  • mal keine sanften Celloklänge von ihm, einfach klasse.

  • brilliant!

1:24 - 1:27 Great moment, perfect timing. Little camera zoom-in ampliffies it...

That guy could be Serj Tankians father btw

  • Beautiful instruments, beautiful performers!

  • I wonder what he was saying at the beginning.

  • maisky smokes weed

  • Maisky always makes me like songs I otherwise wouldn't like so much. ^^

  • @arcdbeach I said THE best ,I know he's one of the best tho ..

  • Mischa is the reason I'm taking up the cello ,I haven't seen another with as much power & raw emotion as him .

I don't know why people criticize ;he's obviously na the best out there ,but it's all about how he affects his crowd .

I think that's what makes someone great `being able to change a 14 year old girl's life ,being the reason she found something to live for ;changing the importance of music to her forever .

I just hope that one day I can touch someone's life the way he touched mine .

  • @minimacknx3 Uh, he is too one of the best out there.

  • @minimacknx3 hey, ditto :) I took up cello after hearing lots of his stuff.

  • I have seen him alive in cervantino festival last year...

he actually sounds much more better live and its the greatest of our time

i swear his interpretation its charming

  • only a cello can play and represent the power of the fire like that way

  • so impressive to sound as good as that in that acoustic. pretty fearless

  • Manuel de Falla was crazy too and a genius too. Extreme ttheme. Fire is an extreme thing.

  • HE IS A SERIAL KILLER!!

    DIOS!

  • this is amazing!

  • este hombre está loco

  • @philiprichardson: I'm a grumpy old man and I love this. Please don't stereotype us!

    :)

Seriously though....what difference does it make what the artist wears? Just close your eyes and enjoy.

  • for those who has their own intellectual independancy, instead of listening this bad interpretation, I recommand to listen (on youtube) of Alexandre Lagoya. He is spanish origin and was in connection with Manuel de Falla, so the chances that he is playing the piece of music with the rigth concepts, are much greater ... This does not demonstrate that Maisky is not a bad artist : but that he did not studied enough de Falla ... and understood his Fire dance

  • Sex

  • @Berdjum I think this a beautiful interpretation and I don't think Mischa Maisky has the ability to assassinate ANY piece of music, thank you very much. And you are very vague...does not understand the essence? Some musical vocabulary would be helpful for us to understand what you mean.

  • @ravelabcd0 no, i mean not played like a robot.

  • technically perfect,

not my favorite, but maisky is a world class performer.

it wouldn't matter if it's not my favorite or not, it's still an incredible performance.

  • Watching this guy makes me want to practice my fucking ass off! Only now do I realize how far I have to go!

  • its in tenor clef but does go a little into treble, someday I'll be able to play it haha XD but its an amazing piece and hes an awesome cellist.

  • owfull

  • OMFG! that was freaking weird... but pretty awesome!!!!! OMG (L)

  • bravo!!!

  • 1:52 - I'm no cellist, but that is damn high! Violin territory!

  • @AttemptingToBeBusy That's why he's mostly playing on the A string!

  • @AttemptingToBeBusy That's why Mischa mostly plays on his cello's A string! This piece for solo piano is really hard. The pianist here is playing with a lot passion and she is really hot :)

  • @AttemptingToBeBusy you think that it's high? Then listen to the first movement of the Haydn Celloconcerto D-Major or to the end of the Sinfonia Concertante by Prokofiev!

  • @Pricher1991 easy man, that is Not a competition, is music

  • @Pricher1991 A better example of a REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEALYYYYY high note on the cello would have to be the first movement of the Kodaly Cello Sonata.

  • mischa maisky is the sex

  • @cbrashawnm lol :)

  • his interpretation is so raw - i love it :)

  • I love mischa miasky he is the one of the best cellists around today his playing is passionate but yes he is flat just a little bit but he makes up for it with his skill and I also think that if you look closely at the end the bow had a loose hair to by the meaning of how hard he was playing it I really like this piece and he did a very good job with it a job well done ^_^

  • Although there is a lot of great feeling and a beautiful tone, he is rather out of tune (flat ) in the beginning after the initial pizz.

  • @ThePizzadawg hahahahahaha

  • Comment removed

  • I agree, i really love his musicality. It captures.

  • the necklace rapresents the twelve tribes of Israel, Mischa is jewish ;)

  • some hair fell off of his bow

  • siento q rompera el cello :S.. pero puuf... algun dia tocare asi ha. claro.................¬¬

  • i like it, i like his musicality, at least he's not afraid to show feeling

  • although the sound quality on this recording isn't great, I don't think you can complain about what someone looks like if he plays the piece well. What's wrong with performing music wearing clothes you normally wear (there's nothing 'showbusiness' ablout this video) if everyone wore suits ALL the time it might get boring.Being a good musician is about communicating the music to people. To write good comments on here however you might want to be a bit more open-minded and less à la grumpy-old-man

  • can you play like that? film your best attempts at playing any instrument and lets see how you do.

  • @orvoon007:

That's not all there is to music. Yes, be idiosyncratic and yourself, by all means! Advertise nothing if you feel that advertising is dismal. To be a musician is not this, however. I think you're missing the point. To be a musician, rather than an entertainer you must create music (music derives from muse, look at the etymology of the word) that speaks to your own soul and (hence) to the souls of those who listen to the muse(ic) that you produce. Music is much, much more, my friend.

  • @orvon007 what does that even mean "today there is no more music?" There may not be any music that YOU like, but that does not make it any less music. I actually dont like this interpretation of the piece very much. I think it is, as you say, alittle too flashy, but it IS still music.

To make a statement such as yours betrays your entire lack of understanding of the concept.

  • @orvon007

"His clothes, whatever is the necklace is part of advertising system."

    It's a tee-shirt for fucks sake.

  • oh wow! he's great.

also, i wonder what that necklace means? he seems to wear it all the time.

  • cool, er spricht deutsch :D

  • haha i like his shirt

and that looks like fun to play

im nowhere NEAR that good though =/

  • Wow is all I can say. The man can do it all!

  • Uff. me enkantaaaaa

  • Very sloppy cello playing

  • if you ask me that is a compliment

  • this is a side of Maisky Ive wanted to see for a while. Marvelous performance by both cellist and pianist.

  • SUPER!!!

  • im playing this song for my marching band yr

  • what school do you march with?

  • iroquios high

  • Mischa Maisky just keeps getting better and better!

    BRAVO!!

  • excellent, I love it..

  • Mischa Maisky is a better showman due to his extreme emotive playing. Even though he tends to romanticize his music, the passion within the sound alone makes his interpuretations attractive.

  • pssshhhhh

  • Great!

  • 3:42 look at that bow hair lol. That always happens to me when I really get into the music and just go crazy. I absolutely love this piece!

  • Truely amazing. My instructor told me to look this up. COOL!!!!

  • hes good but webers great

  • Wow! What a fantastic Cellist!

    Amazing.

  • god i love this guy. The edie van halen of cellists indeed. He is so emotional when he plays, i love it.

  • what a legend, such an brilliant artist !

  • HOLY CELLO

  • This is even more dramatic and passionate than Rubinstein's famous interpretation!

  • This interpretation is superb, full of passion and originality.

  • maybe he did. so what?

  • lol i got -6 thumbs for that funny comment

ppl have a bad sense of humour, or they perceive that these comments should be conceived from a non-humourous straightforward perspective

  • so funny how his bow is broken at the end...

  • I believe this is an imperfect but still greatly masterful performance, full of vigor and enthusiasm.

You have my respect Mischa! More so than Yo Yo Ma for sure.

  • the hair of his bow you mean..I was waiting in anticipation to his bow break...lol

  • if this was 2004 then when did he tap the Bach cello suites??? Can anyone tell me when he tapped the suites couse id like to know...

  • Maisky recorded two bach cello suites; one in 1994 (?) and 2002(?).

  • Ignorante

  • a no faltaba el pendejo.

  • i love Maisky.

  • he's great at playing cello, but i think it is not the best interpretation of that piece...

  • KARIN, KARIN!!!!!

  • Perfection he is a true master of the Cello

  • Kovachian, i'm sorry for: "what a shit!!!". It's a bad expression. I love De Falla!... Please, accept my apologises!

  • INCREDIBILE!!! GENIALITA' INNATA

    E.Rita Galeoni

  • I like the interpretation I dont' know what people are complaining about.

  • Karin Lechner´s the best!:-)

  • In answer to the critics I would say this is a masterful performance full of passion and original interpretation. Of course, it's bound to lack resonance - it's not in a concert hall with perfect acoustic and sound technicians enhancing every note - it's in a club packed full of people and this would make the acoustic very dry. I like it - it's raw and passionate and authentic.

  • sounds like a cat with sore throat, and out of tune....

  • can you imagine how hard it is to play in there? good made, Mischa!!!

  • es hermosoos buenisimo!!!

    ese tipo es muuy buenoo:).

julian lloyd webber no demuestra muchaa pasion

como creo q misha maisky muestra

    excelente:)

  • what a shit!!! mischa, is not heavy metal, man! bad, very bad interpretation! (sorry for my English)

  • You are an idiot. You should be apologizing for more than just your English.

  • it's only my opinion. you are such a "smart" guy!!!

    you are just a nationalist!

  • This looks extremely hard to play!

I guess I respect anyone who has mastered their intrument... this performance was amazing

  • why pianists = 0?

  • exeptional, music is music and it dont care if they were playing at a lounge or at a hall

  • sacrilegio

  • insomma...

  • I like more the way that julian lloyd webber, plays it....

  • i did not know that he speaks german

  • he looks totally funny with his hair swirling around

  • Looks like a rehearsal?

  • I think he did a fine job...

The coolest thing though is where he is playing it. In the middle of a club. This is so good for classical music.

I'm not crazy about most of his work. For instance his Saint Saens is very weak. I have no desire to hear his Haydn. I think he is meant to play works like these.

  • and for your information: when this was filmed at yellow loung the club (no concert hall!) was really packed, quite smoky and the acoustics in the place were far from perfect for classical music.

  • I respect maisky for his mastery of the cello. But in this video is different, he does not play like this usually. Maybe musically but not technically. Maybe something came up. And i agree with you about people giving bad comments not even thingking of the reasons why this performance is like this.

  • for me it's very suprising to see how heated & often insulting the discussion/comments about this piece have become since i posted it. makes me wonder how stuck up their own a*** some fans of classical music are. i'm 'feeling' the piece - although i must admit that i can't really comment on maisky's interpretation as i'm no expert.

  • There has to be a reason why this happened...

  • Be quied!!

He is one of the best Celloplayers

  • not good...

    -----------

Manuel would be proud of this interpretation, in his music like in flamenco or blues the tecnic is less important than if you show or not your soul in the piece. I am from his town and this video has shaken me, thanks for post it :)

  • I agree.. he should've been high during this concert, or whatever it was... out of tune and missed so many notes....

  • You need a real pianist!!!

  • Why you said that??? I´m pianist and i think she made a very good job.

  • I agree fully with the answer that cotalech sent you. I myself am a pianist as well, and, by the way, I remember Karin Lechner very well from the master class with Nikita Magaloff I took part in. She was 17 at the time, and was a stunning talent!!

  • Let's try Julian Lloyd Webber for this piece

  • Fantastic! I love this piece and I want to play this!!!

  • I don't understand Spanish but, really, it's unbearable the way how Maïsky plays. Out of tune, bad sound, musicality without deepness.... At the end, he can't do the scale, then he does glissando............. :D

  • I agree. It is pretty awful.

  • Get a life!

  • puffff

  • gota love maisky
