s p b is great singer. i think in his last life he was a gandarva gayak.what a singing. sir balu sir i am reqesting u to plese donate ur voice box to any one if it able.we want to listen ur voice life long and as long as this world exist.
I cant be judgemental in deciding whether he need to get Bharath Ratna or not. I would definitely say he is Bharath Rana himself. His song gives so much happiness and soothes us from all stress, he is a boon to South Indians. I am a Kannadiga btw.
I am also telugu Guy and loves Mr SPB's songs. But do not dilute the value of Bharat Ratna for the people who made money out of their talent. Bharat Ratna should be treated as highest honour and not for film and drama artisians who made their living on it. It should for the people who served the country seleflessly with out expecting any thing and make the peoples lives better and not for each and every sports person or cinema actor or even for that matter any politician.

All the things what these people have made is elevating themsleves by creating records, I feel this award should not be given based on personal achievemnets, rather it shoul focus all aspects society contribution, social service like that. So I think if you start giving Bharat Ratna like this tomorrow Sachin tendulkar or Sha rukh khan or Aishwarya may look to get one Bhrat Ratna
Look, only uncultured people try to classify the pursuit of music as some sort of inferior endeavor. India, is one of the world's cradles of arts and culture, ESPECIALLY MUSIC. The complexity and richness of the classical music of India is remarkable. Maybe you just need to open some books, read some literature and acquire the essence of culture. Perhaps then you will understand the power of art to move people to do those other extraordinary things that you consider to be of more value.
I am not claiming that SP balasubramaniam should get such an award, but making a more general point about this false notion that somehow musical and other artistic pursuits are somehow less noble than other pursuits to change and improve humanity.

I understand your concern but please reset assured SPB is not a just another singer who is popular and just talented. he is arguably among the best singers in the country across all styles and forms of music, plus, he has done real service to the field.

@indlink I dont deny the fact that people like Tendulkar and SPB made money out of their talent. But there's no denying the fact that these people have provided entertainment FOR THE PEOPLE. Music and entertainment is an integral part of our society just like economists, industrialists, philathrophists etc. An outstanding singer/entertainer can bring peace of mind to any person and can indirectly contribute to the welfare of the nation. Not every entertainer can do that. Only a select few :)
its one my favourite song from the film shankarabarnam.I really love spb sir's voice.He s one of the country's fabulous singers.He has sung more than 40000 songs which is something graet.He deserves BHARATARATNA award.

yes i agree but living legend SPB deserve this honor.He has sung nearly 45000 songs thats a guiness record.He has made the nation proud several times.
Even M.S.Subbulakshmi,latha mangeshkar,bismillah khan,bhimen joshi,satyajit ray have been conferredwith this prestigious title.
