god I love this guys music. He fits so closely with my favorite artists... Mark Mulcahy, Jeff Mangum, Colin Meloy, Daniel Johnston, John Darnielle... if you like this guy and haven't heard of some of those others check them out. You won't be disappointed!
@mojoteq@mojoteq And? I suggest you watch the Devil and Daniel Johnston since you appear to be one of those people who've only heard a song or two, pitch a fit about his voice, and not realize how many mental illnesses he suffers from. -.-
@baraka1408 Nope, I've heard a good deal of his stuff after watching the documentary. I don't understand the appeal. Yes, his stuff is raw emotion spurred on by being mentally ill, but I do not see how that makes it good. If you don't use mental charity to consider "how many mental illnesses he suffers from," is his stuff still good when it stands on it's own? I contend that it doesn't. Daniel Johnston apologists even say that although he could play piano, his guitar was abysmal.
@mojoteq If you don't use mental charity to consider "how many mental illnesses he suffers from," is his stuff still good when it stands on it's own? I think it does. And his art. To each his own. I wasn't using his mental illness to compensate for his musical ability. It stands on its own.
Incredible. Thank you, Eef, for being on the earth at the same time I am.
