Don't know what season your talking about G4Jmedia, but both the ALMS Dyson Mazda's and the LMS Mazda entries, are 2.0 Litre 4 cylinder turbocharged MZR series engines developed by AER.
I have owned Mazda's for the last 11+ years and I have never seen anything above a V6 in their line up.
World Rally has nothing to do with the Le Mans series besides the FIA being the ruling body, and the FIA banned Rotary engines from Le mans competition, so don't hold your breath.
Won't happen due ti the FIA ruling them as an illegal engine type (I think it was due to the manufacturing giants like Jaguar and Mercedes whining though, they got royally embarrassed), engine is too reliable besides the oil and fuel factor.
The Mazda techs said the engine could have done another 24 hours without a problem.

この時代は、テレビ朝日がスポット中継をしていた。
日曜日の23時から録画ながら、ゴール直前のパートの放送が始まったが、中継冒頭から先頭を走るマツダの映像が・・・。
実況が「なんと日本のマツダが先頭です！ルマンで日本車が先頭を走っています！」と上ずった声で切り出した。
当時は情報が少なかったので、23時の中継が始まるまでマツダが先頭とは全く知らなかった。
鳥肌と涙と・・・ 甲高いロータリーサウンドが、フランスの片田舎のサーキットに鳴り響く。
トヨタ日産よりも早くにルマン挑戦を開始したものの、永らく地味な存在だったマツダにスポットが当たった瞬間だった。世界中の誰もが、日本の広島からやってきた職人肌のメーカーに賛辞を送ったのだった。

No, it could happen. In 2002 someone entered a WR with a Mazda rotary engine shoved in it. It was uncompetitive, sure, but it happened.
Anyway, Mazda are supplying V8 engines to LMP2 teams now, so I wouldn't rule out a return with a V8 rather than a rotary.

I love this car, although I don't know exactly why.
I would like to see it in a Manga or Anime, because I am a fan of mangas too, but there isn't one.
