  • @TheSubtextQueen Oh no if you watch the whole scene she is a bitch she just talks about herself and what people will think, then Tess breaks down and she comforts her, that's the part in the trailer.

  • I just read the book and loved it. I don't want to pass judgement on the film version because I haven't seen it but Joan Durbeyfield seemed a lot more sympathetic in the trailer than in the book. When Tess told her what happened she was more selfish and angry.

  • this looks so good, but after reading all these comments i guess i´ll never watch it. i really can´t stand sad endings^^; man and i love redmayne :(

  • @Lilithly Its still worth it, I promise! Just try not to get emotionally attached. This is one of Eddie's best in my opinion.

  • @silverarrow379 nahh i´m always depressed for days after watching these kind of endings^^; that´s also the reason why i totally can´t stand "walk the line" or "indian love story"...

  • So beatiful!

  • omgggggg i i loved this show! it was really good!

gemma aterton played tess real good... and eddie redmayne is soooooo hot! ♥

  • Eddie Redmayne is so HOT and CUTE in this! <3

  • Yeah ! I would love to find it..

i think there was some information on the Tess of the d'Urbervilles imdb page

  • @emptyxsilence i looked on there as well, but couldn't find anything.

  • haha even though this film was obviously sad, i watched it for the hot lads =] haha... great film though, but i'm afraid to read the book since it's sad :/

  • I am named after this movie.

  • @sillywillybeanstock, it was a book before a movie... Sucks to be named after a movie haha.

  • @MilkyMalc you know, i dont really care, Either way it is the same story i dont get why being named after a movie is such a bad thing...

  • it's difficult to read...but it seems more captivating on screen than on paper.

  • I'm reading it right now. It's a hard read but it's insteresting.

  • hey guyz!! there was also a play on this starred Robert Patz....anyone knows where can we find that?? any1!!!

  • Comment removed

  • I saw the movie in PBS classic movies... It's pretty good I recomend... Doesn't this Tess looks like Demi Lovato?

  • LOL!! That is EXACTLY what I thought!!

  • @alesince1992 Except that Demi Lovato is not a good actress and Gemma Arterton is...

  • Yea that is so true...I heard she got casted to be Catherine on Wuthering Heights and Ed Westwick will play Heathcliff

  • I love Tess of the D'Ubervilles, such a great book and Gemma was amazing in this. Whats the song thats played here?

  • me and my charms, its in the info box :)

  • Gemma is so beautiful and she's great Tess. I think that she will be great Cathy, even though I don't like Ed like Heathcliff. I think that Henry Cavill will be maybe better and I would like to see him along with Gemma in some movie.

  • cant wait to see Gemma as Cathy in 'Wuthering Heights' next year!

  • reading the book..cant stop reading it...made me cry twice already...when i finish the book i 'll watch this and probabaly cry again..

  • Woooo! One of my favourite actresses playing the character I'm named after!! Woot woot!

  • this movie made me cry more times than i can count. and i stayed up till 3 waiting for a happy ending!!!!!!!!! angel is Soooo HOT though!!!

  • the angel in the 1998 oner is hotter... but the acting sucked in that movie.

  • Wow this looks so good. I hope its on netflix so I can put it on my list!

    :)

  • Ahhh, Gemma made this film enjoyable for me. I think she's like my first girl crush haha. It's unbelievably amazing how well she just fits into the classic setting of this movie... loved the beginning scene of her in the May Dance...

  • You aint the only one ;)

But seriously, she's an amazing actress :D

  • We saw this at school and it was soo sad. It was our GCSE english novel we had 2 study and alot of people were cryin wen we saw the film version.

  • I loved it!

  • haha thats my name!

  • Can there be a more depressing movie than this one...I think not. But you know what it's still good...very good.

  • I'm halfway through the book. I hope to finish it soon so I can watch it :).

  • EVERY part is on youtube

  • I'm french and I don't understand the first speech.

    What does Tess say ?

  • "We danced there once; May Day several years ago."

I speak English and I didn't hear it at first either :)

  • You dance there once a May day some years ago...I believe I could be mistaken.

  • Ok I'm not very good at french but here goes: She says, "Nous avons danses la, un May Day il y a quelques annees."

  • Eddie Redmayne is SO hot as Angel!

  • I agree!

  • @Kayleenah totally hate him

  • I cried when I read the book a few years ago. Read it twice. Saw the adaptation two times and cried horribly everytime, especially when Tess is executed. She didn't deserve all the misery she suffered. Both men wronged her in some way. I just wish Angel stayed with her because she loved him soo much!

  • @cndwindy thanks alot mate-u just ruined the entire story for me. Cheers.

  • @Nippersrox you're not alone mate... i've just had it ruined by that comment too... absolutely scunnered.

  • @cndwindy i was just about to start reading the book and wanted to watch the trailer to get an idea what to expect... so she gets executed in the end then?

  • Hey could somebody help me out please. I'm reading the book for school and I'm wondering if the movie is the same. Please tell me. Thx

  • yes, it's a rather faithful adaption of the novel, but does not cover all parts of the novel...not all of the sort of things that a test on this novel would include.

  • well in the movie, they take out some scenes, but it is mostly the same. The change around the dialogue a bit too, but all the main events are the same. :)

  • Who has the first part? I saw the 2nd part but I didn't get it because I didn't saw the fist part

  • first part is on youtube.

  • oh yes i saw it, now it all makes sence

  • Kristen Hirsch singing in the background.

  • Wow! I never knew til now that my favorite novel has been interpreted to a motion picture. I still recall how I presented this back in college. I love the story. i love the profundity. I love everyhting about it.

  • This movie was so sad. I just caught it one night as it was airing on PBS Masterpiece Theater, and I was hooked. I loved the whole thing! I had no idea how it was going to end, so I was completely blown away by the ending. I cried for days after the end :(

  • i love this movie but i saw it on pbs this movie is realy dramatic in a good way

  • I love this bbc show and I don't know why this series isn't more famous (maybe because there isn't a happy end like in the Jane Austen adaptions...).

And thank god I've watched this. Now I'm a big Hans Matheson fan. He's such a real cutie! My dream man... ;-)

  • tess is my name

  • Ah... Music maniac... you will be buying prostitutes for the rest of your life

  • How exactly did what I said make you think that I buy prostitutes? If you bothered to think before you typed you would realize that I never said anything about whether Alec was right or wrong in using Tess. Im not the kind of sick twisted person who uses people like that.

  • Your opinion is obviously not wanted here. All you brought was negativity. "Worst book I ever read"... That is how a moron talks. You could have stated your opinion in a completely different manner. People have cried about the passion and drama in the movie and book. And you come here with your "worst book" MORON TALK. Obviously you have no friends to talk to and so... you buy prostitutes. You should "bother to think" how you get your opinion across before you start writing comments, OK? good.

  • you musicmaniac are a moron. its his style of writing, he was an author of the pastoral that was the whole point, he wanted to contrast the idyllic countryside to the corruption of the city

  • I understand exactly what he wanted to do. I simply stated that I do not like that quality about his writing. I am not a moron for stating my opinion. If I am a moron for doing so then I suppose everyone in the world is a moron. We have all had negative opinions about something in our lives.

  • Gemma's playing Cathy in Wuthering Heights soon.

  • How many hours is the series all together?

  • It's 4 hours all together.

  • An amazing series. Gemma is beautiful as Tess.

  • i love eddie redmayne

  • I've watch loads of period drama, bur this is simply the best, despite the fact that it is a sad story. I can't stop crying......incredibly heartbreaking.... ;(

  • This was such a beautiful series. The final episode actually made me cry, and I do'nt do that a lot at movies, so...^^

  • yes me to

    it was very sad

  • Bahaha, none of the men in this film have substance if you think about it. The women suffer for it. It's brilliant. Oh, and Gemma is BEAUTIFUL!!!

  • Fantastic piece!

Jane Eyre < Tess of Durberville!

  • Eddie Redmayne is simply beautiful

  • please SOMEONE upload the whole thing!!

    *im begging*

  • @janeEyreAddict its here type the innitials i think like this T.O.T.D part 1

  • @NothingED thanks ill check out...

  • @NothingED i can't find it :(

  • I am not gonna lie....Eddie is good-looking. Well, for a bad guy. But he doesn't look like a bad guy, so will the people who is filming New Moon please give Eddie a part?

  • AHHH ive meet eddie redmayne!!!! he is such a lovely person and made a fab Angel x

  • so jealous!!

  • Eddie Redmayne would make a good Edward Cullen me thinks

  • I bought this on DVD the other week as I missed it when it was on the TV, I've watched it twice since getting it, now half way through my third viewing. I think all three of them work so well together and in the making of on the DVD they said how important it was to get three people with a chemistry that worked. I personally preferred Angel, but he was more of a hypocrite than Alec. All three actors are amazing, such a sad ending :-(

  • This was such an amazing movie!!! i loved the cast, music, and cinemetography. it was fantastic, props to Masterpiece!!!

  • you mean BBC

  • what did i say?

  • that it was made by Masterpiece. It was made by the BBC but doesnt really matter.

  • i think alec is hot!

  • He is hot but he is a creep. Lol

  • ha! well even still, i think he is much hotter than angel. just my opinion.

  • Agreed. And I think the character of Alec came off better (acting and chemistry wise) than the character of Angel, who seems dimwitted throughout most of the mini (although he was good toward the climax), and totally lacking any romantic charisma, IMO. The love story element between Tess and Angel was somewhat lacking in this version. Alec comes off best of the two men, despite that he was a scoundrel (with a troubled soul). What can I say, I find Hans Matheson smokin' hot!

  • yes agreed, he is a great actor and his role was very well played. i am also glad that they gave alec a backround which was sort of his reason for acting "bad"

  • Does anyone know where I can watch this movie online?

  • idk but let me know if you find anywhere cause i wanna watch it too!

  • oh sorry someone already asked that. sorry!

  • does anyone know what song is playing in the background of this trailer?

  • did someone else tell you it's kristen hirsch me and my charms.

  • well someone else asked that above and i wrote this before i saw that but yes i know now thanks

  • does any one know which is the best version of Tess of The D'urbervilles

  • coolcattzzzz, really I don't think it matters. Of course, we all have our own opionions.

  • It depends on your own opinion and view. I consider this BBC mini to be my second favorite, mainly because I found Eddie Redmayne's performance and lack of chemistry with Gemma Arterton's Tess a distraction, but Gemma is great, as is Hans Matheson as Alec and the rest of the supporting cast. And the music! The 1998 A&E/LWT miniseries is my favorite, the best Tess/Angel romance, while the 1979 Polanski film, although I like it, is a distant third. It moves very slowly, and lack of romance.

  • After watching the first part on masterpiece, I was impatiently waiting for the last part. Now that I've seen it, I'm happy to know the ending, although incredibly sad.(I won't say anything more, incase someone didn't watch it all, or hasn't read everything), but I'm going to start to read the book. I've heard it's much better than the movie; although it's quite hard to compete with the visual chemistry of Alec and Tess and Angel and Tess. Although,I'm sure both, no comparison needed are great!

  • Angel id sooooooooo hot!!

  • I randomly found this 3 in the morning and loved it! I wasn't sure at first, but I knew I saw Gemma from another film, which was James Bond. haha weird.

  • Loved Gemma & Hans. Eddie, not so much. He was too insipid in the role of Angel, not really any romantic chemistry between him and Tess. But it's still a great mini, my second favorite.

  • what is the song playing in the background?

  • Comment removed

  • angel=cutest man alive!

i watched it on tv last night and caught the last half. and was quite confused. everything was happening WAY to fast...

what happened to Tess that makes her so worried? :/

    ~confused

  • alec raped her and she was worried that angel would not marry her if he found out

  • Alec rapes Tess.

  • I randomly found this on TV last night, and now I REALLY want to read the book. It's such a sad but beautiful story.

  • Same here. Since seeing it on "Masterpiece," I've been trying to learn all I can about it. I definitely will read the book now and cannot wait to see the conclusion Sunday. Poor Tess. Absolutely heartbreaking.

  • they're all idiots, Tess, Angel and the other guy who's name escapes me. The ending was one of the most frustrating endings I've ever had the displeasure to see...

  • I watched it today on PBS! It was wonderful! I can't wait until next Sunday! [:

  • I think Tess was Great. I loved the serie.

  • I loved this adaptation. Gemma & Eddie

do a really good job playing Tess & Angel.

The story itself is so Heartbreaking.

  • I LOVE THIS BOOK

  • wots the song in this ad???
