In all the years that I've been immersed in watching classic films --and even studying film history-- I never once heard the name W.C. Fields. . . it was always Chaplin, Harold Lloyd, the Marx brothers and all the rest, but never W.C... . Seems like all the others get more attention than he does. . . Who knows. . .maybe it's just me. . . Thanks to Woody Allen, I now love W.C. Fields.
If you can check out James Curtis' Book On "The Great Man"..most recent book and the best ever called simply "W.C. Fields"...Grand flick..thx for posting!
This is such a gem. It is so low key, yet so many gags are clandestinely packed into it that you don't even realize you've been laughing ceaselessly the entire time.
athough i am 24 i grew up on WC Fields Films. My favorite is [you're tellin me] My father was a HUGE WC fan. He used to tell me as a little child "go away kid, you bother me" its a very nice memory i have of my dad and everytime i see Mr Fields films it makes me remember my dad.... thanks for this clip.
Yeah, I've got pretty much the same story, I think W.C., like the Marx Bros. or Chaplin etc. would cross generational lines and people would love them as much now if only they saw these. At least we've got you tube.
tank you so much for posting. you provided me with a thoroughly enjoyable evening. i saw this at the theatre when i was little and it was startling how much came back to me. what a classic comedy genius mr fields was, and he didn't have to obscenely pander to anyone. imagine how filthy this movie would be if ANY of today's "comedians" remade it.
Thanks BB, I'm glad you appreciared it. Did you see the whole picture? I put it all up here as I am so frustrated with the distributers who can't be bothered to release motft as a dvd. I only found it to buy from a company called "five minutes to live" who supply all sorts of weird stuff that may well otherwise dissapear from the world. I think it's not his masterpiece as some would have it but it has some fantastic moments that deserve to be seen.
Fields [in the Uk] is unavailable apart from the Short,s. This Evening I plonked myself down and found "Flying Trapeze" I have seen bits of it but never the whole shebang. Brilliant!!!
As a member of the NFT/BFI I see lovely things but nobody seems to be able to explain why Fields is generally inaccesible GDS
Thanks! Loved it!!!
