I think all the hate is silly. I love Jeremy Brett and I'm a fan of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, and I enjoyed this movie.
Yes, there are things about it that are grossly incongruous with the books. There are also some things that are very true to it that have been ignored in previous productions.
All I can say to the purists who are RAAAAGE-ing is: movies have been "ruining" books since the beginning of film. What are you, new?

you are damn right.i`m a holmes purist.i can`t accept misuse of sherlock holmes character.this movie can attract only those people who haven`t read the books much.
i also don`t understand why stupid directors like richie has to make films on non-canonical stupid stories when there`s 60 great stories already written by the main writer.

If you don't like that, watch the older films or something.
I'm not sure if those are any good, but there are over 100, so there's bound to be some good stuff.
As for this one, I think it's a nice approach even if not the same.
A lot of people ask me,why I saw it.How would I know,how the film would be,before I watch it?I`m a Holmes fan and watched it out of curiosoity and was heavily disappointed since it is not Doyle`s world at all.And should only those people comment here who liked it?I thought if something is open to appreciation,then it should be open to criticizm as well.
It`s no surprise,that u r no fan and have only very elementary idea on holmes.If u were a fan,u couldn`t have liked it,since something in life donot grow old and they shouldn`t be modernaized,as it totally rapes the whole creation.And yes I watch the older films of granada tv serial on Holmes,thank you,which is the best adaptation on Holmes till date.Anyways,enough on this,good day.

I know enough about Sherlock Holmes to know what it's about.
And I already knew this movie would be a bit more Hollywood-like before seeing it, but after seeing it I was satisfied by the way it's done.
It's not a very action-packed over-the-top flick, it's actually very well done.
Not that's it's perfect and one of the super-films, but it's definitely good.
Fans of anything just can't accept any kind of change or adaptation...

And by the way, if I were a fan of the original stories, I could still be open for different adaptations.
I might not be a fan of this, but I'm not so picky of other things that I am a fan of.
Perhaps other books or comics that have been made into movies I can definitely appreciate too.
