  • Sounds nice with the fingers.

I'm still playing this one with a pick ,. . . just never got around

    to learning finger style.

I actually play all Howe's stuff with a pick. Don't know why, just do.

    ...

  • @bent139 Thanks for the nice comment, bent139! Much apreciated!

  • bad

  • This song was the reason I wanted to learn guitar, I am neither good enough or dedicated enough to ever be able to play it.

You have done a fantastic rendition and to be fair to you, I could close my eyes and be listening to Steve himself playing.

    Excellent

  • @CokeeDaPenguin Thanks for your kind words, CokeeDaPenguin!

  • oh my Lord

  • Since first hearing this song I decided my life's mission would be to play it as none other; to achieve a mastery to make angels weep in envy. Years I spent practicing, hunched over a battered guitar late into the night, fingers bleeding, eyes bleary and back bent. I emerged after countless hours of toil as the undisputed master of Mr. Howe's opus. Other pretenders bowed before me and despaired. But now...now my life's work lays in ruins at my feet. The King is dead. Long live the King!

  • @evilroy12 :) Thanks for that, evilroy12. Your words are entertaining and appreciated! :)

  • That was astounding sir, such a difficult piece. I've been beginning to take classical guitar much more serious lately, and I'm just starting to really get around this song...it's still a workout everytime I play it though haha. Loved your video from The Ancient too, as a 20 year old you have no idea how much it helps to have people such as yourself posting videos to aide us youngsters with our playing. You have a fabulous natural technique, one day I'll be able to play this! Rush and YES!

  • @faningo276 thanks for the comment, faningo276!

  • super !!!

  • I am going to replay this most delicious-performance that you have just mastered so fantastically, Chirs21125150. WOW-ing right to my core. Chills. I love the fingering toward the end---masterfully played. There should be more recent comments, Chris. You are rally grand. Antoine DuFour is one of my Fave's now I can also include you because my Chez Friend Jarda sent you my way. I must thank him once again for sending another GEM. Peace and love and keep playing. Humanity Needs Music.:)<3

  • Very nice. Doesn't need any cowbell.

  • I'm relearning this after about 20 years of not playing it. Seriously impressive rendition man. Congrats.

  • 1:30 /31 something did not sound good

  • wow, fantastic job! perhaps the best on YouTube. even got the last note, lol.

  • All I can say is WOW! Steve Howe would be proud!

  • nice! very nice!

  • Wonderfull man, you play beatifully, good job!

  • bravissimo!

  • You are amazing! One of my desert island tunes- flawless. Thank you. Instant fan.

  • Tabs are for wannabes. I played that shit by ear only, as many guitar lovers do

  • nice work dude,impressive

  • i don't like the way you are playing it BUT!!! before I get a million thumbs down it is AMAZINGLY played i'm just not a fan of HOW its played by you, but I mean, its ur rendition and its a very very good one, good job, 5 stars

  • once again thanks chris for the great cover of mud for a day by yes, simply wonderfull

  • technically very good....but too fast and you lacked a bit of feeling...sorry

  • Very beautifully played. It's NOT as good as Steve Howe, but it's close. way to go

  • Bravo.plus que tres bien.Belle maitrise.

  • Better than Steve Howe...well done!

  • excelente, muy veloz y armonico ...ademas de uno de los mejores temas de steve howe(yes)!!!

  • Excellent!

  • good!

  • Well done, sir!

  • Beautiful! I'm hoping to get it like that soon.

  • did you use the alfred yes fragile classic albums music book

  • wonderful performance. i'm polishing this song myself right now. thanks chris!

  • Very nicely done. I used to be able to play 'most' of this but never really nailed it.

    Nice work!

  • Sometime Steve himself plays that song worse...very good job.

  • Bravo

    WonderFull *****

  • I wish all these folks would quit micro-evaluating your playing; you play wonderfully! Fantastic rendition, I wish I could play as well as you! Super job!

  • Thanks, stymiepop!

  • beautiful

  • Mto bom, esse som é animal !! Mando bem !!

  • really nice!!!!

  • amazing, just slow a little :)

  • yeah man! you got it, it's absolutely perfect!

  • Exquisite!

  • I think you have every note, but it's the phrasing and timing, you have to breathe when you are executing this piece, it is impressive, but play along with the record and you will see where in sections you are rushing it, this is in 2006 I will see if I can find a newer version... Real nice though

  • Good Job Guy !!!!

  • Chris? How many times must you have practiced in order to be able to play a nearly flawless version of this beautiful piece of music?

I'm amazed at your skill. Well done

  • That's a great video man. I've been meaning to record this song myself, but I haven't had time. Yours is fantastic though. Well done!

  • awesome....but to fast

  • chris, a cover worthy of howe himself!

very good, like others have said before me, try not rush, its hard not to, keep on playing, and keep up the good work.

  • Chris, that was a near perfect cover and marvel @ that type of guitar work !! Be proud and good luck in the future !

  • hi, nice to meet you.

    your play is so sweet!!

    love it.

  • great job .... resist the urge to rush the song and it will be perfect .. I learned to play this in college and it took me 2 weeks to get it down... its a killer ... great rendition

  • if it took you two weeks to get it down, then you probably can't play it remotely right.

  • two weeks is ample time for a talented guitarist to play it well

  • at 0:48 you get a little to fast.

but great work i never thaught that somebody can make a cover of this.

    but you did it.

    keep up the good work.

  • Very Nice

  • hey great job on the song. amazing guitar work.

  • Hey Chris - I just found your cover of Mood For A Day. Another fantastic job!! And with regards to something I wrote in my comment on a previous piece you covered. Ignore me - I'm smiling enough watching and listening for the both of us!! LOL I honored to be a subscriber of your YT Channel. I hope I can post solo performances a fraction as good as yours.

  • You are an unbeleiveable guitar player. Have you ever been in a band?

  • Thanks for the compliment, MrFlux83. Yes, I play with a group of guys who are affiliated with a YES tribute band. We will be performing a show in the Vancouver area June. Thanks for the comment.

  • well done Chris , bang up job

  • thanks, robertcoccaro.

  • Bravo! Wonderful sounding guitar.

  • Thank you, ceswert.

  • perfect timing!

love the jazzing up near the end

    sounded just as howe

    great job!!

    5 stars

  • Thanks for your kind words, ppackers0430.

  • Well done mate! I spent an entire weekend (long before YouTube!) figuring this song and watching your finger movements, it appears we both had the same interpretation of Mr Howe's work! Figuring out this song is not for the faint-hearted...;o)

  • Thanks for the comment, Jacorem.

  • You get 5 stars. Howe gets six! lol

  • Thanks for the stars, nsaretard.

  • speedy gonzalez on the guitar here

  • great rendition, there are so many trying, you actually achieved it..well done

  • Thanks, MOSKII58.

  • watch your times, too fast sometimes and to slow other times, and no harmonics

  • executed very well ! Nice Job !

  • Thank you, GUITARPLAYER45324

  • WOW! I like it!

  • i listened to hours upon hours of yes as a teen and let me thank you for carrying on their music!

  • Thanks for the comment, trappchevrolet.

  • at 0:58 was that a harmonic?

  • yes it is

  • yea this song took me a long time to learn and probably not that correct because it was from my teachers memory

  • It's amazing what years of practice and dedication can do. That is an awesome cover of Mood For a Day. If you're a single man, I suggest you bring this video to the bar, and just show women it. Something about women and music = fun night.

  • im in shock.:o

  • wow!!

  • this is so awesome

  • realy nice, well done! but at the scale thing that starts at 1.05 the C u play on 1.07 doesn't that note need to be an A#? try it that sounds realy good ( i know it's just one note but it makes a big difference)

  • Yah, you're probably right. I think I heard that from someone else. I learned this song a long long LONG time ago, I guess I learned it the wrong way.

  • Very Smooth for a day.

    Good job.

  • chris you are really good... nice job

  • ★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★ Very nice job! Steve Howe is amazing!!! My rendition of mood for a day is slighly different! under kbmusic1965

    ★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★

  • EXCELLENT

  • Hey, man, nice tone and terrific phasing - I like how(e) you blended elements of the studio version with live elements. One thing, and this may already have been mentioned but I don;t have the patience to read every comment here, you're a tad off in the opening chords. You do G-G-G-F#-F# (2x) / G-G-G-F#7-F#7, but it's G-G-G-G-F# (2x) / G-G-G-G-F7# (minus the strumming on the last chord). Other than that, though, excellent job. Cheers from Montreal.

  • Thank you, awaken1001.

  • I like the way you play the opening...the rhythmic approach you employ is more Spanish sounding...

  • tabs?............just playin this is amazing as near to perfect as you can come with out being the legend himself

  • Bravo mate,

if I hadn't seen it I would believe someone could nail it!

  • Thank you, siminas4!

  • WWOOOOAAAHH man!

    You'r sick!

    That was SUPERB, PERFECT!

I'm learning this piece, some parts are very hard, specially the "chord-lead" part, and you nailed it just perfect!

Hope some day i could play this perfect as you do!

    Congrats! Seriusly!

    See ya, take care!

P.s: also, very cool that you know some spanish words xD! Im from Chile ^^ hehehe

  • Thanks for your comments, OsoASeks.

  • Real nice job. I'm sure Maestro Howe would be impressed too. This song as performed on Fragile and Yessongs always gives me an emotional reaction (kinda like Hardball's Chris Matthews "tingling feeling in my leg" thing) and your cover does the same, so I gotta believe you nailed it.

  • Thank you, websterbenson. I'm glad you enjoyed it.

  • Very nice my man, your fingers are crazy on and fast

  • Thank you, jahabadin16

  • great job man, really good, i´m from Venezuela so i don´t know many words in english: excelente amigo, espero tocar esa canción algun día asi como tu la tocas, sigue, mis respetos, tu admirador, Nicolás.

  • canariosdelmonte, muchas gracias para sus palabras amables. :)

  • I really like your cover, much better than I could do.

Plus you look kind of like Bill Murray.

  • Haha, thanks, bushinarin. To top it off, I got married on groundhog day! Coincidence? :)

  • Hey, i was planning on taking an approach to nylon stringed guitars for better lead guitar playing, that and they just sound sic.. I love the sound of yer guitar, but idk anything about nylons... What do u use since i really enjoy the sound you get from that acoustic

  • Do you learn by ear?

  • I do learn by ear a lot of the time, but this song I learned from tab many many years ago.

  • same, im planning on recording this soon/

  • Nobody puts emotion into music anymore...

  • Outstanding cover!!!

  • thank you, stymiepop!

  • masterful, Chris....

  • thanks, camcon05. Your words are appreciated!

  • shite ha only jokin absaloutly 1st class as always chris

  • thanks, bb97js

  • btw nicely done! better than me

  • Your words are appreciated, sk8FlipOut.

  • nice!

  • thanks, gbrleagh!

  • That's awesome dude. Well done.

And if you don't mind me asking, how long did it take for you to learn it?

I'm going to start trying to learn it.

  • Thanks. I learned it when I was 17. That was 20 years ago now. I'm still trying to get it right. :)

  • That's cool, I am 17 right now. I like a challenge though...

  • i can play this. if you learn it and practice it will get easier. im 14. but i dont wanna brag. i cant play it exactly though but its pretty close.
