relatively speaking, these so called middle-class Chinese are more like the >250k income bracket in the US. Compared to great poverty of the average Chinese.
this is the 15% of its population, and are the only people who can afford homes in the major cities of Beijing, Hong Kong, and Shanghai. Only >5% of Chinese citizens even own a car
A great number of the 15% of China this program is talking about - those who have acquired a certain amt of personal wealth - made it thru corrupt means - nothing gets done in china w/o central gov't approval (police state, hello)

All these picture these Chinese people have been taking of different place of around the world for years, are now being used to build a great china from the best bits of the rest of the world - so that's why Chinese take 100's of picture while abroad :)
@RLei7690 People down-vote videos for all sorts of different reasons. Why would you assume they did it because they're "angry over China's emergence"? -_-
Piano, dance and art classes? That's a busy schedule for a little girl. I'd have to say it puts her family above middle class though unless her parents are budgeting to cut corners on their own wants and some needs to provide all those things for their daughter.
middle class in China is defined differently than middle class in western countries. To be middle class in China you either have to be a foreigner or if you're Chinese. Have a savings of 1 million USD. I think people have this view of China being so Communist and nanny state, but China destroyed its nanny state 30 years ago in order to have this kind of boom. SO its middle class is well wealthier than our middle class.which in the west is heavily subsidized by the gov't.
Also if you're in need of heavy budgeting then most likely I will just assert you really aren't middle class. You're just poor.. Middle class is when you hold a certain profession on top of your finances being in order and having enough wealth to live above paycheck to paycheck. Once you are above a paycheck to paycheck lifestyle then yes you are middle class, a little budgeting might happen, but extracurricular activities is something quite easy to finance for an only child.
someone needs to explain to this journalist, what the class system is. Also, middle-class in the UK and middle-class in the USA have two very different meanings.
This journalist does know. I think there is a lot of misunderstanding of what makes you middle class in China. Not coming from the journalist, but from the audience. Especially for N. Americans who have never really left the continent before. They kinda take for granted that western gov'ts subsidized middle class growth. Whereas China does not have a nanny state its pure capitalism for its people. So their middle class is wealthier because it has to be to maintain their lifestyle
you have to keep in perspective that western countries have a heavily subsidized middle class. Once we see austerity measures in full effect in the west. Trust me the middle class as we know it in western countries will decrease, and only those making quite literally 500k or higher will be considered it unless they have a way of obtaining financial stability and owning property and other assets of wealth. I know in Europe the middle class is subsidized quite heavily. china lacks that
Well your profile states you are in the netherlands. nice place. Really love it. Stayed in Rotterdam for a bit. Anyway on topic. You have national health insurance, you tuition for university is affordable, the gov't does quite a bit to ensure that the quality of life for the middle class is decent enough. Basically certain things are covered you pay the taxes on a progressive scale, and thus less expenses. Chinese get none of this. you have a social safety net.
I can speak more on the US too btw. We're subsidized through having public schools, oh yea you have those too. We have public libraries that have programs for art, music lessons, etc. ACtually I had this kind of stuff and my mom made enough to afford it. Anyway we can get a mortgage on a house at an affordable interest rate because its paid for. The US has a lower safety net than european countries do, and so middle class here is well different too.
If you want a universal definition of middle class. I would say it is at a certain income level on top of having assets of wealth such as property, and also having financial security. paycheck to paycheck living effectively by this definition does not make you middle class. If you're still paying a mortgage you're not really middle class unless you own a small business, or have a few investments. You have multiple sources of income or wealth basically. but not much power.
but essentially we in the west have a middle class that without the gov'ts help it wouldn't have gotten so big or pervasive. I think we take for granted that we have the welfare state because China dismantled theirs back in the 1980s the start of the reform era.
Odd that you see my profile saying that I live in the Netherlands... It says Germany when I look at it.
In any case, I guess I was thrown off by the statement of the middle class being subsidized as those things are available to all citizens. Nonetheless you're right, it would be difficult to imagine the middle class in the West without those subsidies.
sorry about that, but yea Germany has an even more kickass welfare system. Anyway yea the middle class in china basically doesn't have the same protections besides the wealth they obtain through themselves and family. oh yes they are. I don't think you know anything about China besides what western media has been telling you. Trust me a lot of people in the west don't know unless they go to see for themselves. I don't think you realize just how much censorship takes place in the west. I am back in the US, and trust me people where I live always ask me if I was scared for my life when I am overseas. Even to places like Istanbul, or Singapore, very very safe cities safer than my hometown.
so when I hear something ignorant about china it doesn't surprise me. They're scared of Istanbul, Turkey, or the city state of Singapore, so I can't imagine how much fear they have of China. But I am sure it is a lot and it ends up with developing people like you who somehow believes capitalism is synonymous to democracy (it isn't). You cannot fanthom how an authoritarian one party state can be capitalist. It is. They don't have the nanny state in China its more capitalist than US.
China Middle Class with income of US$ 10,000 a year ?? Did u guys know that in the USA if u earn US$ 22,000 a year you would be categorize as poor people and have to recive a food stamp. Message for chinese : YOU RACE ARE INFERIOR AND TILL THE END OF DAYS YOU ARE WILL STILL BE AN INFERIOR PEOPLE, Chinese ppl are shame for asia. The entire Asia hate china soo much & want to destroy China.
@AsianBrotherhood1781 You must be from Thailand, afraid that your friend (America) goes to the dustbin of history and you have no one else to protect you.
@Aaaaarrrrrrggghhh yes I find that the people that bitch the MOST have never been their entire lives. I have several times and I have to say that this report is very biased and propaganda. The Asian market itself is larger than latin america, north america and europe combined, of course with such a massive market comes fierce competition, but I think I am ready.
@Aaaaarrrrrrggghhh thus far even the introductory rates I offer for my art is apparently even too much =/
So I've decided I want to leave an legacy behind, so they will say "yep that's the guy that set those "99 balloons into the horizon all for free. Which explains why he went back to PRC."
@Di0genesus This is exactly what I was talking about. You make no effort to be correct or make any sense whatsoever and a majority of these fucktards don't seem to give the slightest fuck about it. You don't have to make sense or be factually correct to get support from anti-Americans. That's not what they're looking for. They're looking for anti-Americanism and they'll support anything that is anti-American even if it's completely devoid of any substance and give it a couple of thumbs up.
I was in China a couple years ago. Fantastic place. A little polluted, but, so was downtown Tokyo and downtown Sydney's really turned sour, I can't stand the Sydney beaches any longer. Tourist wastes of time. Anyway, China is doing very well. They will continue to do well. The USA (I'm from MI) OTOH is bifurcated. The bottom 80-85% is going to going down the tubes and deserve to. The top 13% (say 85-95%) will do well. The very top 2% will be killed and eaten :)
@Di0genesus You're fucking stupid beyond belief. I don't think you even know what culture is. It's fucking sad how deeply deluded and brainwashed anti-Americans are. So desperate to mention the US on a video that has nothing to do with it and none of you see anything wrong with it. This is the case with nearly every video that Aljazeera puts out, regardless of how related it is to the US. You don't even have to be factually correct or make any sense to get a thumbs up from these morons.
@R3dp055um And who's to blame? The very land you step and live on. The rippling effects seen across the world stems from the most developed countries or you could call 1st world.
So instead of blaming those who are the least at fault, why not your own countrymen? Or is patriotism clouds the mind in denial?
The thing is, what USA consider to be middle class other rich countries consider to be low income or poor. China's middle class would be higher than USA's and Canada's for that matter. I know the pride of some reading this will lash out but it is true. People in the USA live above their means, pay check to pay check. The banks and credit card companies own them. Most are only a paycheck away from losing everything. China is well on ther way.
@catWmagick If those 200 million Chinese considered middle class had the income or standard of living anywhere near USA or European middle class Chinese GDP would be more than quadruple what it is now, even taking into account price differences.
@Meathead36 America was also build by slave labor or have you forgatten that fact.. The Chinese are beating the Americans at every level, America's demise is near and I am on the side of China America should never have been allowed to have power, We are all in danger as long as this lunatic country is in power. (from a moroccan belgian)
@kaddiharrow America was built by Unions. Slaves did not build the empire states building, or any of the other sky scrapers that make up our great nation. Slaves did not build our military, and they did not build our economy. Get real, that was so damn long ago.....get over it already.
I totally agree. The USA not start doing well until we got rid of Slavery. Which is why great empires like Rome and Islamic Caliphates only grew to a certain level of prosperity - because of Slavery. It HOLDS BACK society. Slavery did NOT build the USA. Freedom did.
Americans should understand this. We shouldn't be surprised at a loss of our prosperity. We are SLAVES to the Banks.
@DavesAV6 yes of course they were there on vacation right. America the terrorist state has still slave labor in prison mostly black and latinos, and the so called illegal aliens that are paid 2 dollars a day America today is a leech who bleeds other countries dry, including China.
@kaddiharrow Fucking stupid beyond belief. But that doesn't fucking matter. These anti-Americans will line up and suck your cock all day long because you're anti-American. "So called"? Are you saying they aren't illegal immigrants even though they decide to willfully and unfairly skip the long process and cheat the system that legal immigrants work hard to get to the US? Fucking shame that people like you exist. You probably see nothing wrong with your post.
@x0acake I am saying you are calling them illegal aliens while at the same time hypocritical benefiting from there hard labor and refuse to pay them a fair wage
@kaddiharrow Such a stupid argument and it falls apart so easily. Do you see no hypocrisy in illegal immigrants demanding fairness despite the fact that their actions don't even come close to being fair? What do you have to say about the legal immigrants that actually obey the law and invest time and money to go through the long and extensive process that would get them to the United States? I bet you would see nothing wrong in a man stealing a television while his neighbor works hard for it.
@x0acake I do not believe that migrating to another country should be regarded as a crime, The earth belongs to God and everyone should be allowed to go to wherever he wants.
@kaddiharrow Another thing contributing to the stupidity of your comment is that it relies on the assumption that the US is a person and is supposed to have one single view. Look up the definition of hypocrisy. It refers to ONE's own behavior. The US is not one. Another thing is that illegal immigrants have the choice to work for the wage that they are offered and they often accept a wage that's below average. But often construction workers that are illegals make more than the average.
@kaddiharrow Your "slave labor in prison" comment is fucking stupid as well. I'm not even American but I took the time to read over the US constitution to understand what penal labor means in the US. Your $2 a day is bullshit, undocumented immigrants work for what they are offered and although they often accept below minimum wage, a lot of the jobs they take pay well more than that. Your comment about bleeding dry is stupid as well. Learn about financial risk and investments.
Sorry to say man, but the US might seem tyranical, but it is simply acting like any superpower would. Watch as the next one arises it will be much of the same thing, but the US won't be losing its military status unless suddenly they lose its ability for global dominance meaning the US military loses it ability to be anywhere at anytime and respond in a timely manner.. which the US military hasn't lost that touch. China btw won't be any better.
And America and the west are somehow different? Have you forgotten all the children that used work in the factories and the coal miners that lived in harsh conditions?
Capitalist labor is fundamentally based on exploitation. The only difference between China and the West is that the Western economies have already been through this and more conscious about class struggle whereas Chinese are only beginning.
Fail report, if that woman can speak english that means she comes from a higher upper middle class house who mother is a successful executive at a bank
Expensive International brands? California type Strip Malls? Eating Highfalutin' French Cuisine? Mao must be turning in his formaldehyde filed glass enclosed viewing sarcophagus.
that's a bit harsh, not everyone whines about the NWO also realize in the US there is some real systemic corruption going on in which people have seen a deterioration of their quality of living. Should come down to the south. If you think being poor in America makes you lucky you will wish to take that back. A lot of areas still kinda do open sewers especially in Texas. They don't have to do this but for ideology they make things difficult if you're not rich.
I kind of had to say this to you to put some things in perspective.China's middle class isn't defined the same as the middle class in the western world. For the most part in China you're not considered middle class until you have atleast a savings of a million dollars. With Asian economies booming for the most part there is optimism for people to invest. Hell even westerners who have the education move to Asia for career opportunities or schooling.
@lordblazer I think you're wrong. If you have a million dollar savings you're a millionaire.
In Russia for example you're below the poverty line if you earn less than 120 dollars per month, means if you earn more than 120 you in lower middleclass. Imagine in US earning 120 a month? Even jobless homeless ones get more money than that. Same thing in China, a thousand dollars per month means you're in upper middleclass.
And the best part of all is that the internet is censored, the government controls the economy and you'll be tortured for speaking out against oppression. FUCK YEAH CHINA!
@hilololomoa WTH you can't find any walmart in China????!!! They are everywhere. Well, also are the french Carrefore. Maybe at your place some other popular chain stores are dominating. Within 3 miles of my parent's home is a Walmart. I just haven't seen Savemart there yet.
Well it looks like I have to take my Black ass back to Africa. Sense the Chinese basically own the USA and they're racist, I don't want to be around. Fuck China!
you can't act as a materialistic society like us Americans and be communist, especially with a billion plus people. your asking for trouble lol. the chinese government better have a plan on how to regulate this new middle class.
the chinese want to be american. they might be able to grow their economy and middle class, but i don't think they are ready to live the rock and roll american life the whole way. you need a certyain level of selfishness to live like us, and that will distroy their society because they work as a single organism kind of like ants in an ant farm.
This will ALL change when Sarah Palin becomes our next President! Palin will SLAY THIS EVIL RED COMMIE DRAGON and DRIVE IT DOWN TO 4th/5th world status! All the wealth and jobs that this CHICKEN HAWK shaped country STOLE from America is RETURNING TO THE PALINATION!
the admiration and imitation of Western Culture is amazing: Western names, T-Shirts with english slogans, Western style shopping centers....I wonder if these folks know what they're in for?!?!
cool... good for them... now lets sort out our problems in the west and try and get back to having a even larger middle lcass... i HOPE for a better and a more equal world for all... no matter the nation.... WE are humans.. WE ARE ALL THE SAME!
@ecwaufisxtreme HAHAHA, you are funny. If Sarah Palin gets elected, I will leave U.S. instantaneously, God has to work miracles to save a country from her hands. You made me laugh. But it's not good for you to be so sarcastic!
How can you blame the Chinese for America's problems? China succeeded because they have a better work ethic than us! They don't sit around and blame everyone else for their problems, or get involved in the affairs of other countries. And if we got off our fat collective asses and actually worked to make America a better place instead of complaining about it, we would bring America to be #1 again.
@n987 I don't think America was ever #1. That is just a thing that the government told the people during the cold war. It is easy to say you are #1 but it is hard to live up to that claim. It is also hard for America to rebuild itself when the country has a bunch of politicians that only look out for themselves and not for the country they are supposed to represent. What America needs are new social programs such as the ones that FDR put in place after the great depression.
The Palination WILL BE THE #1 COUNTRY in this world! It will also be the BIGGEST CREDITOR nation on this planet! All of those INFERIOR countries in Europe will be in HUGE DEBT to the Palination!
@n987 indeed, its the loss of americas sense of production and jobs for the middle class that is to blame for the state of affairs over the past 35 years. if america would get back its hard work and axle grease mentality instead of the "i want to be famous and rich right now" mindset it can fix its issue as a collective melting pot of a nation in less that 10 years.
American government try to put the middle class into poverty by hyperinflating the currency. I hope they weren't infiiltrated by the FED and JP Morgan...
@hoosierhiver oh, thank you for pointing out my flaws...you fat, ugly, old, dirty hippy! you are probably as much of a drone as the chinese and those bees of yours!
@swordofisis I am just celebrating that most of the American people I know are not like you. How happy I am to know that the majority of the Americans are creative, loving, hard-working, and fun people. This image of American people is distorted by those who are blaming their own difficulties on everybody else, who are actually dragging down the who U.S. economy by attacking everyone in the world except finding out what is wrong with themselves.
@HerroHerrar East Asians usually adopt western names when they're in a foreign country or talking to the Western media. They do that beause they know their true names would sound weird to the local population.
this is great news

They're scared of Istanbul, Turkey, or the city state of Singapore, so I can't imagine how much fear they have of China. But I am sure it is a lot and it ends up with developing people like you who somehow believes capitalism is synonymous to democracy (it isn't). You cannot fanthom how an authoritarian one party state can be capitalist. It is. They don't have the nanny state in China its more capitalist than US.

All is well in the world :D

You don't even have to be factually correct or make any sense to get a thumbs up from these morons.

so where is the middle class and where is the struggle in this report?
iszoj 7 months ago
The thing is, what USA consider to be middle class other rich countries consider to be low income or poor. China's middle class would be higher than USA's and Canada's for that matter. I know the pride of some reading this will lash out but it is true. People in the USA live above their means, pay check to pay check. The banks and credit card companies own them. Most are only a paycheck away from losing everything. China is well on ther way.
catWmagick 7 months ago
@catWmagick If those 200 million Chinese considered middle class had the income or standard of living anywhere near USA or European middle class Chinese GDP would be more than quadruple what it is now, even taking into account price differences.

China is built on slave labor and will only stay on top with slave labor.
Meathead36 7 months ago
@Meathead36 America was also build by slave labor or have you forgatten that fact.. The Chinese are beating the Americans at every level, America's demise is near and I am on the side of China America should never have been allowed to have power, We are all in danger as long as this lunatic country is in power. (from a moroccan belgian)
kaddiharrow 7 months ago
@kaddiharrow America was built by Unions. Slaves did not build the empire states building, or any of the other sky scrapers that make up our great nation. Slaves did not build our military, and they did not build our economy. Get real, that was so damn long ago.....get over it already.
DavesAV6 7 months ago
@DavesAV6
We are SLAVES to the Banks.
mweibleii 7 months ago
@DavesAV6 yes of course they were there on vacation right. America the terrorist state has still slave labor in prison mostly black and latinos, and the so called illegal aliens that are paid 2 dollars a day America today is a leech who bleeds other countries dry, including China.
kaddiharrow 7 months ago
@kaddiharrow Fucking stupid beyond belief. But that doesn't fucking matter. These anti-Americans will line up and suck your cock all day long because you're anti-American. "So called"? Are you saying they aren't illegal immigrants even though they decide to willfully and unfairly skip the long process and cheat the system that legal immigrants work hard to get to the US? Fucking shame that people like you exist. You probably see nothing wrong with your post.
x0acake 7 months ago
@x0acake I am saying you are calling them illegal aliens while at the same time hypocritical benefiting from there hard labor and refuse to pay them a fair wage
kaddiharrow 7 months ago
@kaddiharrow Such a stupid argument and it falls apart so easily. Do you see no hypocrisy in illegal immigrants demanding fairness despite the fact that their actions don't even come close to being fair? What do you have to say about the legal immigrants that actually obey the law and invest time and money to go through the long and extensive process that would get them to the United States? I bet you would see nothing wrong in a man stealing a television while his neighbor works hard for it.
x0acake 7 months ago
@x0acake I do not believe that migrating to another country should be regarded as a crime, The earth belongs to God and everyone should be allowed to go to wherever he wants.
kaddiharrow 7 months ago
@kaddiharrow Another thing contributing to the stupidity of your comment is that it relies on the assumption that the US is a person and is supposed to have one single view. Look up the definition of hypocrisy. It refers to ONE's own behavior. The US is not one. Another thing is that illegal immigrants have the choice to work for the wage that they are offered and they often accept a wage that's below average. But often construction workers that are illegals make more than the average.
x0acake 7 months ago
@kaddiharrow Your "slave labor in prison" comment is fucking stupid as well. I'm not even American but I took the time to read over the US constitution to understand what penal labor means in the US. Your $2 a day is bullshit, undocumented immigrants work for what they are offered and although they often accept below minimum wage, a lot of the jobs they take pay well more than that. Your comment about bleeding dry is stupid as well. Learn about financial risk and investments.
x0acake 7 months ago
@kaddiharrow
China btw won't be any better.
lordblazer 7 months ago
@Meathead36

There's more poor people in China than there's people in US and EU together combine.
Yet the biggest crybabies are all coming from western world.
Whining about elite and the NWO while living such lives 80% of the population of the world can only wish about.
Western people are simply too fat and too spoiled, economic collapse would shake those spoiled fatasses and wake them up to the real world.
nadoeloiskat 7 months ago 14
@nadoeloiskat That is very well said.
Aaaaarrrrrrggghhh 7 months ago
@nadoeloiskat
that's a bit harsh, not everyone whines about the NWO also realize in the US there is some real systemic corruption going on in which people have seen a deterioration of their quality of living. Should come down to the south. If you think being poor in America makes you lucky you will wish to take that back. A lot of areas still kinda do open sewers especially in Texas. They don't have to do this but for ideology they make things difficult if you're not rich.
lordblazer 7 months ago
@nadoeloiskat
I kind of had to say this to you to put some things in perspective.China's middle class isn't defined the same as the middle class in the western world. For the most part in China you're not considered middle class until you have atleast a savings of a million dollars. With Asian economies booming for the most part there is optimism for people to invest. Hell even westerners who have the education move to Asia for career opportunities or schooling.
lordblazer 7 months ago
@lordblazer I think you're wrong. If you have a million dollar savings you're a millionaire.
In Russia for example you're below the poverty line if you earn less than 120 dollars per month, means if you earn more than 120 you in lower middleclass. Imagine in US earning 120 a month? Even jobless homeless ones get more money than that. Same thing in China, a thousand dollars per month means you're in upper middleclass.

How can you blame the Chinese for America's problems? China succeeded because they have a better work ethic than us! They don't sit around and blame everyone else for their problems, or get involved in the affairs of other countries. And if we got off our fat collective asses and actually worked to make America a better place instead of complaining about it, we would bring America to be #1 again.
n987 7 months ago 3
@n987 I don't think America was ever #1. That is just a thing that the government told the people during the cold war. It is easy to say you are #1 but it is hard to live up to that claim. It is also hard for America to rebuild itself when the country has a bunch of politicians that only look out for themselves and not for the country they are supposed to represent. What America needs are new social programs such as the ones that FDR put in place after the great depression.
