  • wow, that was in tune and awesomw.

  • I saw them when they came to Las Vegas, and there were 4 pic players playing, and if they didn't stand up and came to the front, you probably wouldn't have known that there was 4 people because it was just so in tune.

  • Holycow! What an amazing piccolo solo. I have to play this solo in an upcoming concert and I wish I was that good right now, lmao.

  • Made me cry, too. Sensational. ~Renee~

  • dude she played it so well it like brings me to tears, if only i played piccolo as well as she does

    :)

  • It's the President's Own Marine Corps Band...not a highschool band!

  • its the united states marine band

  • i love this song. i remember when my band played this. i miss HS band.

  • Comment removed

  • WOW!

    that was Amazing

    awesome job

    Love it :D

  • omg i wish i could play good i play clarient so yea i have practice HIGH NOTES XDD

  • that was so good.

dude, i was playing that song really loudly and my mom was like "you know your dad's friend? well, evidently he's a floutist, and so is his father, and his father actually played that piccolo solo under the direction of John Phillip Sousa." WOW!

    =]

  • OMG my band played this (not this arrangement) and I hope that one day I can play that well. (I play the flute.)

    WOW

  • You Can play that well! practice, practice, practice. The Grandioso part is a bit challenging, especially, with all the "octave gymnastics", 3rd octave fingerings and trills. :-) Just attack it one segment at a time...you'll get it.

  • We play this every year in band at the spring concert. I live in a small town so all of the bands 5 through the combined high school band perform at the concert. The high school band plays this song and the middle school bands join in with a very condensed version. I play the flute and the best part about playing this every year is the look on the freshman's faces when they first see the music.

  • wow, that's amazing!!

I'm playing the piccolo solo soon in June for my schools concert. I'm so nervous!!

I hope I do half or even a little more then half as good as the piccoloist play here... wow...

  • good luck!

  • i saw an alumni band at my school's summer band, one of them was an all-state tubist- he played the piccolo solo- SAME OCATAVE- i made all-state this year, so i guess its my turn:)

  • I played the piccolo part 34 years ago at a county band concert. The conductor choose this song, and all the other band directors said they did not have any flute players who could play it, our band director said I have two who could do it, and we did. He handed us the music and said make me proud and we did. I luv hearing it to this day.

  • Really? is this really the comment u would want to post on a military video?

  • John Phillip would be proud...

  • Man i remember playin that solo back in my junior year of high school...your chomps hurt after playin this piece...especially after playin the high parts!!!

  • beautiful piccolo. excellent tone and style...

im jealous. i want to play this piece. but my director hasn't said anything about it yet. but that piccolo player made my day :) its really good and i hope one day ill be that good.

  • fanfuckintastic piccolo work... those trills rock my pussy too

  • Our band director gave us this music monday and i thought i was going to faint when i looked at the piccolo part, but it's so much fun to play and sounds amazing when played well.

  • take your time learn it slow..!! And you'll be fine.

  • My band teacher said that we were going to be playing much harder songs this semester. If he really wanted to torture us, he'd make us play this song. I'd have to play that solo. That girl is amazing. I can't double tongue or play grace notes like that.

  • Double tongue.. Say, "Tah.... Kah".. There you just learned how to double tongue

  • or. "Too- Koo"

  • I tried playing this.

    It's difficult. XD

  • AWESOME! EXCEPTIONAL! WOW!

That was very, very well done!

  • exelent the piccolo solo

  • This is the ultimate solo for any instrument.

  • Piccolos make me happy. End of story.

  • @11507jennie ..i agree! i played the pic in HS for all 4 years, it's so fun. i can play this solo too, and i love seeing peoples look on their face when i play it too!

  • @11507jennie When played correctly, piccolos make me happy lol. My piccolo is my baby!

  • that was amazing!! im so so so happy now i wish i was that good..i will be one day=]

  • i like how at 1:20 the notes are nice and separated :3

  • That piccolo solo makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. I get goosebumps anytime I hear it.

  • i am now happy.

  • Awesome band

  • the pic solo makes me feel happy. lol

  • i love playing this song in my marching band with my piccolo

  • i know how to play the piccolo~♥

  • nicely done! That's a very difficult solo

    <-- piccolo player

  • wow beautiful sound from all...especially the pic, thats the best ive heard.

  • sexyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy

  • love the low brass

  • low brass pride!

  • Anyone have any ides when this clip was filmed?

  • America has the greatest bands in the world, in a class by themselves. People become MARINES just to play in this band.

  • It's not as great a sacrifice as you think to join the marines to play in The President's Own; you can get a contract to be in the band only.

  • oh. em. gee. i ♥ed it!!!

  • The reason I thought it was a phone a 1:46 is also because that little lead up is not hear again, when the tune is repeated or when played in another key. I guess the player just through it in that one spot!!!!!!

  • Ahhh! I love this solo....it's way hard to learn but it's so fun to play :) My band played this song last year imagine that picc solo but with 4 piccolos instead of one. Deaf much?

  • Thats the piccolo solo, you are the greatest, bratwurstle ;)

  • Is that someone's phone at 1:46? It goes well with the music.

  • Its a trill...but yes it does sound like a phone..LOL

  • That comment made my day.

  • it was a phone if u listen carefully

  • I just started playing at the begining of this year, with only 3 years of experience of flute and I could probably play that a tad slower and an octive lower...But that WAS really good.

  • get a life, idiot!

  • God. This brings tears to my eyes. I'd give a lot to be able to picc like that.

  • i very love this video i have watched like...50 times i guess hehe!, oh the piccolo solo sounds like a nice bird, is it a D piccolo or C?

  • Its a C piccolo. Db is not used commenly anymore.

  • yer all fingers down for high Eb but for E natural i think it's 1st two fingers down on both hands

  • plus thumb

  • fuch

  • That was good. I play piccolo. We play this every year in Symphonic band as a feature for the seniors as their last performance. I can't play the piccolo part that well.

  • who are the tubists?

  • go piccolo player!!!!

the piccolo player totally pwned on the grandioso section! :D

we played this last year in our band.. XD

  • sorry but the piccolo is not a drum corps instrument. This is the President's Own US Marine Band with a knockout picc player!!

  • w0ot, semper fi

  • Just to let everyone know, the song selection is correct, "Stars and Stripes Forever", by John Phillip Sousa, but the performers are the "Commandant's Own", the Marine Drum and Bugle Corps, not the President's Own Marine Band.

  • This group was introduced as "The President's Own," thank you.

  • @Moondogie2 if it was a drum and bugle corps there would be no wood winds. just brass and drums.

  • @Moondogie2 She's right - when's the last time you saw a piccilo (muchy less clarinets) in the drum and bugle corps? Semper Fi..

  • a good solo!! can the resolutio be better?!!does anyone knows how to play E in 3er octave in piccolo?

  • I have to give credit to the Abligado. I learned it my Freshman year and I've played it since. I still need to practice it to get that good, but this song makes me happy.

  • As soon as i heard this the first name that popped in my head was panokio

  • OMG I LOVE YOU

  • of course it was great, that band is the best in the world without question

  • I hate this piece, and this solo...but HOT DAMN it was played well!

  • I did that solo last year and it is crazy. That picc player was amazing!

  • wow, that was amazing...

i have to play this solo, and i am terrified. i could never do it that well....it was flawless..

  • PICCOLO IS MY INSTRUMENT!

woah, that piccolo solo so awesome :D

  • I play the flute, piano and saxophone. I am just starting to learn the piccolo and I LOVE IT!!! What an awesome instrument.

  • Yah woodwinds are awesome. I bypassed the flute and went right to the picc. from my clarinet. I decided to teach myself and continue my regular classes...

    at least for this year.

  • Woodwinds are the best. I cant understand why people like brass/string instruments (and I've tried them!) I play basson, piccolo, flute, tenor sax (its a wind instrument NOT brass). Great picc. solo.

  • Sax is awesome.

The definition of a woodwind is an instrument that the sound comes from the instruments vibrations.

Brass instruments require you to buzz into them, which means you make the vibration on the instrument

  • woodwinds ARE good, but brass is also amazing. i played flute for 5 years, then piccolo for 1, now i play trombone and bass trombone. i also play xylophone and a little keyboard/paino.

  • Man I'd do anything to play in a marine band....I double on piccolo, but am an oboe major...It's great stuff...My piccolo goal is to play on a wooden granadilla with a cyllindrical bore on it.

  • We all have dreams, and yours is a great one. I'm a piccolo player too, and Stars and Stripes Forever is probably the shining moment for piccolo players -- other than Piccolo Pete ;p

  • Pity about your memory card, FlutieCutie. It always amazes me how Sousa's piccolo solos can be heard soaring above the full might of a big brass band, even when playing at the centre. Thank you for this posting

  • There is nothing surprising about that. The frequency and the range of where a piccolo is at is obviously higher than the brass and naturally human ears pick up higher frequencies much quicker than the low.

  • THAT IS SOOOOOOOO COOL!!!!!!!!!!! and the piccolo solo, AMAZING!!!!!!!! i get to do the solo for my school, but simplified a little.

  • WOW incredible. It' d take me forever to learn that

  • i play piccolo, but my true instrument is saxophone.. and i can play slight that solo.

  • i love the evening parade how was it in person

  • vergood i play the flute

    go to ellen woolf

    it is on youtube

  • woo

its very good in a band than at the piano

  • in my opinion Stars and stripes forever is played at these night parades in Washington, what do you think?

  • piccolo player here as well.....from the Philippines.......been playing in the band for almost 18 years now hehhe....this is a very good lesson for a beginner on the piccolo.......should try Eagle Squadron March....quite though also

  • i play flute, and im gonna try to get a piccolo! i heard it's hard to make sound in for the first time playing it, got any advice?

  • I don't know about all Piccolos but with the Piccolo I'm playing you have to roll in more than when you're playing a Flute. It isn't that hard if you just play around with it for a few minutes. Good luck! :)

  • Tighten the corners of your mouth but keep your back teeth open and flatten your tongue for a more mellow sound. And roll out for the higher notes. The picc requires a smaller aperture but don't squeeze your lips.

  • yeah I have problems with excessive amounts of spit on this solo lol :S it makes the solo sound so bad with all that spit and my arm is soaked at the end lol. any advice?

  • Ugh, that's a problem I have with music that has a lot of octave jumps like regional music that's several pages long. I'm still trying to solve the problem myself but as gross as it sounds it helps to spit beforehand and drink water so you're not salivating to hydrate your mouth, and you're probably unknowingly arching your tongue to get the high notes out... so flatten it and your airstream won't be so concentrated on the top of your tongue and moving the spit to the front of your mouth.

  • PS.

To get those high notes out, instead of making your mouth smaller try aiming the airstream down a little more and tightening your diaphragm, like instead of the normal way of getting the high notes push it out with your diaphragm. It's surprising how much it helps and how much better you can control your sound, it's not so loud and shrill when you control it that way.

  • Holy shit

    I suck :(

  • Why does the video always run out before the music stops? Very annoying.

  • I ran out of room on my memory card, I couldn't help it.

  • Hi there - piccolo player from Northern Ireland here. Love playing this piece myself. Thanks ..

PS hope you've got a new memory card now!!

  • (Tear,Tear) Beautiful(Sniffle).Magnifecent!

  • I'm glad that I'm not the only one that get emotional hearing this. (with tears running down my cheeks)

  • I play the piccolo...it is SO fun!

  • Oh my gosh! That was an amazing pic solo!

  • Nice song. Try holding the camera still though

  • THAT WAS AWESOME

  • ahh man, that was sexy! i think im in love with this solo

  • this is the song that my high school marching band is playing this year as our march but our sound could never amount to this...plus we have 8 piccolos instead of just one

  • Do all of the piccolos play the solo at the same time? :-0

  • Not here, no. Since it is a SOLO, the Marine Band plays it as a solo.

  • I was replying to bluerwhale's comment about having 8 piccolos in her school band. I know that there's only one piccolo playing in this band.

  • Sorry.

  • It's all good.

  • yup lol when we practice inside it gets pretty load (especially being a clarinetist) but we also have a 140 piece band and a very strong drumline so 8/140 isn't really all that much

  • EIGHT PICCOLOS?! I CAN HARDLY STAND THE THREE IN MY BAND.

I hope they all have tuners *winces*

  • We have 7 Piccolo players in our band. =O But our band has about 230 people so it's all good. It just gets hard for the person who has to sit next to the Piccolos whether it be a Flute or a Clarinet, they all complain about how shrill it can be. xD

  • Great solo! Such clear articulation!

  • That's a loud piccolo.

  • the solo gave me goosebumps

  • Simply wonderful piccolo solo, a masterpiece! Thank you.

  • This music just makes me cry. Must be those 7 years in the Army... God bless America!
