  • Why not. Every excellent song deserves a cover. I like both versions. I am very sad that the song is almost forgotten and there are no new versions.

  • MrPistolMason (Is this the screen name that's suppose to intimidate me? ) THINK TWICE JACKASS!

All the # 1's with Diane Ross at lead before her 1970's well orchestrated & masqueraded "solo flop debut" (Reach Out & Touch # 20 Billboard Pop Top 100 Singles) belong to THE SUPREMES, never in history to her!

    THANK GOD!

    And about the BUCK$?

Less is more, that's why today she's in the personal / spiritual hell she gravitates at!

Send her my regards, God Bless her!

  • Silly TWTR, & Her "Selective Memory" How did 1970 turn out TWTR?, I'll remind you, "The Supremes", Up The Ladder to the Roof Number 10 Billboard, "Diana Ross", Ain't No mountain High Enough Number 1, ONE,

As for "The Supremes" Jean Terrell had enough Talent to keep them going for another couple of years (with no Number 1's) but when she left Mary Wilsons "No Talent" Ass (Like Diana before) They Died, Patti LaBelle, Honeycomb & The 3 Degrees attended the Funeral! LOL!!!!

  • OnLineAdministrattor1 WHO ARE YOU KIDDING?

Diane's version of "Reach Out And Touch" barely made The BillBoard Top Pop #20 Singles Chart, as a matter of fact it "peaked" at #20 and that was

Diane's first solo single? What a disappointment ?

The Supremes & Four Tops version was not only well received , it was getting Radio Air Play in Pop & R&B Stations and it was not a Single, typical Motown Marketing & Distribution, Berry Gordy, "THE ACCIDENTAL RECORD MOGUL , THE DIANE ROSS VICTIM"

  • @TWTR4EVER Why attack me on this one? Like I've said, I'm not slagging this version off. I've already said I like it. I've always loved Jean's voice....but this still belongs to Diana, regardless of whatever position it reached, and I really dont care about that. Their version of "River Deep" is great also, but that belongs to Tina.

I actually like the combination of The Supremes & Four Tops and I do have their albums!

  • @OnlineAdministrator1 I'm honestly sorry if it felt like an attack!

"Reach Out And Touch,"point in question, the duet of The Supremes & The Four Tops was getting not only great reviews and Radio Airplay but it was never released as a single!

Berry knew that if their version at that moment in time if released as a single climbed in the Music Charts higher than Diane's disappointing #20 her "solo career" would have been in bigger trouble, "Everything is Everything" & "Surrender" flopped !

  • @TWTR4EVER It actually got that high? In some local and regional markets it never climbed above #40!

  • @DetroitLives313 Yes, "Reach Out And Touch" by Diane Ross in The Billboard Pop Chart Singles peaked at # 20 went to #7 on the R&B Chart, what's really dismal is her record in general as a "solo" out of 24 Studio Albums & 4 Soundtracks only "Lady Sings The Blues" / Soundtrack went to #1

With Motown she had 44 Singles released 6 went to # 1 one of them a duet!

Her trajectory really is a "failure to launch"

She had no #1 with RCA or after!

THE SUPREMES remain the legacy, no matter what!

  • @TWTR4EVER Oh Lord, you are not only an idiot, but truly annoyiing. Diana may not have had too many No. 1 hits as solo artist, but she was the FIRST female to string up 4 CONSECUTIVE NO. 1s, according to Billboard. Why don't you just chalk up all the Number ONES with her on lead, huh? Now please, just go away. Numerous No. 1s or not, who has the BUCKS?

  • They just took Diane Ross' song! They do a much job of it, Mary Wilson, Jean Terrell, Cindy Birdsong , Levi Stubbs, Obie Benson, Duke Fakir and Lawrence Payton!!!! Whew!

  • Ironic that Ross haters absolutely SLATE her debut solo release, in defence/preference to The Supremes post DR debut single, and yet here they are singing that same song that Diana sang....couldn't have been that bad after all!

I do like this version, but it still belongs to Diana..

  • @DetroitLives313 Just your opinion...I do like this version...but as I said, it still belongs to Diana...but strange that her haters hated this song...

And just for the record, I've always liked Jeans voice and have never said otherwise!

  • @OnlineAdministrator1 That "Reach Out And Touch" belongs to Diane Ross is laughable, her version, her first "solo" release single after ABANDONING THE SUPREMES 1969/70 was barely a Top 20 as it peaked at #20 on The Billboard Top 100 Singles Chart!

Now "I Will Survived" will always belong to Gloria Gayner never to Diane Ross!

  • can someone tell me which member of the four tops sings after Levi onthe bridge

  • It's Lawrence @babybluemsuic426

  • @babybluemsuic426 That is Lawrence Payton right after Mary Wilson and just before Cindy Birdsong.

  • @DetroitLives313 Lawrence had a lovely voice!

  • @stawberry19919 He was a really good guy and a great father too! I knew all of them! thanks for putting this up.

  • This is a prayer. No one ever goes to a church and pics out who sings it better were there to share in its message.

  • AFTER THE GREAT DIANA ROSS WHY BOTHER!

  • @masc6feet1man AFTER THE BACKSTABBING CONNING DECEITFUL Diane Ross first solo Billboard #20 Pop 100 Single mediocre version of "Reach Out And Touch" this was a breath of fresh air that only served to prove Diane Ross is not all that!

  • I know Diana was somewhere PISSED!!!!

  • @christiandior1947 I love The Supremes and The Four Tops, BUT REALLY....IT couldn't take all 7 singers to do such a NICE JOB at their version, but Diana TORE IT UP ALL BY HERSELF! I'm sorry, but NOBODY HAS ANY BUSINESS DOING THIS SONG but Diana Ross =)

  • @rioboy13 I thought some parts of this cover were less than...er...good...but I think they did a really well job. Esp. Jean and Levi! They had so much chemistry!

  • Jean was a decent Diana imitator, but I'd hardly call it "magic".

  • Beautiful

  • I am speechless. I thought her version was a definitive version. But these two great groups proved me wrong. The second part of the song is tremendous.

  • Love the supremes and four tops together. Can somebody post a copy of 'tor your love' by the above mentioned i have a copy but it's all scratched.

  • I am speechless, its so good. A real gem.

  • From the second album together, The Supremes & Four Tops ( The Return of The Magnificent Seven) was as good as the first one, "The Magnificent Seven and the third one "Dynamite" has a lovely version of the song "It's Impossible"

  • Can you send me this song, please?

  • I like it when they first recorded this song back in then.

Does anyone have a song thay did call I'm glad about it woman?

  • The Return Of The Magnificent Seven !!!!!!!

    Awesome Track & Post !

  • Great Song, I have this on vinyl.

  • Me Too !

  • does anyone have anymor live performs of diana and the supreme im 25 yrs old and i love these woman

  • Weird, but groovy.

  • just awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • YES this is NICE!

    5*

  • AT 2:29 there's MAGIC!! OMG! THAT IS AMAZING!!!!!

  • i love this version always have ...and we get to hear cindy...WEEEEEEEE

  • different but i think i like it

    thank you!!

  • people could learn from this song still till today. if we just reach out and care for one another! missu

  • What if They had released THIS one? Hmmmmmm?

  • Hmmmmm?

  • Yeah, just some 'food' for thought! :-)

  • It's odd that the men are doing the high harmonies on most of this tune while the women sing the lower ones!! This is a beautiful and unique track!!

  • This was originally in stereo with the Four Tops on the left channel and the Supremes on the right and Levi and Jean centered but YouTube uploaded it in mono!! I did left it this way purposely to have them all singing in unison!! Wink! Wink! It's so much better!!!

  • It was sooo cool to hear THIS! It is so 'communal' in spirit.......Which is what the song REALLY IS aBOUT! THANKS for posting it!

  • This is my favorite version of this hymn of hope. The Supremes and Four Tops did it best, like no others can. Thanks.

  • I'm really surprised that Mary and Cindy didn't balk at "covering" their recently departed partner's solo debut single from earlier that same year...as if they had a choice anyway, when you think about it though.. I do like their completely different take on the song, though. No wonder Mary says that the '70s Supremes' audiences called out for them to sing it live -- everybody was confused!

  • Wow!!

  • italoman9 you know I have read some of your posts and you are kind of stupid and you post really ignorant things.

  • I'm afraid I have to agree. I think he's just misinformed.

  • tubeyouuser? please, reach out and touch italoman9's hand.

  • mr. margic moment? please, reach out and touch italoman9's hand.

  • Well, Ashford & Simpson did produce the first Magnificent 7 LP, and they did write Reach Out and Touch. I bet many acts from the Motown stable had a go at recording the song, and these 2 versions made it onto (at the time) vinyl.

  • Woo when Jean came in at first I thought it was Diana LOL.

This was a great pairing and their albums together certainly deserved much more commercial success

  • Awesome post. Lovely, thanks.

  • They sound like the 5th Dimension, especially during the bah-bahs.:)

  • What a double act..two Motown greats singing there heart out..fantastic,.ktf.
