  • nope, figures 8's are not needed.

  • where is ur figure 8 when you did your heel locks did you do your figure 8 to

  • Thanks for your very clear video. I've sprained my ankle while running about 10 days ago (I think the anterior talofibular ligament). It's still a bit swollen and the skin temperature is slightly higher than on my other ankle. I've done two runs afterwards (3 miles and 5 miles, no pain or discomfort in my ankle) wearing an ankle brace. I was wondering about the following: is it better/safer to tape my ankle using the method in your video instead of wearing the brace?

  • Great video, was able to tape my own ankle after watching and kept my ankle strong during my football game. Thanks!

  • whats the point of having the black color on the side of the tape

  • @pattylax32 just to be able to see the overlap and where the tape goes better

  • Will this tapejob work for tumbling and gymnastics if I have a sprained ankle?

  • i horseback ride, and need a great amount of dorsiflexion, but at the same time have a lot of problems with inversion. how could i modify this to allow for dorsiflexion?

  • In the Video I noticed that you did not put the fuigure 8 why is that. In sports med when wrapping an ankle we were tought to use the figure 8

  • What brand of tape do you use? And do you know were i can order some in bulk online? thanks

  • to the runner with the hurt ankle:

if your ankle is hurt that badly, you shouldn't tape it. tensor it well and you can tape it hen you can walk on it with minimal pain, the tape will help when you run, but worsen it if you tape it when your ankle is still tender.

  • im a runner, felt a pain about mile 7 but continued to 9. went home and almost limping. is this a sprained ankle and will this method allow it to heal and afterwards be able to run with the tape on? and how long should the tape be left on before irritation or when taking shower? thanks for the great video!

  • i'm a soccer player and from time to time i have problems with ankle...

can you tell me what are the names of prewrap and tape you used?

could i use ordinary elastic bandage instead prewrap?

    thx a lot

  • @backflip2534

    prewrap, by Johnson and Johnson

  • why dont u use figure 8's when you do a ankle tape?

  • @Zumabafoo

they are not needed. this tape job is stable without the fig. 8's. they only prevent dorsi and plantar flexion. I want the athlete to move plantar and dorsi. The heel locks prevent inv. and eversion.

  • So helpful. Thank you.

  • Was there also a figure 8? or did you do the heel lock and figure at once?

  • @wendy9871 no fig. 8's. not needed.

  • @liverdaddy what kind of tape is this?

  • Is this the same taping you would do for an athlete recovering from a high ankle sprain?

  • @pksadboy most likely.

  • I play soccer and I find this way to tape the most useful, although I don't do four heal-locks because it limits my flexibility and ability to dribble the ball too much.

I only do two. Can you give me some pointers for soccer players as we rely on our feet/ankles way more than other sports.?

  • @deathcoder

sorry for the delay. I use this tape job daily with soccer players. and once they are warmed up they are fine.

  • too fast

  • you put to much you cant take it off

  • Thank you so much for posting this video. It was extremely helpful in recovering from a bad sprain.

  • Im a student trainer and i had a question how do you deal with tendonites in knee???

  • @raegangirl7089

sure, I would just need more information to assist, do you mean tendonitis of the patella?

  • Great job! Video's are very informative. Thank you very much

  • welcome

  • Great Video! Couple of questions, I live in the uk and its pretty hard to get good quality tape. Is zinc oxide tape suitable for this purpose or do you recommend more elastic tape. Also I have a history of both inversion sprains and high ankle sprains is this method suitable for both?

  • @mauhdk

yes zinc oxide will work, I think you will be happy with this tape job for your issues, try it.

  • Livergood!! Its Peter, I played baseball there a couple years ago. Anyways, your video helped me pass my taping final. Thanks man.

  • @Bruinballer41

    welcome!

  • I wasjust woundering, i have sprained my ankle twice, would this be a good way of helping my injury when i go backto doing sport , i am a gymnast. Also where would it be possiable to get pre wrap. And what tape are u using secound of all :). Thanku

  • Yes, I taped gymnast in college and it worked fine for them, prewrap should be at most sporting goods stores, the tape is J&J athletic tape I think it is the best. Good Luck

  • for how long can i keep it on and can i sleep with it will it not affect the blood stream

  • I usually take it off after I finish my workout/sport etc. If you want to sleep with it on probably be ok. I bet it might be a bit smelly after you workout though. So your roommate or family might not like your company. I would just take it off.

  • do u know where can i get cheap tape ??

  • any sporting goods store, walmart etc

  • I sprained my ankle last year ans i still have slight ankle pain when i play sports. would it help if i kept taping my ankle be for games?

  • It might, give it a try it should make it more stable

  • does ankle taping works for soccer?????

  • Are you using zinc oxide for the whole tape job? Isn't it better (for blood flow) to use elastic adhesive bandage for the anchors and cover taping??

  • I like to think it is better than zinc oxide, I don't have any issues with blood flow, If you don't have stable anchors it just falls down. You can experiment with it see if you find something better. This is still the best way to do it in my opinion.

  • what is better lace up brace or taping ankle?first time i tried to tape it i can feel the tight cause i cant move mah ankle like mah first time to tape it.....and i cant really sprint fast if its taped...so can you answer mah question pls?cuz im planning to buy a laced if better.....

  • I like to tape it, but it is very hard to tape yourself. You might be better with an ankle brace, they give decent support and it is much easier to put on and cheaper to use if you plan on needing it for awhile. Good Luck

  • how far up on the leg do you start your anchors for optimal support? is there a guideline for that?

  • The guideline is the bottom of the calf muscle.

  • Awsome!

This has helped me a lot. Although initially I struggled with it as a DIY job...

But now I find this to be the most confortable yet effective technique.

    Thank You!

  • So, I finally got around to trying this out on myself and ended up using almost the whole roll (standard size roll). Does that sound right?

  • It usually requires about 3/4 of a roll depending on the brand and the length of the roll.

  • Thanks a lot for this slower version!

  • i thought it might help, your welcome.

  • Awesome tape job.....very nice fluidlike motion. Both ankle videos helped me get ready for my practical exams. Thanks for posting! Couple of questions......

    1. Planning on posting other tape jobs? Knee? Shoulder? Wrist?

    2. Does it matter on the type of tape that is used? Is one better than the other?

  • i might knee probably, shoulder and wrist probably not.

What type of tape, I like J&J brand tape, elasticon would make it more stable yet I only use this for a really bad ankle.

  • Maybe a knee, i like to use Johnson & Johnson tape it is a high quality tape but you may use others.

  • Your video is excellent, it really helped me. I'm still practicing but thanks for this you're great.

  • 21,

your welcome, I glad it helped that 's why i did this video I thought it might be better than the first one, a bit slower.

  • what sort of tape do you use? here in australia the only type i can seem to find are these fabric material type tapes. yours looks different.

  • the kind of athletic tape we use here is made by johnson and johnson (coach brand) a large company know for baby products, and athetic medicine products. you might check their web page. it is sticky (adhesive) but cotton based material. i hope this helps

  • what about the figure eights?

every trainer video i watch is different from what my employer and co-workers teach me in office.

im a student athletic trainer btw.

  • solid,

I don't see a need for figure 8's, 90% of ankle injuries are inversion and that is what I focus on in my video. I'm not interested in wasting tape. While everyone has a different technique I feel very comfortable with the security or my tape job w/o the figure 8's just heel locks are needed.

  • Great work

  • you're truly great at this!

  • Thanks
