  • How does the bombs get so fast?

  • Comment removed

  • @VitoPossilipo

Old movie, amateur motion picture camera operator inside moving airplane, the camera shot very fast. Think before you say something. And write proper English.

  • @scatdawg123 Maybe YOU should learn proper English. If you´d known the language, you´d have understood that the narrator said that the bombs come to a speed of 750 miles per hour.

  • "Return to America to train new crews." This use of human resources contributed to victory even more than industrial might. The Axis powers never matched it--they kept their men fighting until they were killed

  • The belle in it's hayday was amasing! and now that it is being restored in Dayton OH I can go and see it any time, though its story after the war is a sad one It finaly ends with a happy ending.

  • I just saw the Belle at Wright Patterson. It was amazing.

  • Longest film on youtube.

  • In the 1980's, the Memphis Belle was touring the U.S. and stopped in WPB, FL. My family (me, pregnant wife, and two daughters), paid about $15 per person to take a walk through tour of the plane.

I'm 6'-2", and had to walk bent-over throughout the plane. Unbelievably small work areas. Would have felt like a flying coffin realizing that 5000 of the 12,000 B17's mfg were lost on missions.

Young and brave men. Really loud aircraft. Amazing to see it fly in, and returned to watch it take off.

  • in the first opening seconds when england appears, I was waiting for bugs bunny to pop up.....

  • I say to hell with homeland security admin. and back with the war Dept.!!

  • It was replaced by Dept. of Defense.

  • this is beutiful, to see the belle come home, it makes me wanna cry, those brave men who get into a potential flying coffin go do what they were told and to think they'll never come back. one thing though, woulda been alot easier with mustangs at their sides

  • Brave guys though being a German myself.

  • Of course, they were brave. Good we had them!

  • despite the fact that the motion picture showed the memphis belle being shot to pieces inaccurate

the events played out in the movie where all based on what happned to other bomber crews

  • Lol this isnt a movie its the real thing lol.

    Get it right.

  • i think you misunderstood what i said

  • if that person misunderstood then i misunderstood to, ur comment is confusing

  • I think he was talking about the MOVIE memphis belle, not the documentary.

  • they didnt show the memphis belle being shot to pieces in the film, it was damaged but managed to limp home

  • "shot to pieces", "damaged". Both can mean the same thing. Kinda like "getting your ass kicked" and merely "getting beat up". They can mean entirely different things, or both be used for the same. And it's been a while, but i seem to remember the belle in the movie, getting damaged severely.

  • yes maybe so, however the term "shot to pieces" would imply that it has been damaged to such an extent that it would be unable to fly, never mind make it back, it had numerous bullet holes, only 2 engines and a damaged wheel which they managed to crank down manually, not exactly "shot to pieces" is it

  • Like i said ""shot to pieces", "damaged". Both can mean the same thing. Kinda like "getting your ass kicked" and merely "getting beat up". They can mean entirely different things, or both be used for the same"

Who cares what "shot to pieces" literally means. It's the context in which it is used that matters.

  • as you can quite clearly see in the film, it is still in full form and not in pieces so there we go

  • You're a dipshit, Did you even read what i wrote, or do you just not understand it?

  • By the end of the war they were so short on bomber crews they extended the tours to 35 missions

  • So the movie was a lie? The Memphis Belle didn't get shot to swiss cheese and limped back to base?

  • You've seen what happened by watching this....!!

  • Hollywood always bend the truth. Even when based on a true story.

  • They sent B-17s with no bombs as decoys!! . DAM i never knew that!

  • They were send out like to give them a chance against the german fighters..no weight to slow them down. They carried extra ammunition. A ball gunner with the 8th told me this.

  • Menphis became a movie, some years ago.

  • Never seen such an impressing documentation though being a German Luftwaffe-fan but as a modeler. Never should this happen again!

  • Beautefoul Film, it´s gread.

  • wow i didnt know that u can put such long videos on youtube...

  • Certain nonprofit groups are allowed long vids.

  • Holodenier your a sick person.

  • holodenier shut up u dnt no wat u r tlkin about sooo shut up

  • ha! your leader had a Jewish disease and killed himself. Nazi's rapped jewish women and shot them naked i've seen the vids they're not fake.

    thank God the nazi's lost

and the nazi's bombed civilians in london on purpose with fire bombs

  • lol

  • grozlz is what you call useful idiot to the nazi, commies and in modern time islamic terrorist after they were done with him they would liquidate him because he suffers from having no back bone and is neutered.

  • This is the first time I have seen this film in about 20 years. It is especially interesting to me as I did my army basic training at the very airfield featured (ATR Bassinbourn) 55 years after this footage was shot. Great stuff, you have to salute the courage of these guys.

  • The voice over sounds a lot like Robert Mitchum. Thanks a bunch, eyii!

  • The Americans bombed during the day.

  • Thank you for this, I've been looking for the full version for a while.

  • This movie, released by the War department in 1943, was actually a propaganda film, like the Iwo Jima Flagraising 2 years later. It was to cheer up people about VICTORY!!!!

  • personaly,i think this vidio gives people hope that progress was being made over nazi germany.i dont think these are lies, but the truth of what happend to the aircrew of the flying fortress in ww2.the stratigic daylight bombing was risky, but it destroyed the nazi industrial machine.

  • And you grolz are the face of asshole.

  • Amen. Mindless, leftist robots like grozlz wouldn't defend their country if they were shoving his mother into an oven!

  • OK professor....why don't you enlighten us? Tell what the lies were and why this war occurred. Share with us your elite knowledge.

    Asshole.

  • i totaly agree.what exactly was the properganda in this movie?the only thing this movie done was show the process that the bomb crews and ground crews went through on a bomb raid.

  • Instead of posting liberal bull shit, you should just thank the men that are willing to put thier lives on the line so that you can write whatever you want on youtube

  • my grandad showed me this when i was younger ands i have always wanted to see it again. thankyou for posting this great piece of history. thankyou to everyone who gave their lives so that i am free to watch this.

  • Thanks for posting. Great piece of history. I'm greatful for those who flew these horrific missions so that "goverment of the people. By the people. For the people may not parish from the earth".

  • you can see where the memphis belle the film got a lot of there information from...great video

  • Thanks for posting! Great piece of history.

  • They were the first americans to have 25 combat missions and survive.I live in Brazil.

  • im not sure, but im sure grans brother was a spitfire pilot. see theres a london bridge tiny church i looked in . full of names

  • Interesting, but quality is not the best. That's why I have it on VHS. :)

  • wasnt andy roodney on the final flight

  • excellent ^_^

  • nice i loved how you posted i remember when i was like 5 omfg!!! i watched this over and over and over again and i never stopped but when i moved i lost the movie =(

and the b-17 was my favorite all time plane and always will be

  • Hells has no connection to hells angels. There were 2 fortresses that completed 25 missions before Belle. But the news media and our Govt said Belle was first so it has to be true. Belle was groomed and was a symbol. I want to see her before I die.

  • PROTECTION OF CIVILIAN POPULATIONS AGAINST BOMBING FROM THE AIR IN CASE OF WAR

Unanimous resolution of the League of Nations Assembly, September 30, 1938.

    1) The intentional bombing of civilian populations is illegal;2) Objectives aimed at from the air must be legitimate military objectives and must be identifiable;3) Any attack on legitimate military objectives must be carried out in such a way that civilian populations in the neighbourhood are not bombed through negligence.

  • Maybe the krauts should have read that

  • That was a time when America was the greatest. A no BS country and when we were respected and feared. Now look at us. Very, very sad...

  • Yeah, thats why they said the WW2 generation was the greatest generation. The purest, the best. There was no subtle bull. Heck, subtract the dictators and the world was great. But look at the world now, every leader is a caniving, evil, bastard. The only exceptions are few and far in between.

  • I heard the pilot of M.Belle said"If we had not got back,what would you've done?"And they said"We had a back up,Hell's Angel"Does

anyone know the fate of this B17,and did it get 25 tours? If so how soon after the'Belle'?

  • Hell's Angel was the first to complete the 25 mission tour, but a name like Hell's Angel didn't sound as good as the Memphis Belle on the war bond tour

  • wow thanks for posting this we watched it in a film class im taking and its helpful to watch it again

  • I dont remember any RAF crews who completed their 30 TRIP tours having a movie being made about them or being installed in legend in the same way.Not a criticism , but funny how PR works even in wartime...

  • Every crew that survived was turned into a legend... maybe that says something about how dangerous it was. Yeah the PR machines were in full gear during WWII (the Allies wouldn't have won otherwise), but that doesn't mean those guys didn't deserve it.

  • One problem being that the RAF did night runs. It's hard to turn it into a movie with evocative shots when much of it is darkness. You rarely if ever see night fighters.

Also, the aerial bombing of German cities resulted in massive firestorms which may have looked bad in a PR movie as all that could be seen was something like of Dante's Inferno.

  • The real Memphis Belle is under restoration in the National Museum of the United States Air Force in Dayton, OH. It will be displayed there once it is finished in the WWII building.

  • This is a great documentary and I wonder in the de-briefing if the aircraft that is shown going down was identified and if the identity of the aircrew that managed to bail-out was established and what was known about their fate after they bailed out.

  • Very moving. Thanks for putting this on.

  • I presume that the fact they were the first crew to do their 25 missions means that all the rest died trying.

    So it goes

  • The Air War conducted by the USAAF in WWII was exceedingly costly with some mission losing hundreds of planes and thousands of air crew members -- it's true!!

  • Not hundreds.

The biggest loss came at the Schwienfurt(spelling?) Factory over Germany. I believe it was 60-63 bombers were lost in that one mission. None the less, 600+ men in one mission killed or missing.

  • Deserves a better coding!

  • Nice! Great watch!
