@Rifalltoo There's a lot of games for the Mac, Steam even allows direct download of games for mac now. The problem is that Mac's don't support high end graphics cards. They don't support SLI or Crossfire. They don't support many propitiatory gaming standards like DirectX, Nvidia's Cuda and PhysX. No serious gamer is going to use a Mac if they lose all these features. And no developers are going to use open standards and lose the benefits of all these propitiatory development tools.

@arthmus01 True but dude you need to realize that Blizzard for the past 10 years are using macs to mostly create their games. They test and make their games on both Direct X and Open GL. I mean besides the coding and programing everything is created on macs, the whole art team (Warcraft, Starcraft, Diablo). Yeah I agree that their is no support for SLI/Crossfire, Nvidia's Cuda and PhysX, but Open GL is just as good as DirectX.

On the Autodesk 3ds Max website there's a video showcase from Blizzard about how they used 3ds Max for all their 3d work on WoW. 3ds Max is only available on Windows, and is one of the most popular 3d modelling software in the video game industry.

@yzak100 Also OpenGL is only a graphics API, comparable to Direct3d, which is one component of DirectX. There are open source alternatives for all DirectX components, like OpenAL for DirectSound, or OpenCL for DirectCompute. All written in different languages and all without support. For most game developers the convenience of having it all in one collection designed to integrate perfectly with eachother and fully supported by the manufacturer outweighs the cost.

I also know that Apple has a Different API that's based on Open GL, but it really isn't. I am sure apple know the fuss over the fact that steam is now for macs and that mac gaming is growing everyday. Maybe in Lion they will add a graphic engine that is all put together instead of scattered.

Not legally, and with complications. Apple would make naff all money selling OSX on it's own to install on any old hardware. They make their money on the hardware sales. Their current business model is VERY profitable. A study just came out that says they make 49% of every dollar spent on computers in the US. Quite impressive for a company who's OS share is only what, 5-10% (depending where you look). Those profit margins make their competition jizz their pants.

Software. OSX makes better use of the hardware than Windows does. You get more power for less hardware with a Mac. OSX is just superior at resource management. Think how Vista/7 need more power than XP to do the same tasks, same deal with OSX and Windows in general, they're just coded more efficiently (granted the time gap between releases comes into play with XP and Vista/7). An old G4 Mac can run Leopard (not Snow Leopard) perfectly fine, 2007 OS on 1999 hardware. Impressive optimisation.

you would have to ask a video professional who uses them on a daily basis. I haven't had the luxury to render and edit in HD on a Xeon 8 core/Quad core work station yet. However just from a quick test run at the Apple store for the 8 core Mac Pro running Final Cut, I re-rendered the Demo ad which is HD in the store and it crunched that thing in a matter of seconds. vs if it was my Dual core machine it would take me probably 5 minutes ish

Yeah but to do a fair comparison, you need to factor in the display. So basically, your system cost more than the equivalent iMac. The difference is your video card and an extra 2 gigs of ram. You can get the iMac up to 8gigs of ram for 200 more, which is still less than your price.

Pixar has and uses macs, just not for the render farm. Pixar still also uses Avid and Maya 64 bit (on Windows). I remember the 1980's when Pixar also used Amiga's around the time of Luxo Jr (Amiga was the _BEST_ video PC out there).

Windows sucks because Why? its compatible, has the best software available for it, and has been rock solid for me with Windows 7. on a mac you have limited software, and hardware available and performance is worse than Windows applications. your mac is mass produced like any oem Pc. There are Oem's that produce higher quality machines than Apple, and most of the time a good custom build will beat a mac in terms of quality, price, and performance.
