@rokmin I used to get bruising in my arms all the time from sparring. We used to normal rounds with moderate power, and rounds only to the body where we'd go as hard as we wanted. The latter was when you'd get bruised arms, and that was wearing 16 oz gloves that were soft even for the size. It doesn't take amazing power to do it. But yes, Rocky had great power for his size though he wouldn't be able to compete with modern top heavyweights.

At 185 lbs., Marciano probably would still be undefeated today, as a cruiserweight. With his toughness and power, he'd rule that division for 20 years and his sheer will to win and dominance would make him the best fighter pound-for-pound by today's standards.

Rocky was the best of his time no doubt, and possibly could have smashed many heavyweight champs up till today. NO one I have seen has the ability to land so many big punches in such a consistent and relentless way. He seemed to be a natural at gaining leverage and power from all angles without missing the target much at all. That torque he created was like mike tyson except from all directions. Being undefeated as a heavy weight champ has never been repeated, and probably never will be.

Rocky only weighed 188 at his best but don't let his size fool you, he hit HARD! People sparring with him often left with broken blood vessels in their arms and he trained by hitting the heavy bag 15 3 minute rounds with 1 min rest, just like a fight. The punch that knocked out Jersey Joe in the 13th came like a wrecking ball from outer space!

@rokmin I used to get bruising in my arms all the time from sparring. We used to normal rounds with moderate power, and rounds only to the body where we'd go as hard as we wanted. The latter was when you'd get bruised arms, and that was wearing 16 oz gloves that were soft even for the size. It doesn't take amazing power to do it. But yes, Rocky had great power for his size though he wouldn't be able to compete with modern top heavyweights.

Joe Luis was a relic when he fought and most of Rocky's opponents had no boxing finesse and basically just stood in front of Rocky. i would rate marciano above tyson in a heavyweight top 10. i'm not saying ali would have beaten him, but he did have the tools to do it. tyson would more likely have got beaten and so would frazier, norton holmes and all other heavys from '70 to '80. era. lewis & holyfield would have been an interesting match for the rock.

Archie Moore said that fighting Marciano was like fighting an airplane propellor. The man was absolutely tireless. He threw an unbelievable number of punches every round, and every one of 'em hurt. How many other heavyweights in boxing history have actually broken the arms of their opponents? No question in my mind, there's never been a heavyweight who could've beaten Rocky Marciano in his prime.

Even though he was only 185lbs, he could take 220 plus guys easy. He trained on a 400 pound bag! I read somewhere that he broke a guys front teeth off at the gums, and chipped a guys shoulder in the ring. He also hit a man so hard that he was paralyzed on one side of his body for life.

Marciano was one of the nicest people out of the ring and an unstoppable machine in the ring, probably the hardest man ever to enter a boxing ring and just knowing about Marciano and what he stood for made me a better fighter..
When he beat Joe louis, he cried in the dressing room afterwards cos louis was his hero as a child. Thats gotta be the the most touching sports story ive ever heard. Great video, thanks mate

rocky was great - a smashing nonstop puncher - but don't forget - jersey joe gave him hell for twelve rounds and he was 38 and marciano was 29! archie moore knocked him down and gave him a battle for nine rounds and moore was 41! ezzard charles was past his best days and starting to develop ALS and he gave rocky two hard fights.
