@ApollyonoyllopA thought about a d5000, but, lack of video controls killed it for me.. then the 5n came out and it has awesome video and full manual controls. i would use manual focus anyways. but, if i want a smaller still photo camera to go with my nikons, i would have gotten the d5000.
@JogBird Are you sure? Most DSLR camera kits come with at least a body cap. This is a pretty silly omission on Sony's part. So when you mount your Nikon lens, the NEX kit lens without a rear cap. This is surprising and pretty lame on Sony's part.
@marike1100 yea. if you notice the lens comes mounted on the body.. and there are no body/rear lens caps. the NEX7 + 18-55 kit does come with those extra caps though. its supper annoying because i cant transport my 18-55 when i use an 3rd party lens.. and you cant separate the body to make it smaller for travel. if you really need them, you can get them on ebay for about $4-5.
@mdrivera77 i would only get the 7 if i wanted the EVF and much better ergonomics, the 24mp sensor is not worthwhile unless you get good lenses, use a tripod, and print really big... otherwise the extra pixels dont make any difference. the 7 also has a standard mic jack and apparently is less prone to overheat during video.
I really love this camera! Very nice for my time-lapse movies. I can do time-lapse photography with the NEX using this simple remote intervalometer:TEMPUS. have you tryed it? website at: tempus.bymac.org
does the camera support autofocus and macro modes ang shooting modes,,?? and how about the flash, is it easy to snap on? plss reply i really need it, thanks
@gadgetgeek1000 it has a number of autofocus (e.g. single, face, tracking, etc).
for macro shooting, you need to attach a macro lens like the 30/f3.5. there is no "macro mode"
it has a ton of shooting modes, basically, everything you would expect from a modern camera. some of them are really fun, like the miniature and toy camera.
the flash screws on, it might be tricky with gloves on, but, shouldnt be hard otherwise.
@JogBird thanks, but what if i don't have a macro lenz? i won't be able to capture close up subjects like flowers &etc?? coz other cameras have built in macro shooting mode,, btw thanks1 liked your vids
@gadgetgeek1000 interchangeable lens cameras do not have "macro modes".. they are found on point and shoot cameras and all it means its that its "focusing really close". the closest focusing distance depends on the lens; i dont know what it is with the kit lens, but, you should be able to take photos of flowers just fine.. if you want to "get closer" then you need a macro lens. just punch macro lens into the search bar to learn more about it.
Beware as removing the orange sticker Sony puts on the touch panel/LCD can remove the LCD screen coating when you remove it. Sony is aware of this but isn't making any public announcements warning consumers to beware, nor are they changing their practice of applying this sticker onto the screen for marketing purposes with the new cameras in the box.
@mdrivera77 you need a class 4 sdhc or higher. but, they are so cheap nowadays, just go for the faster card. i got a 32gb class 10 sdhc for $40 on sale awhile back. it takes sdxc as well, but, unless you have an sdxc reader you have to use the camera as the card reader.
@Nitro92k the mic is for videos. if you look at my 5n playlist, all of the 5n videos use the mic.. i dont have samples without the mic, because its just better and theres no point not using it if you have it. to get a sense of the quality, use a pair earphones and notice the stereo separation (there is less separation when the noise is being blasted from a loud speaker).
can you review the nikon to e mount adapter ? does this work with g lenses ? I wanna buy one, but dont know witch and how... really appreciate if you could do a vid for the adapter.
@blackhawk868 you could always use and external recorder and syc in post. but, the connector is proprietary to sony. the nex7 has a std 3.5mm mic jack.
Hey, I just watched your NEX 5N unboxing video. I was wondering, what was the brand name of the nikon lens converter you used on the video? I assume its a third-party brand right? Not officially from Sony.
@chromatix2001 it came in an unmarked box with a Made in China stamp on it. i got it off ebay for about $30 shipped. just search ebay for "nex nikon adapter" there are lots of resellers selling the same version. photo results depend on the lens, youre essentially shooting a DX body. the 5n sensor does have offset micro lenses at the periphery of the sensor to help with edge and corner sharpness, if that matters to you.
I assume you have thought about Panasonic GH2? especially with the hacked firmware? If you did thought about it, what was the reason for purchasing NEX-5N over GH2 ? GH2 seems to be extremely impressive with newer hack'd firmwares.
@xxgg the still image quality of the 5n is much, much better. in terms of video, im only using third party lenses, so, the larger APSc sensor means my wide angle lenses stay wider... eg. the 24/1.4 i use would be like a 50mm equiv.. pretty much a waste. if i were starting from scratch, i would have given the gh2 more thought because it is pretty impressive when hacked (although, the video dynamic range of the 5N unhacked is still superior and you have 1080p60).
@poolpo17 at this point, i would get something like the NEX5n over an entry DSLR.. once you move up, say D5100, A55, then its a toss up depending on what youre looking for... but, the 5N is not close to being competitive with a D7000 level DSLR. in terms of image quality, its among the best non-FF (basically its the same as any camera using the Sony 16mp sensor)
@TheWwemichaeljackson "NEX-5N" is the upgrade to the "NEX-5" .. the "NEX-5A" is a specific colour/kit that the "NEX-5" is sold in.. i.e. i believe is the silver NEX-5.. so its last years model.
@badzbadua6 i would go for the 5n. its smaller, has image stabilised lenses for video (the mechanical IS does not work for video on the a55), has touch to focus, 60p and 24p at higher bitrates, and can adapt a wider array of lenses. the a55 has the standard mic port and GPS. 5n is also cheaper.
@xxgg i actually dont use a dedicated bag for this. i just toss it into whatever bag i happen to be carrying. although, i can probably tolerate more abuse with gear more than most people.. i.e. i dont really care if the body gets scratched up, as long as it still works.
I see from your video that the flash is included with your kit NEX-5NK. I see now all of the Kit part numbers are NEX-5NK/B. I can't tell if they have removed the flash from the kit. Do you or anyone else know if the kit still includes the flash?
@f1badude yes, even the body only package comes with the flash. they have to do it since its a consumer camera and the body doesnt have a popup flash. pro cameras like a D3s can get away with not including a flash. in any case, just read the product description / box contents
does the lens that comes with the box free or did u add cash for u to have it? is it the nex 5nK? im confused with the lens that comes with the box... pls help
@badzbadua6 the 5n is sold as a body-only or in kit form with a lens. the kit i bought came with the 18-55. but, just read the product description to see which lens it comes with.
@IzReticuli it was the quietest room in my place at the time.. had to lock the door and barricade myself in there. the lighting isnt bad either, i just have pot lights etc everywhere else. the best thing about the nex is that you can configure it so many ways depending on what youre trying to do.
hey man... I would like to know if u have the clicking sound that people talking about, while recording? and how is the camrera working with u so far?. I want to buy it. But people just scared the shit out of me!!! please give me an honest answer...
@ibo69ibo i have over 20 videos in my 5n playlist, the only one with clicking is where the "Torture Test"... its just a non-issue because of the way i shoot (slow panning, deliberate, etc), if you're gonna run and gun this and use it as an ENG then its going to be an issue. but, this is all moot since Sony has offered to fix it and the newer batches should have no issues at all.
@JogBird Thank you, yes i have seen the other videos u have after i wrote the comment. and its pretty impressive how u know the solution to get rid of the clicking sound.
Hi, can you let me know when you use the lens adapter does the Auto focus Work? I am looking at getting this camera and maybe getting a Tamron 18-270mm lens. But have been told different things about the auto focus working. Appreciate your help.
@fenzy84 to enable AF, you need to use an e-mount lens, or a Sony lens with a Sony adapter that enables AF. so, that Tamron would have to be a Sony mount and you would need the Sony adapter with electronic connections. imo, i dont think that would be a very good lens for the NEX, its slow and at 270mm you will have a hard time holding it still enough to get a good photo
@JogBird Thanks for the reply, So just to confirm in order to use a telephoto lens with AF then it is either the E mount 18-200mm lens or a Sony A mount adapter with a Sony A mount Telephoto lens. If I use a Nikon adapter and get a Nikon Telephoto lens then the AF won't work? Thanks for your help I am quite new to this type of photography so just wanted to make sure I knew all the info.
@fenzy84@fenzy84@fenzy84 if youre looking for a telephot0 option, the new NEX 55-210 is probably you best option, it pairs perfectly with the 18-55, has IS that works, AF that works, and is pretty cheap. its performance would be on par with the 18-55 and i suspect better than the 18-270 given the smaller focal range. myself, 50mm is the longest non-sony lens i would use because the lenses just gett too big and the focal lengths too long to hold stabilly.
@888cromartie yea, but the 18-55 kit is $100 more than the US price.. and everything else Sony sells is more ezpensive here.. like the EVF is $450, the 16/2.8 is $300, the C3 kit is $750 (more than the US price of the 5n), etc, etc
@orthusnet yea, its manual focus... but, its SUPER easy on the 5N, you touch the oart of the screen you want to magnify and it zooms in, so you can fine tune focus. theres also focus peaking. this is really the camera to get if you want to use manual focus lenses. thanks for watching.
@visuals12345 yea, the 5 was a 1.8x crop in video mode, now, it just crops the top and bottom of the 3:2 frame down to 16:9 (not sure what the math is, but, its so much better).. if you set your still image size to 16:9 you can preview in 16:9 and start recording video without cropping!!! i added more stuff in the description. Sony basicaly corrected everything that was wrong with the video implementation on the 5. im going to do a more thorough review on the video aspects later
You sound like kip from napoleon dynamite.
