This is a GREAT song from their Boston club days. It's called "Boy." It's one of a dozen or so songs they never released on a record that fans of the band would really love...
yet, she since she was struggling, she made the best music of her career. any artist creates their best work when they are hungry and .. broke, basically. the music has to be better since it is written by an angst ridden individual. we all relate to the struggle and the emotions come through that much better. its my opinion and im sorry if u disagree
Well I think the only thing I can do now is watch this show from the Ritz on a large screen TV every night of the week for the rest of my life with sound thru PA cabs and I'd be perfectly happy. Don't laugh, it's true.
I love Til Tuesday. I've been a singer, guitar player and drummer in various hard rock bands but I still have a huge appreciation for talent and great song writing. Nice groove to this song. What can you say about them. Aimee singing perfectly while playing intricate bass line. Lots of feeling. Watch Me Bleed, You Know the Rest, Rip In Heaven, Long Gone Buddy, all great songs. Call me crazy but I hear a bit of a Kate Bush influence in some of their music.
You were obviously not even a gleam in your parent's eyes in the 1980s.
Your comment reminds me of someone else, around that time, similarly inexperienced, who said to her pal, "Did you know that Paul McCartney was in another band before Wings?"
"The singer" is Aimee Mann, and will be a musical talent for a long time to come. Maybe not as durable as McCartney, Dylan, Cohen, or Mitchell, but nearly as memorable.
And will probably be a lot less embarrassing than The Rolling Stones.
the more I think about it ,I have forgotten how inovative these guys really were.If you listen to the rare live songs that are now surfacing here and there ,you can hear the variety of emotion and raw power the live shows had.The band drew from different influences and it showed with songs like Love in a vacuum and then ranging to Boy then to Learning you then to No more crying,Each song not at all the same style ,really...I don't know,I guess I miss them,They used to crush it live!!!!!!
there are many songs unreleased that are incredible.learning you by heart, for example.Til Tuesdays live shows had widely changing set lists, some songs more frequent than others, like this one.I had the good fortune to see them many times.Jonathan Swifts in cambridge was a good regular gig. They sounded so good back then , So unlike anything else. I really hoped that raw sound would be the norm forever .Thanks for this gem!!!
Her bass has a great live sound. Coupled with Robert Holmes' kick ass guitar sound and playing, it's like the dream concert...Too bad they broke up. But hey, the Police got back together for a nice little reunion, maybe these folks will come out for us fans.
This song called "Boy" "Are You Serious" and "No More Crying" were all written within the first few til tuesday rehearsals. Only "Are You Serious" made the eventual cut as a B side to "Voices Carry". "Enough to Save You" was never recorded in a studio, but all these songs were staples of early til tuesday live shows.
Thanks for the info about this song. Actually, both "Are You Serious" and "No More Crying" made it onto the first album. Do you know if the song "Just Like Me" was ever recorded in the studio? Or any others that were recorded and not released?
I'm thinking vinyl, and "Are You Serious" wasn't on the vinyl version of the LP ! "Just like Me" was recorded on a demo for the label Epic as were a number of other songs, but they were recorded for informational purposes only, not release.
This song is fantastic. I was bummed to find out in my research that apparently this has never appeared on any official recording, which if true, would be a crying shame.
Not only were they very talented but they had looks on their side as well .
