@JTZORT1 - Yes there is a way, but it would be through custom coding or a component (but don't of any off hand). Joomla of course can have rating options, but it sounds like you need a score to be generated for each unique entry. This can be done with a little PHP custom coding, but not with Joomla "out-of-the-box".
@michaelcorelone, Cpanel is installed or housed by your hosting comapny. Joomla sits on this framework. You would install Joomla through Cpanel (fantastico), not cpanel into or through Joomla.
Wow, very cool. No need for JCE editor once you turn on extended. Makes you wonder why its not on extended by default.
Worked for me. I loaded my flash file by going to media manager, creating a folder in stories called flash, then clicked details view in the media manger to show the path. Then i copied and pasted the path into the article containing the flash movie.
@MrRyubusa, if it is an object with the object tags and your using the standard Tiny MCE, you may need to try to turn off your editor under Global Configuration, then go to the article and copy and paste. In other words what may be happening is your WYSIWYG editor is changing or altering your object tags and thus causing the code to break. Hope this helps.
Hi, I'm new to inserting Flash into Joomla 1.5.15. I do not have the icon for embedeed media in my new article screen. Could you let me know how I get to this?
lol I just left a comment in other of your tutorial asking for this icon that I dont see on my Joomla. I did what you explain and i have the new features to my editor...
This issue has been addressed in previous comments. Here is a copy of the answer.
Go to Extensions -> Plugin Manager -> Find Tiny MCE plugin.
Open this and at the top right is a drop down. Select the last one that says "extended" or "expanded". Save. Then go to an article and let me know what you see ;)
What Joomla version are you using? What WYSIWYG Editor are you using? Try adding the link to the video on this page and see if it gets the same error. I haven't heard of this error before. It sounds like an error that would be to a flash file or something, since flash applications use XML data to operate. Is the video url to a .swf file? Hope this helps, let me know.
Ahpgujung, Go to Extensions -> Plugin Manager -> Find Tiny MCE plugin.
Open this and at the top right is a drop down. Select the last one that says "extended" or "expanded". Save. Then go to an article and let me know what you see ;)
theres no save button on that page..that drop down box divides them into the categories each are already assigned to..so i can't change it for what it already is which is editors 2.0
It doesn't sound like you in the correct area. The drop down box field is called "Functionality" and the last option is called "extended". Is this what you are seeing? You should have a Save and Apply button at the top. If you want to send me a private message and give temp access I'll fix it for you. Hope this helps, let me know. :)
well i got TinyMCE 3.0 Series Plugin installed to my joomla..then i looked at making a new article..and absolutely no buttons for me to play with...that was very sad...what am i doing wrong people..please my god comment
i need those tools like that one your clicking to include a video why does everybody seem to be in on that...my article page is like NO buttons and shit
Great question. As of the latest versions of Joomla you need to go to your plugin manager and go the Tiny MCE 2.0 Plugin. In the parameters on the right near the top is a drop down box. Click and select the last option - should be "extended" or "expanded" (it's late). Doing this should then make your WYSIWYG editor show the "film strip" icon which is how you embed videos. The new Joomla versions make use of a newer editor and this extra step is required. :o Hope that helps.
Thanks for the question. If you are pasting code with the "object" or "embed" tags within it, then go to Global Configuration and turn Tiny MCE Editor OFF. Then go back to the page and past code. What's probably happening is your tags are getting removed/changed through having your html editor on. Otherwise if you have a path to the file you just place that in the pop up box for embedding video. DO NOT paste player code with embed tags here, the pop up box adds these 4 u. Did I help? :o
Hmmm.... Try going to your Cpanel or otherwise root directory where Joomla is installed. Find the file "configuration.php". if the permissions are set to 444 change them to 666. Let me know if this doesn't work though - as I'm not 100% certain this is the file to change for the editor. I haven't heard of your error before.
I did every thing you said on embeding my windows media video and it played in the film sripe box but when I save it and tried to view it in my joomla it didn't work. Could you please tell me why.
You can do this by making a page called index.html (which trumps the Joomla index.php). This page can have your flash intro, and when user type your URL the index.html page shows first (ie your flash intro) whcih should have a link to index.php (your first page in Joomla). Or you can use the article manager, and make a page that holds the same flash file. This will, however have the joomla template you are using surrounding the flash intro. Hope this helps :)
thanking you very much for all the lesson please tell me how can I add a button in flash button.

I am in the process of checking out all your videos - well done
MY QUESTION IS:
Is there a way to create a questionnaire with scoring?
An example would be - 21 questions with 4 options per question as answers. Each answer has a score (1pt - 4pts).
Is there a way to create a questionnaire with scoring for each question and then a total score at the conclusion of the questionnaire.
Thanks tons, - JT

I don't have the green filmstrip insert option in my joomla (which is provided by Godaddy).
I am have a hell of a time getting my .swf to stop looping and to be able to stop (period) w/o having to click another tab to make it stop.
I saw the looping option in your panel.
I have 1.5, I believe...what am I missing?
Thanks - this is an ongoing mystery that I would be very happy to solve.
THANKS!!!

I am currently using 'Jumi' to embed flash and video into articles.
At least it allows me to add multimedia any way I want, especially if you want to use javascript and swfobject.
