I answered that even if i translated the lyrics she could not understand. The spirit of this song goes beyond the lyrics and music; it speaks straight to the soul.

  • An excellent story-teller. One of the best !

  • @DeedleDeedleDumplin THE best

  • @oesaki OK, if you insist (and because I honestly cannot think of another great storyteller in the music industry...at least one that is as good as Cohen). I do enjoy Tom W, though.

  • @DeedleDeedleDumplin How about Jim Croce....

  • lucky girl, it's pitty my name it's not Suzanne so when I went to his concert in Nice (france) he didn't sing for me :-(

he is very good !!!!!!! :-))

  • angels must have whispered him this song..

  • This is only one of his songs that I love. He stretched out to us with his beautiful person poety wit and fun. We went to Him in Ireland 2010. I felt I was in the presence of somebody that had reached bliss. An Irish fan

  • there was a cool video on this but the I guess corporate nazis removed it

  • this song is very good and nice

  • ♥♥♥!!!

  • I am a huge Leonard fan, but this is one song that others have done better. Number one version is by Neil Diamond. Now don't start throwing things at me you Leonard groupies. Just do yourself a favor and listen to Suzanne by Neil Diamond

  • @johthor For many years, the Neil Diamond cover was the only version I knew, and I always LOVED it. So beautiful. But now that I know more Cohen and I have seen several of his performances of it, I love those too. There's nothing like the creator's own presentation of a song. Cohen songs get better ever times you hear them or read the lyrics because of the poetry. He paints such rich, inspiring pictures with his words.

  • nice movie..watched this in webmovietube for free

  • Love the imagry in this song; that's the only part I remember of it from when it first came out. Luckily, later in my life, I learned more about Leonard Cohen's music and he's one of my favorite songwriter/singers.

  • I love him

  • I too am crying. I witnessed his gracious gift in Portland two nights ago. Although I sat among thousands of strangers, I was there, with only him, his band, and the most beautiful woman I've ever known. She shared we me this man's lifework and purpose.

I know now that part of mine, is to love her. And I will, evermore.

    Thank you Sandra.

    Todd

  • I knew this song back in the 60s.

Any woman or christian who 'loves' this song is really silly.

Leonard knows, and so do I.

  • This VERY DEEP.

  • OH MY GOD, i never knew this song exsited i've heard the Plan B remix and i thought he had jus made it up, that's so weird

  • thi song, sung by LC, has never failed to soften my heart and bring moisture to my eys. Brilliant writer, brilliant singer, brilliant performer.

  • Some things are just perfect and there's nothing more to be said about it.

  • I've allways loved this song... now i understand why

  • love this man

  • my day just got a bit of meaning back :)

  • MY NAME IS SUZANNE !! I love hearing songs about my name !! :O)

  • Sighhhhhhhh..... I love Leonard Cohen.

  • this most talented man, the beautiful leanard cohen,

a wealth of imagination and desire, just love him

  • @downingr2 - YES! The song is evocative of a youth long gone - But how wonderful to see a man in his 70's still bringing his poetry and music to the world in this way. Indulge your precious memory and listen one more time...

  • not heard this for years but i still know the words,,,,ohhhhhhhhhh what menories

  • after all these years

    still so great

    so much soul

  • endangered species

  • Why on earth would anyone not encourage the learning of, and playing of music as art? Leonard Cohen is 76....and awesome.

  • gives me chills

  • Always been a favorite. I learned part of it on guitar, and I've broken out my harmonica trying to play the tune. This song has always spoken to me...

  • This beautiful poetry never grows old. It holds the mirror, even without the tea and oranges he touches me with his mind and his words. Makes you realize what is important.

  • nice

  • Divine....

  • too much leonard cohen is like too much pink floyd - they are musical genuises who make you FEEL, but you'll end up melancholic and you'll miss out on that girl you really want in life if you don't stop to remind yourself of that....and that will be a terrible cycle to get stuck in.

  • Tonight he´ll play here in Stockholm. Listening for one more time before I´ll get

to the fifth consert i will see. That´s my song - Suzanne - my real name - he will sing it just for me tonight . Now I´ve got to go! Meet you Leonard !!!

  • Yvonne... Thanks for introducing me to Cohen, in your flat in M/c. You let me share a flake of your life, I think of you quite often...

  • Gewoon te gek na al die jaaren nog steeds mooi goeie dingen koomen terug bynna menselyk thanks

  • nice

  • Increiblemente bello!!!!. cuando vendras a la argentina????

  • I know Cohen wrote it but Neil Diamond does it sooo much better. IMHO of course.

  • @magprob never in a million years... never never never!

  • Not many songss inspire a movie; very few singers inspire love.

  • Was this from the self titled record. (cover was the lady in fire)

  • I've only known this song in Dutch. I never knew Cohen was the original singer.

  • Speechless...he is an absolute genius and the most beautiful human being I haveever met...

  • beautiful man - beautiful song

  • @miredlin16 this song found me when i was 9 years old and has never left me.

  • I read this as a poem before i heard the song....leonard cohen changed my life, marks a certain place in my life that will never be forgotten.....

  • i love leonard, great!!

  • fantastic

  • i love this man like i love the lord, my pops, and neil young. :)

  • c'est magnifique paroles <3

  • Any doubt about there being no "real' music around anymore can be crushed in a single song. Go Cohen!

  • Great.

  • there is a jewish race as it was 'created' when the state of israel was, 1948. you can't have a country and not be part of that race?

  • @kidneybean43 Ok, so jews didn't exist before 1948? Please take your stupidity away from Cohen videos. And from the face of the earth also, if you like.

  • @kidneybean43 Actually, this is so stupid. Why are people fighting over jews? Everybody knows (yeah) that 'jew' is, besides from the religious aspect, a cultural attribute, that you have to be born into. Please stop.

  • I'm sure Leonard Cohen and Dustin Hoffman were separated at birth.

  • Canadian.

  • Leonard Cohen-A great Canadian music icon.

  • I WAS THERE!!! and I just saw my mum in the front row =p. Best concert ever and I'm 15 and been to loads including Muse and this was definitely the best even though I never really liked his music before. I felt like I'd known him for years and I just wanted to go up and shake his hand and tell him how amazing he was.

  • For being as Imaginative as Elegant.

    THANK YOU Mister Cohen !

  • His stare is so beautifully focused

  • I feel deeply ashamed Jimis 1821 comes from the same country as me...

  • cool!!

  • ΝΑΖΙ SHITHEAD ON SIGHT !

    Jimis1821 !!!!!!!!!

  • ?????????????????????????????????

  • 20th century's singing poet, marching into the 21st century...

may you be well, mr. Cohen !

  • @MrLizardisle

that stupid nazi Jimis1821 enjoys been spat at ! he's been following me in every music video making trashy comments and guess what he's getting, for that.! ..hahaha ! NAZI NINCOMPOOP !

  • @theo9952 - antisemitic racist jimis1821, being devastated that greece had such a collapse, that he's taken to listening to the idiotic ramblings of moronic talentless Jimmy Panousis

  • @musiconscious

what does greek economy have to do with this and what are you ?

  • @Jimis1821 because you're clearler so cultured as a human being, that you can write lyrics of the same calibur. Lyrics like Hallejujah, Democracy, Closing Time. You clearly have no concept of musical genius. Promoted by the Jewish system? Wow ignorant propaganda. And since he won The Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award this year, your opinion (as with most ignorant racists) is very pointless. Oh and Jewish isnt a race, its a religion. And if you wasn't ignorant, you'd know Cohen is Buddhist.

  • Jews are actually a race

it is a religion, but there is also a jewish race aswell....not all jews are of the jewish race though...

  • @casnernac

Being Jewish is not a race because Jews do not share one common ancestry or biological distinction. People of many different races have become Jewish people over the years. The original Jews were Hebrew, Judaism was there faith. If you can be a black jew, a white jew, a russian orthodox etc how can you be the same race?

  • over the past 100 years people have started converting mainly to religions that were not their fathers....

before then, jews would marry jews, christians marry christians ect....you can be a black jew, but not be off the jewish race

its a dodgy debate, but there is a Jewish race

    look it up;P

  • it's a complicated process to turn carbon into diamond, there are a lot of circumstances that catalyzes somehow carbon into the proper direction to diamond, to cut things short, Leonard found a shortcut, I think because he is a diamond made out of carbon

  • Comment removed

  • He reminds me of Bob Dylan - both are brilliant songwriters and poets and don't have great voices. But somehow I like Dylan's voice better.

  • strepitosa

  • Santa has a beard that's long & white!

  • He is amazing ... the lord and master of poetry and love songs. This is just beautiful - I love him!

  • Who has a beard that is long and white?

  • A true lesson in song and delivery by a genius of our time.

  • we all grow old but our juices can turn sour like venegar or even sweeter like the finest vintage wine. what a beautiful man

    you are old friend.

  • thank you achewood

  • Vercet1, should you live so long, some day you also will be a "gramps" but you will never have his talent or the insight to appreciate it. I am sorry for you.

  • we're doing a version of this song for winter guard and I love it. This is very different but I like it.

  • I was rushing through my day and accidentally happened upon this beautiful song by Mr. Cohen. As if by magic, I was deeply touched. My whole day will be more meaningful and special because of it.

  • @paulMcGlothin

    Well said!

  • I´m crying...thank you Mr. Cohen.
