Gosh that Ricardo was a cool dude indeed! :) I love this song. Remember learning it at primary school and we did all the actions...hit the floor and crawl to daddy he he.....
but I tell you what there is no way i would have thought it was from Sweet Charity though! I thought it came from HAIR....
This version of Sweet Charity's "The Rhythm of Life" is much better!!! With Ricardo Montalban in this song, it becomes one class act!!! I would like to see more of these acts in the near future!
As usual, Ricardo Montalban is a class act. He does a great job with this. Who is the other guy? He seems to be doing a bit of a "googly" job singing and moving around whereas Ricardo moves and gets into it in a smooth and suave way (like everything else he did in his career.) I love the way he shakes someone's hand at the very end. It is said he always had nothing but nice things to say about those he worked with. The world needs more class acts like he was!
But, but, he wasn't in this scene in Sweet Charity. And, and, his scene was set in an upscale party, but had a completely different song and dance. This scene should have hippies. Weird.
The featured song and dance in Monteban's scene was The Rich Man's Frug.
I suppose it would have been less family hour, variety show-y, less Lawrence Welk-y to have done this song with counterculture hippies interrupting good clean happy WASP entertainment so they cleaned it up and made it more palatable for their audience out there in TV land.
However, people in fancy evening dress on a ballroom set singing out pantheistic religion and counterculture is very odd to say the least.
Beautifully choreographed and has charm by the bucketful but check out the original from the film with Sammy Davis Jnr if you want the darker version with a much more satirical edge.
Whatever RICARDO MONTALBAN performs HE is ALWAYS most charming and fascinating HOT !!! Thanks for sharing. PLz post more on RICARDO and plz let me know THANXXXX
Some rhythm-love for un-rhythmic Dean Jones unnamed in these comments, who is the last entertainer I can imagine singing the un-Bowdlerized lyrics.

You are right, but the question is not comparing Sammy's performance to Ricardo's.

I finally figured out that the other guy was in the Love Bug Movie and Herbie goes to Monte Carlo... Still not as suave as Don Ricardo! ;o)
