Thank you for posting this man, good memories of growing up towards my teens. Are you ready for the game this Thanksgiving? I know our team isn't nearly as good, but we are on a streak.
@Obamadose Not anymore they can't... Al Golden must turn the Canes around quickly, or they will be stuck in mediocrity; losses to in-state rivals (Especially listless losses) devastates recruiting... if any more Florida teams join BCS conferences and the Canes are stuck in the middle of the ACC, Miami will never be able to recover (...and I am a big Canes fan, so that is a very tough reality to swallow at this point)... That move to the ACC was the worst decision EVER for the school... :(
This was the last season the Dolphins really looked like they could contend for the AFC East and go for the Superbowl - the 2008 surge proved illusory. The 2003 Dolphins were one of a handful of teams to win ten games yet not make the playoffs.
@STP43FAN1 I believe this was the best of the 11 Post-Marino teams. The downfall (also the problem in 2002) was a combination of poor play by the backup QBs and very poor play in clutch situations. Oddly enough, had Fiedler not been lost for stretches, this and the 02 team were probably 11 or 12 win teams, which would have earned home-field in 02 and the Dolphin D for the most part was capable of keeping any game close in 03. It would have been interesting to see those teams in the playoffs :(
@TheReyFamily What hurt them most that season - just 1-3 against the AFC South - lost a squeaker to Houston, lost a close one to Indianapolis, then got shredded by Tennessee. Beat Houston or Indy and they'd have knocked Denver out of the playoffs that year.
@STP43FAN1 ... or that NE OT win after we missed a FG in regulation... In the past 20 seasons, the 02 and 03 Dolphins (along with the 2008 Patriots and 2010 NY Giants) were arguably the best teams (talentwise, not necessarily recordwise) to not make the playoffs... :(
@TheReyFamily Man, that OT grinder in Miami - talk about a weird game between the controversy over Ricky's first down run in the dirt infield, the blocked FGA, the coin toss brouhaha, the second missed FGA, then Fiedler escaping a sack only to get picked deep, then Brady going deep and Troy Brown looking like Irving Fryar.
@VirtuousSoul1 They also played better... This was the last time (and only one of 3 games since the 'new' uniforms came out in 1997) that the Dolphins hit 40 points... Taking the last 8 years into account, this was arguably the last game where the Dolphins looked and played like a Super Bowl contender... :(
@DoesNotExist305 Actually, they were the 1984 throwbacks (They were billed as the 1972 unis, but the designers didn't pay attention to the actual design and ended up with the 1984 version)... they were explosive and should definitely return... this was the last time Miami hit 40 in a game... :)
I remember this game too. I was a sophomore in HS, playing on my school's sophomore football team. The varsity played the day before against their arch-rivals and lost on a last second hail mary. I watched that game from in the broadcast booth.
The next day, Fiedler and Chambers gave me an excellent Thanksgiving.
Check out those dolphins tonight. 20-19 Dallas. Couldn't get it done against those Cowboys!!!

@TheReyFamily Griese was 2-2 that year. Hard to say he played badly that season.
