I think this is really charming and warm. I expected to hate it, and at first I figured she'd try to sex it up and add a lot of phony drum machines and stuff. In fact, she's so respectful of the material that for me it erases any issue of not being Petula- which no one else is, anyway.

Bunton gives it a good go, and it's not her fault that she can't replicate an absolute pop classic. Her producer and arranger should have given her something at least a tad different to do with the song - because comparisons to Pet Clark are inevitable when you use nearly her and Tony Hatch's exact arrangement. The black and white video of Clark under Related Videos illustrates the impossible task of matching the class and control of the original.

As one who appreciates and loves (and REMEMBERS) the Petula Clark version I can't agree with TheUtubesuxass. Personally I would put their renditions about even, with maybe Petula just edging it. But the use of language by

honestly? my opinion is i agree with you. Emma Bunton stayed true, just modified it very little. I heard the original, and then i listened to this one. the only major differences would be it sounds like Petutal Clark doesnt have an accent quite like Emma Buntons vocals. But again that was years ago, so the sound was differents for each vocalist compared to todays. But i like both of them, i own them both b/c i liked the two versions so very much.
