  • Man i wish Louis Johnson would come back and make cameo appearances again,i would love to see what he would do today as a bass player,so many new one's now.Really enjoyed your playing your skill are great, playing one of his song is no easy task,he does so many ghost notes and mutes,he plucks a note in places where you have to slow the record down just hear it,He's my all time favorite, then Stanley clark and Pino palladino.

  • Your face at the end of the solo is pure happiness. ahahahahahahah :)

  • you're so cool

  • If you have the time, I would love to see you play any one of Evelyn Champagne King's songs like " Love Come Down" or any of Shalamar's songs. They have some pretty sweet basslines... " Second Time Around" or "Make that move".

  • Hi bassplayalone!!!!!

Pleaseeeee can you make a video tutorial of how do you make your bass videos, explaining ALL??

I would be very happy if you do a personal video explaining it..... :)))))

  • Very cool Bassline and very smoothly played! That's an awesome stingray, what year is it? Great job!

  • @BassistBob81 think its a 70s stingray its has the old emblem on the headstock.

  • I was thinking - hey I could do that but then at 2:44 minutes you shattered my illusion. No way I could slap like that man. Brilliant.

  • you're playing clean dude... impressive

  • you feel the funk dude :D

  • nice mustache!!!

  • Hey Thomas, why don't you ever play your Stingray anymore? =(

  • @Casperrrh Its has a broken circuit, just havent gotten it fixed yet - needs major fretwork too

  • @bassplayalong

Ah, I'm partly glad to hear that! I was afraid you didn't like it anymore :O

If it is fixed I'd like to see a funk slap jam please =)

    Keep it up!

  • @bassplayalong i can take it over if you dont want to do it xD haha

  • @bassplayalong How many hours a week do you play? I've put in about two five hour days this week, but then again I have dry spells for months...

Also, so pumped to see you playing the 'ray like Louis Johnson for this track!

  • @bassplayalong This is THE FUNKIEST cover of this classic. I am an BJ and bass fanatic. None I have heard comes even close to this. Where are you based? I used to write/produce in the 80's and 90's and I am fed up with the crap played today. Are you interested in recording "real music" played by "real musicians". If yes, I will send you my tweeter account and we can connect. FYI: I live in LA and London.

  • After I had watched this for the first time, I knew that I would be watching the rest of your videos, just so much talent and skill.

Because of your videos I had started practicing slap bass again and I am so glad I did.

Thanks for the videos and please keep them coming!

  • One of the first videos I found by you Marlow, and absolutely amazing at that. I had heard of The Brothers Johnson before, but wasn't aware of their music catalog.

I remember hearing this song as a kid, and you've brought back great memories!!

I play bass, and don't use a pick. My question is, do you get cramps in your "picking" (right) hand? Any ideas how to remedy that?

  • @puckdiv I only get cramps when i play over my ability - in others words: to fast for my own good:-D

  • @MarloweDK I truly don't believe there is anything OVER your ability Marlowe. I've seen you play virtually every style out there.... But it is good to know you are actually Human!! ( or at least we can hope ;-)> )

  • @puckdiv Slow down and relax your hand if you can feel the cramp coming and do warm-ups before playing.

  • @puckdiv u gotta warm up n keep playing little by little more than ur ability, just play everyday for like a month, then u can see a big difference even tho its not too much for everyone but it is a great way to improve

  • @thereturnfc Thanks for the comments guys...funny thing is, I've been playing guitar for almost 30yrs, and bass for about 12yrs. Could be the songs, could be that we play straight for 2hrs....songs like (I will survive - Cakes version, Osibisa - Survival, Malo - I love the way...etc) Maybe there are too many "busy" songs back to back?!?

  • @puckdiv omg haha i just played bass in highschool for jazz band n rock band now im in university...and just own a bass guitar for about 4 months, trying to learn smth and i find my finger is just not really moving like i wanted to do before on guitar(2years played before)

but since my exam is just over in canada, im going to play everyday!! so i will get slowly better!

puckdiv, i dont know those old music much but yea i love old stuffs!! well playing for 2 hrs striaght is tiredsome :P
