Not to mention, the doctor is not "scrubbed in", the assistant wiped the eye with guaze once? Not fully anesthestized and eye still twitching? I only watched the first 1min don't wanna watch anymore..
I think REMOVAL is the way to go IMO. I do however see that the dog is still extremely light on the anesthesia for eye SX,plus no intubation,No vital sign monitor?
This dogs nictitating membrane was removed, meaning his eye can't lubricate itself. He will suffer from dry eye syndrome, an uncomfortable and painful condition if not treated daily, for the rest of its life.
This is an old technique which to all intents and purposes should be consigned to the history books and only used where traditional pocket surgery is recurrently unsuccessful. 'Pocket' surgery is quick and relatively pain free and preserves the nictitating gland which provides some of the tear film as well as helping to fight infection in the eye.
I'm sorry. There is a link between removal of the glandular membrana nictitans and KCS, although the GMN only produces about 30% of the volume of tear fluid. Checked this with our veterinary ophthalmologist.
What is he doing, It is sin to remove the gland, Dog will for sure suffer from dry eye( Glands plays important role in tear prodution and he is cutting it. Sandy should have smacked on this fella's head, poor service to this animal.
You just have to burry it in with pocket technique- its simple,
@sunami13 Have u ever had a dog with this surgery done? I had in 3 of my dogs and never had a problem with dry eye.... NEVER !! THAT dog will be fine! well done DR.
@yiunie Removing the gland is not a factor for KCS. But surgical consensus is that this is the wrong procedure and carrying it out is considered a mistake. Lookup the Morgan Pocket Technique, especially with the Boevé modification.

omg it looks like it hurts, lol im hurting for the dog

It results in KCS, the lacrimal gland should never be removed, either a pocket procedure or tacking procedure should be used.
