If the Battelle Memorial scientific study (of 3201 sightings) has a category that is designated unknown (at 21%), that's it. It's unknown. One can't extrapolate from the unknowns to a definitive known, i.e. extraterrestrial craft. Additionally, because the data is previous to 1955, it is a bit dated now.

Why doesnt one hover above a packed staduim during a superbowl or something where there are enough people around to confirm the same sighting. The sighting looked like ballons to me but still, it shows perhaps why there are no good pictures. There are no clear pictures of distant planets either but that doesn't mean they don't exist. The evidence for flying saucers (radiation traces, radar confirmation, sighting by highly credible witnesses) is as good as for black holes, super novas and the big bang

Do a recent postings youtube search of UFOs in NY. Also, that there are a lot of things we beleive to be true based on visual and trace evidence etc. The northern lights were real long before there was a scientific explanantion for them. Eyewitness testimony is just about the lowest form of scientific evidence possible. Why not mention the fact that Dr. Friedman graduated from the University of Chicago, earning a Bachelor of Science (1955) and Master of Science (1956) degree in nuclear physics? I'm sure Stanton means well, and believes what he's saying, but I can't see how he's any different to his "noisy negativists". He says it's a FACT that we're being visited by aliens. But I know for a *fact* that he has no hard evidence to back that up - no alien tissue samples or advanced technology or materials, or even just an ashtray off a UFO. The scientific reports he offers as "proof" make no firm conclusions. "Don't bother me with the facts, my mind's made up" could equally apply to him

If governments know for sure that thousands of witnesses, radar confirmations and radiation traces are explainable phenomena then they're doing a bad job explaining what's going on. So let's have a current UNBIASED (maybe government third party contract) official investigation and clear this up once and for all.

If the Battelle Memorial scientific study (of 3201 sightings) has a category that is designated unknown (at 21%), that's it. It's unknown. One can't extrapolate from the unknowns to a definitive known, i.e. extraterrestrial craft. Additionally, because the data is previous to 1955, it is a bit dated now.
The bottom line is that there's no hard evidence. Or there is but the government or air force is withholding it at Area 51, etc. So how can we determine whether this is true or not?

@segmentor It's interesting though that a recent sighting in New York in broad daylight. 10 + million people, not one good/clear picture. The sighting looked like ballons to me but still, it shows perhaps why there are no good pictures. There are no clear pictures of distant planets either but that doesn't mean they don't exist. The evidence for flying saucers (radiation traces, radar confirmation, sighting by highly credible witnesses) is as good as for black holes, super novas and the big bang

All I said was that there was a sighting in New York in broad daylight just recently and no one took a clear picture of what appeared to 'fuzzy' ballons. Do a recent postings youtube search of UFOs in NY. Also, that there are a lot of things we beleive to be true based on visual and trace evidence etc. The northern lights were real long before there was a scientific explanantion for them. Stanton is a physicist and I happen to be a statistician.

@speaker00001 Hi :) The Phoenix lights were flares that military jets launched at around 10:30pm came after thousands of people were calling the local airport and military after seeing a massive craft around 8pm. Please research. There were ufos over Washington in 1952 that 1,000s reported. Many many more massive sightings. I'm a big fan of science. I read Carl Sagan and Stephen Hawking. I do find some these UFO cases very interesting though. Serious ufologists just want a series investigation.

@ROOSTER10X to be fair they said on the birth of a tiger sun the masters of the stars will return. This was a Solar eclipse that happend over mexico in the early 1990's. When the Moon passed the Sun had strips of cloud crossing it (there is footage of this event , and you can see the craft appear). Ever since then there has been ever increasing UFO activity in and around Mexico.
Stanton friedman on the other hand is a debunker, who will slag off alot of genuine video footage and research.

I heard Friedman say years ago during an interview that we already have the ability to make a spaceship that can go close to the speed of light, and I don't doubt him. The truth is, technology is so compartmentalised from the top down, that while the military have big toys to play with (the fabled TR3B, etc) we civillians are stuck with the pathetic, soon-to-be-obsolete Space Shuttle. As long as we stick rigidly to old fashioned Newtonian physics, we can't go very far in space.

hey man i dont believe in UFO's - my post was sarcastic. I guess you didn't get that. Of all my time in the military and being around the world I still havent seen a UFO. As much as the UFO craze is going on - everything they are seeing are man made objects with the exception of bodies falling from out of the sky and mirages. Perhaps Holograms will deceive a few who believe. But I am not trashing those people - just my belief that if their is a ever a real UFO seen then its demonic.

I think it would be very cool for aliens to be present in our region of space. However, the evidence presented is scientifically insufficient. Eyewitness testimony is just about the lowest form of scientific evidence possible. Secondly, all these unfounded conspiracies about government scale cover-up are ridiculous and not evidence for UFOs. Thirdly, the horrible quality photos aren't sufficient (he also leaves no room for the possibility of a doctored photo or a camera malfunction).

I "want to believe" too, but not at the expense of deluding myself. There is compelling evidence out there, but nothing definitive, and by failing to admit that he crossed the line that separates enthusiasm from obsession and science from faith. I can understand why he believes it though. To concede that he could be wrong would be to admit to himself that his whole life might be nothing more than a wild goose chase. And what man can truly accept something like that? No one is that sane.

This is one of the worst introductions I've ever heard of a public speaker. Why not mention the fact that Dr. Friedman graduated from the University of Chicago, earning a Bachelor of Science (1955) and Master of Science (1956) degree in nuclear physics? As a skeptic, I have a hard time dismissing someone of his level of scientific education and research experience.
