The Shenmue II version of Hang-On was much harder than the real arcade version. I think the original Shenmue version was closer to this. Great game anyway.
Yep - the good old days and their charmy games: OutRun, Super Hang On, Chase HQ, Rolling Thunder, Boxer King, Golfing Greats, Gold Medalist, Zaxxon, R-Type, Power Drift, Karate Champ...
It's pretty amazing that you did that, it must have taken a few takes, once I completed it I never tried again, but surely you were not commentating whilst playing? you were way too calm, sure you can be calm for the bulk of it, but the last stage things get so edgy especially if you have been there 60 times and you know what is coming next....crash
@Rnt911 Absolutely man. Sega was incredible, and I'm about this biggest Fanboi there can be. Having said that, now that Suzuki Yu has "retired" and Sammy owns them now, they are a shadow of their former self. But good heavens did they push arcade technology forward. I will always love Sega, and it's amazing how ignorant the general gaming public is to their greatness. I do what I can to take care of that, one gamer at a time. :)
They made a motorcycle sit down arcade of this. But the whole life size bike had to tilt left and right, it was ridiculous because it was like the worlds biggest joy stick
@TheGreatCorneliuski I wonder how hard this would be with the real motorcycle hardware. I mastered OutRun on the emulators, but to have the sit-down car with the machine moving left and right (certainly easier than Hang On, but it still must be distracting), it's gotta be harder...
exelent run ! i never was able to finish the orginal arcade game. i don't have it on mame, but with a digital controller i think makes it even more harder than it is. thanks for the tip tough, not to use the brakes, but just lift off the accelerator. i will try this on the megadrive version of super hang on.
When it was first revealed in Japan, Yu Suzuki said that people were "so shy, I was told they would never 'straddle such a thing'. At the first test site, the developers' kids were there. It had a large gallery of people. At first, no one would ride it. So when they saw someone riding it, they all would start doing it. There were others who were silent. I said it was okay and 'please ride it'. They kind of understood it."
He also said "I rode a bike. When you're falling off the bike, you crank the axel you'd rise. It's really like a gyro. I wanted to try cranking the axel like this, but I wasn't allowed to on courses. Sound is really important. In the end I asked to enter a real 50 cc engine. Because of the price I had to give that up."
This was the world's first experiencing game. Shaped like a real bike, it felt like a real race. It revolutionized game centers of the time. Yu Suzuki created it, because he said "back then sometimes I would see delinquents in the game centers. I wondered if there were a way to draw such lively people to game centers."
not a bad narration ! i usually HATE 'em.......but you did a good job at narration ! polite addressal of the game and technics to play......... i was pleased..........ty.
Try playing this game as a 6 year old kid trying to move a multi-hundred-pound plastic motorcycle-type-thing with a an arcade screen on the front of it - even though you're body mass is about one-tenth of the weight of the entire contraption.
I was always in pure awe on how powerfull Sega's arcade boards where compared to home game systems. Even when the Genesis was released in 1989with it's Motorola 68000 c.p.u., it still couldn't faithfully reproduce Sega's arcade boards(system 16) of 1985. Sega was the champion of arcade technology during the entire arcade era with the most sophisticated technology and the most innovative games. I realized that quickly even thou I was only 8 years old. Sega will always be number 1 in my mind.
I have to admit that I grew up on Sega, but really, I love the peaceful flavor of Nintendo. Something about Nintendo games feel more soft and nice and friendly -- Mario 2 / Mario 3 ... Popeye...Ice Breaker...Balloon fight...
@1czelaya Couldn't have said that better myself! I'm on the same wavelength as you there, that's for sure. System 16 was just amazing. Years later I made a PC game demo of an OutRun style of game (called Full Tilt) that had many more sprites than the original arcade (in 1999 on a 66 MHz 486, which could handle this easily), and someone walked in and asked if it was a NES. I got mad. I was finally replicating beyond System 16 power, and someone thought it was a Nintendo Entertainment System. :/
hang-on easy because only 3 different levels of drift. you bad yankee player. you buy shenmue on dreamcast then you play better. you need training then you can try hadouken.
I love this game. I actually own the original Hang On arcade racer with the red bike. Its second hand offcourse and the throtle and break dont work, but it accelerates automaticly. I will have it fixed tho, need to find the right stuff.
I played this game late in the day, namely on Shenmue (and even I got that recently) but the gameplay just blew me away. It's so fun and can go pretty fast in places. Hard to believe it's so old.
yes play thre game with out taking i love the music and your very good eric please make a new video without taking the music rules at the end wene you enter your name intuls allso havea ncie day eric

hang on will all ways be my fav sega game in the world i hope it get ported on psps on sega nexy classics games i hope i love to put t music from hang on on my psp
I've been playing this game for YEARS and i finally defeated it ( at least the upright version ha ) for the first time recently in an arcade in New Hampshire. you are right in saying you need a crashless run; you ran the first three stages cleanly and you still were five seconds off the starting time. i had actually seen a version of this someone can beat this game ( and EnduroRacer ) they can boast a bit :)
god this is my fva sega game in the wolrd your very good i what to get a sitdown one i love the music at the end wean you put your name on it wish it get ported on psp sega classic 2 if it comes out
i was the king of this and super hang also lollllllllll got to love the 80's

I wish they could release this on todays system. Did you know that this was done by the same man who gave us Out Run and Chase HQ?
