It's clear Floyd used an autologous transfusion the day after he cracked so spectacularly.
He had the bad luck that when his blood was removed and put in cold storage possiby months before the race, it was on a day where his testosterone levels were significantly different to those on the day of the test. It's not a positive test for testosterone, it's proof of an autologous transfusion - that's the loophole his lawyers were trying to exploit
How come no one comments that Oscar Pereiro the eventual winner of the TDF gained 30 minutes on the peloton which is alot more than the 6 minutes Floyd gains on his breakaway.
Pereiro was in a breakaway on a post-Pyrenee-stage where the peloton usually kicks back a bit and let a breakaway go.Not unusual that a group of riders way back in the classement can gain 20-30 minutes on the peloton on a day like that.Everybody expected Pereiro would lose the time he gained in the Alpes but he hung in there and fought his way to the podium...And he IS a decent climber
Actually I have all TDF from 1998 on and have seen them several times. The 2006 TDF was really strange because no one chased. The peloton did not chase after pereiro after giving him a huge gap which if you look at it increased from beginning to end till he got 30 minutes. On stage 17 again no one chased after Floyd, look at the video and the peloton is still cruising with 50K still to go. Pereiro's team never chased to bring the gap down.
Well "Giving away" the jersey to a rider not to be counted as a top favorite is sometimes part of tactics (Armstrong,Indurain and others did this too). Then your team are not forced to work hard to keep the jersey thereby saving the energy for later.
As for Landis´"Comeback" sure he was chased:Right from the beginning of his attack a handful of riders tried to keep pace but it was like mopeds trying to follow a Ferrari. The GC riders did´nt chase until later because they expected..
...Landis to blow up at some point. He did´nt so they were a little late getting a serious chase going. If i remember correctly C. Sastre had to give everything he got going solo over the last climb to diminish the timeloss.
Anyway:Noone in modern cycling can pull a stunt like Landis did.A "Superhuman" like Armstrong could´nt do it if he wanted to.I´m not one of those who thinks every pro is doped but that day it was just so obvious...I remember thinking:"Hope he gets caught"
Landis bonked/craked because of glucose exhaustion. During stage 16 he was mostly alone with no team-mates and probably did not get enough food and drink. On stage 17 every time they show Landis he is either drinking or eating all the way to the end with the car right next to him. Also the peloton under estimated Landis recovery and attitude. He went flat out because he had nothing to loose, if he cracked he lost nothing but went out in a blaze of glory.
Also Landis got away from the peloton after 65K. Unlike Rasmussen that broke away after 3K and kept the lead all the way to the end on stage 16. All the other "main contenders" left with Landis but when pereiro was cracked they stayed with Landis for another 3 to 5k and then they sat up and waited for Pereiro. They were thinking of attacking later in the stage. Could Landis have doped, Yes he could have, but I think many thing contributed to his Victory. And again he only recovered 6 minutes
There are many things that do not add up in this case. His test results before and after stage 17 were normal. Many doctors will tell you you do not eliminate any "doping" in 24 hours. so why is stage 18 normal? traces remain in the system for 48 to 72 hrs. Also the lab that processed the samples did not follow correct procedures, they knew they were testing Landis blood. All I'm saying is there is a possibility that he did not dope. Been fun discussing this with you
It was T-Mobil and CSC that picked up the pace so as not to loose the places in the GC. They brought down the gap from over 9 minutes the 6 minutes. Floyd went from 11th in the GC to 3rd with over a minute deficit to pereiro who is not a very good TT rider.
shame on all you guys who defends floyd. Look, he all of a sudden rides like hell, even though he completely collapsed the day before. Why would he all of a sudden grow so strong?
Plus, landis has come up with many different stories about why the testosterone level was so high. Why couldnt he jus tell the trouth? First he said that was how his body was, then he said it was the alcohol from the day before, then he said it was a mistake in the lab. Why wont he tell the truth? because it stinks.
You ever been an athlete? People have bad days and good days. His body just wouldn't put the power out the next day, but the irony was that because his body wouldn't go hard, he didn't beat it up very badly, which meant that the following day he was that much fresher than everyone else. I've been there, I've done that.
Now, if you had ever actually studied testosterone (artificial or otherwise), you'd know that it primarily helps with muscle development. But significant muscle development takes weeks to occur. That's why people have to lift weights every day if they want to get stronger or, in the case of endurance sports such as cycling why they have to build up a base. So that the idea that "he had a bad day so he went home and shot up" is nonsensical. It WOULDN'T work even if he had, and he'd know that.
French lab called Chatenay Malabry knew they were testing Floyd and when the results didn't come out positive they erased the file and redid the test to get a positive B sample. Every expert said the lab was pathetic in their techniques and were not using recognized standards. It is beyond ridiculous to think he would have used testosterone doing the race anyway as he is being tested daily. Lets stop torturing this guy!
I think you and the rest of Ivan Basso fans got our wish! He's riding in the Giro and Le Tour in 2007, albeit in DSC blue/white/silver color instead of CSC's red/white/black. I am actually incredibly happy Basso came to DSC, since I knew they were trying to get Basso to sign for the past three years, ever since he left Fassa.
LoL You are right the color of the Maillot can't be taken seriously. By the way did u know the "owners" of LeTour de France tried 3 days ago to buy "La Vuelta". The deal didn't consolidate, but a strong marketing agreement came up. Next year will be a fun cycling season to watch. They should definetly wear yellow in any serious race.
P.S. Any news about Vasso ? (I hope he goes to Discovery )
Ivan Basso has already released statement saying he's expecting to continue his career with CSC, and that he will prove his innocence to the extent Bjarne Riis desires. However, in the brand new doping investigation titled Operation Athena, he has been implicated again, and his house has been searched by the investigation team.
I've watched a bit of it. Yes, shame for Mr V. Now here's a stupid comment: I can't take the Vuelta seriously because that goddamn awful 'golden fleece'. When it's overcast the jersey is a muddy yellow, almost khaki. Yuk! Give me the bright yellow Maillot Jeune any day!
I don't know about this stuff, but i know one thing,
DICK POUND!

Well he was caught redhanded.
His hematocrit at the start of the tour was 44.8 and that increased to 48.2!...Not hard to figure out what was going on.
All the lame excuses he had...Pathetic.Glad he was caught!

Dick Pound....does he do it?
mbhfromla 3 years ago
99.95% of pros are on drugs. WADA is corrupt and you can see it the way Dick pound acts, the person they have for their president.
largefallingicicles 3 years ago
The UCI is corrupted, not the independent scientists at WADA.
The UCI transports the testing samples as a chain of custody.
