Bravo dude!, this device is so accurate to all those songs! Is this think like the other processors though, like the POD Live, where when you crank it for live, it sounds like shit?
Honestly I checked the clips on these Axe FX preamps and they achieve a good studio sound but, dont sound believable live. It sounds more like a studio recording which is good for listener but as a player you want that Punchy dynamics to give you inspiration
do you have that "uno" mod on your midi board? I'm looking at this exact setup.... well, basically just the axe and the behringer midi board... How do you like them together?
sweet i have that poweramp with my axe too. You seem to really crank the presence. Just wondering where do you usually set the volume on your mosvalve?
@maltomario i want to buy a axe fx, too; when i play with pa could i buy an active monitor where i directly go in and with annother signal i go in the pa?
hey a bud o mine bought one used about a month ago. he played it a gig last night and it DIED!! you would not believe how peed off he was!!!!!! its out of warranty and its dead. lights come on but nothing. no display or sound. kind of sucks since he spent close to full price for it. yours ever conk out?
not yet. no problems whatsoever. But, with any piece of gear, its a good idea to have a backup, especially if you're a working pro. I am saving up for a 2nd one just for that reason.
How Long have you been using it? I have one and haven't used it yet...How do you like it? Do you think it would be good for pa too or just guitar? How does it sound in your opinion? Thanks!
did you try out the pod x3? on a scale from 1 to 10 (10 the best) how much would you give the axe fx and how much the x3? and: in terms of fx quality is the axe fx better than the tc unit you had?
Well, the X3 is a good modeller, I myself have one and it does its job, but you can't even remotely compare it to an Axe Fx. Simply put, it's the best modeller ever made to the date (no TC or H&K product, such as the ZenTera, can come close, though they give it a run for his money).
sold the PSA-1 and also the G-major. Although I suppose I should have kept them as a backup but I used the funds to help subsidize the cost of the AxeFX Ultra.
thank you for not playing any u2. i've been really curious about these things since people rave about them being cutting edge modeling, but from the demos on youtube, it seems like people just buy it to sound more like the edge!
I noticed a lot of hiss when the preset involved any kind of gain. Doesn't seem any better than the ART SGX-2000 I had back in 1995. Sorry not too impressed with it. Nice demo anyways.
I've owned an SGX-2000 and this is no comparison. Yeah there was hiss but i also didn't have noise gate enabled. Realize that the hiss was intentional as the axe fx was 'modelling' a high gain amplifier - which will hiss anyway at high gain settings.
hey guys, malto here. i just posted some videos of me playing this live, DI to the PA mixer. i posted a video response above (band videos are under a different account) so check that out and you can listen to the other videos from there.
GREAT demo. First user demo that is helpful. What do you think of the amp sims, drive sims on this unit? Can it really compete with the real deal amps and effects? I own some really nice pedals and would love know how this thing truly holds up. Are the tones tube like warm or are there shades of the coldest of the digital processing? Very interested in your thoughts as you seem a reliable source and i am considering buying this unit. Thanks in advance.
yes, all stock presets. i actually had cab sim turned on by accident (there's option to globally overide preset cab sims) . i didn't realize that until after i recorded this demo (and didnt feel like re-recording one at that point).
with cab sim off (and running thru real 2x12 cab) it sounds even better than what you hear. its like a wet blanket has been removed now.
will post more clips in future, as i've only seen a few decent youtube vids on this.
Are you recording direct, using the MosValve or something else?

Why did you choose to use a mosvalve instead of a tube power amp?
chicagofreedommoveme 2 years ago
light weight, smaller size, voiced for use with guitar rigs.

I would not use it for PA - it colors sound too much. For guitar its great but for PA you want a very neutral sounding amp.
maltomario 2 years ago
@maltomario by good for pa, does he mean axe fx straight into a pa mixing board setup for a live setup?

Let's say one of the digital tube algorythms dies, can you just replace it with a regular 6L6 or will you have to install a new firmware entirely?
Abjauchgrube 2 years ago
i'm pretty sure you have to use a 6v6, the 6L6's plate voltage is way too high compared to the algorithm.
