed to get everything working.

To everyone having a hard time! Just keep trying! It's really worth it!

  • @mastermind278 now I have an other question to do this the only thing I have to do is follow your video intructions right.. thank for your answer

  • @mastermind278 thank for the information I will try to do it.

  • hey I have a question if a have a android unlocked if Installing a ROM like this I lose de unlocked cell phone or no??

  • @TheRazp92 This will not get rid of the Network Unlock (ability to use on any cell provider).

  • i have basically blurless on my cliq xt, do i need to flash it back to stock in order to install cyanogen?

  • @tevinjg91 Nope just go into recovery, run WIPE ALL and just flash the files.

  • @mastermind278 thanx, i got everything running smooth.

  • @mastermind278 I am currently running basically blurless. Which is better cyanogenmod or basically blurless performance wise?

  • Hello Mastermind 278, I just follow your 2 videos and I was able to root and the install cm_zeppelin_full-177 on a Cliq XT. It seems to be working but I lost the Market app. How can I install it? Do I have to restore the backup? Pls suggestions will be appreciated

  • @LU2DKT Make sure to install GApps also via Recovery which will give you the market.

    cmw.22aaf3.com/gapps/gapps-gb-20110613-signed.zip

  • How do I get google apps? It didn't come with Cyanogen.

  • Mastermind278 you should make a tutorial on how to go back to stock version because I forgot to have the recovery and some ppl probably did also

  • @fatman121314 On ModMyMobile they have the RSD file and you can use RSDLite 4.6 to flash back to stock. Pretty simple.

  • how do you get back to your normal rom on the motorola cliq xt? how do you get 1.5 back? or better yet do you have a rom with motoblur where everything works?

  • @passionzrose Go to ModMyMobile, they have the stock files that can be flashed via RSDLite 1.6 brining your phone completely back to stock.

  • @passionzrose ModMyMobile has a few 2.1 Roms with Motoblur working. Check out their CliqXT section!

  • Comment removed

  • ok so i did what you said in the last vid and got the little error message towards the end that you said it would be okay if we got that but now when i go into recovery mode and press the volume down button i get the explanation point....please help!!!

  • @passionzrose If you get Explanation point then u didn't install the recovery properly. If you load the app list and see SuperUser installed start from #2 installing Recovery.

  • okay, i got to install cm7 but after i reboot it, it keeps on restarting the cm reboot. it goes from the skateboard bug to the loop, the bug, to the loop, and so on

  • @ItsJBasbas Make sure to do WIPE ALL and use the WIPER before installing.

So WIPE ALL ... FLASH ZIP ... WIPER ... CM7 ZIP ... Gapps Zip

  • @mastermind278 i got it to work. im running on motoblur 2.1. i tried the cm7 and it stayed on the reboot screen for almost 3 hours so i decided to flash motoblur 2.1 instead. it did that loop thing for a while then it randomly stopped and started working. also is there a different recovery image where i dont have to use the trackpad because my trackpad isn't working properly ):

  • my trackpad won't work for the recovery! is there a different recovery image i can use?

  • i get to the volume down part and i do get exclamation mark with a little phone by it. but i made sure i installed the root n recovery . i actually did it twice. any thing im doing wrong?

  • @elye7 That means the recovery has not installed. If you really have root (check your Applist for SuperUser (looks like a ninja)), if it's there, you can probably go to market, download ROM Manager and get a recovery installed (not a huge fan of this method but might work too).

  • I must have the Gingerbread installed before installing the CM7??

  • @Imdonewithu Installing CM7 will give you Cyanogen Mod!

  • @mastermind278 OK.. I must be doing something wrong then.. I just get the initial motorola screen and keeps re booting from there.. Awesome tutorial btw! thank you very much

  • does everything work

  • @Lilg1412 Yes everything works on 2.3.4 - Gingerbread on CM7 for the CliqXT

  • @mastermind278 yeah i just bought this phone.. cause i couldnt afford one of the newer ones.. so is this os stable??? or does it run errors.? any major problems?? thanks good vids

  • Thanks it worked!!!

  • da hell have you been you genius

  • @Sh4dowLugia WIPE everything, Wipe All... If you are in the custom recovery, re-rooting would make no difference. You could try a different recovery but once again I don't think that will make a difference. Also if you used GroovyG's ROM before there are certain differences to go back to the other CliqXT roms as per the thread on modmyMobile. Ask there for more comprehensive advice.

  • @Sh4dowLugia It takes a while for the first boot to work. Also make sure to do the WIPE ALL before installing.

  • i installed the custom recovery and im still get the exclamation point

  • @naii09 You need to root your phone, and install the custom recovery ROM first.

  • wassup with the camera having to lower the mp just to zoom in? that sucks!

  • Hi, I've install Android 2.3 by turl , and I don't have data conection and 3g. Can you help me?

  • So im using this...i love it...everything is fine,,,but what about the camera..has it been fixed...can u tell me how...aand tell me if any other problems can be fixed..hanks

  • Nice vid but why did u say get 2.3 2.1 or even 2.2 like that I mean like not in order and like 2.2 is the best one lol

  • thanks 4 the sweet video worked just fine 4 me

  • Pra que froyo se ja temos a ginger CyanogenMod 7...é nós BRAZIL

  • so i did everything right, and when i reboot my phone it takes me to the custom recovery, problem is my trackpad doesnt work ;/ is there any other way i can do it without having to use that?

  • @mikdeez8 Try using the older j_r0dd custom recovery that uses the volume buttons to navigate. I msged you the link.

  • Does the motorola cliq xt has to be rooted to do the upgrade or it doesn't have to be rooted?

  • @Jesuspollito42 yes.

  • will this work for the defy?

  • It worked perfectly for me. This rom is awesome.

  • Which file do I download when I get to the Download page?

And, I know I sound stupid. but how do you backup and restore?

  • @AllDayNoWay1 Well you should probably download the newest build, they have a date next to them.

As for the Gapps they haven't been updated for a while so just grab the one in the other link.

To Backup go into the Recovery, choose BACKUP and choose Backup Nand. To restore you'd also go into recovery but would choose restore.

  • This worked like a charm for me :) thanks alot for it i was about to change phones

  • what can i do when my cliq xt boots in blue screen

    usb fastboot:V0.5

    Machine ID: zeppelin 0a00

    build date:xxxxx

    serial number:

    **security on , fastboot disabled**

  • @juiceboxkilla You must have pressed VOL UP, make sure to press VOL DOWN!

  • @mastermind278 well when i try to press either one it sends me back to the blue screen. any way i can restore it to factory default?

  • will this work for a rogers quench? and does everything work like it suspose to? i was going to root it and install the last rom on ur page but the i didnt because something about the 3g frequencies

  • @Talkshitgethit69 CM7 doesn't include a RADIO so it will not affect any 3G Frequencies. And yes most everything does work.

One step I didn't show on the video is the BACKUP. Always BACKUP the nand before doing the WIPE and installing the ROM so you can go back to stock if necessary.

  • @mastermind278 im new to all this stuff lol and i dont really know what im doing i had a samsung captivate before this and i rooted it but it was very easy to do how do i back up the device and when do i do it

  • @Talkshitgethit69 Backup the device once you boot into the custom recovery. In the video the first thing I chose was WIPE, instead choose Backup/Restore First, then choose Backup Nand, let it run.

After that you can do the WIPE ALL and install the ROM.

  • @mastermind278 ill give it a try thanks alot for your help!

  • @Talkshitgethit69 If you want to go back to completely stock I recommend using RSD Lite 4.6

Here are simple instructions on how to use it on ModMyMobile.

  • @mastermind278 i already rooted and installed 2.3...... and everything went perfectly so i cant restore back to default? using this root and rom? sorry for all the questions lol like i said im new to this

  • @Talkshitgethit69 Well you can restore back to stock (1.5) using the RSDLite. You can change roms by going into the recovery.

  • @mastermind278 is there anyway that you could send a link just for future refrence

  • There are quite a few good amount of ROMS, please read the feedback on ModMyMobile to figure out which are the best.

If you want Gingerbread (Android 2.3.3) then this is the best rom.

If you want Android 2.1 (Eclair) there are a few options either Blurred or without Blur.

  • whats the best rom? AND THANK YOUUUUU IT WORKED FINALLY!

  • this phone does not have the error screen goes crazy when plugged into a PC?

  • @erikpaixao18 I have no idea what you mean. If you'd like post on ModMyMobile and ask for help there.

  • @mastermind278 Brazilian CliqXT phones came with an error on screen when plugged into the USB port on the computer. The touchscreen is crazy. Not familiar with this error? It is a hardware problem. I asked out of curiosity, I thought everyone had this error

  • @erikpaixao18 No such problems like that on my US CliqXT nor have similar problems been reported on ModMyMobile by other CliqXT users.
