you can just feel the regret, remorse, tension and confusion in this electric performance of a band not knowing where they are goingl but knowing that when they get there it's going to be incredible.
Stephen Morris is a freakin' machine. I've played drums (not too well, lol) and I think most people don't realize how difficult it is to do what he's doin'! WOW!!
@woodmankrk I tend to believe this was the main reason they were notorious for not playing encores. He was probably too exhausted to continue. I get tired just looking at him! Amazing drummer. He and Hooky are one of the best rhythm sections I've ever seen.
Like @Procopius1980 said, this was in a transactional period, between NO and JD. This songs were like a fusion between what JD were and what's NO became. Yet I like the others NO albums, even knowing that they are much more "selling focused".
Ha Ha! Hooky looks like he's gonna kill Barney. They both look so intense, don't you think? Can't have been easy for them, with probably less than 12 months passing since Ian's death. Still a cool track. New Order were true innovators.
November 19th, 1981. Ian died May 18th, 1980. So, exactly eighteen months and one day, haha! By the way, look at Gillian all painted up! Joy Division -and early New Order- weren't the first steps TOWARD Goth, they WERE Goth!!!
Not to mention that dark lighting in these early concerts. I would have loved to have been there, although that also means I'd be much older than I currently am!
Ah, I agree :-D! I'm much too young! By the way, the low lighting might probably be because they were used to it as Joy Division. Because Ian would throw epileptic fits in bright lights -not to mention strobelights, of course!
To true. Yet, real art, such as this, does not pay the bills. Only a hardcore JD/NO fan could appreciate this. Songs like Blue Monday and Bizzare Love Triangle are the ones that sell the records.
Thanks for posting this live session! All incredible to see/hear.

ニューオーダーってのは掴みどころがないからこそ、人々を魅了してきた唯一無二の存在なのかもしれないね!^^^

I like early New Order where they sounded like The Wake. Now I'm not sure what they're doing.

They no longer exist, unfortunately.

Amazing.
Does anyone know if this song is about Ian's death? Denial?
karziflora 2 years ago
Well most, if not ALL of the songs on the Movement album are about -the loss of- Ian.

@Procopius1980 I saw them less than 2 weeks before this gig (Nov. 6th 1981 in Pasadena). It means that I'm much older than you :)
