Old movie, amateur motion picture camera operator inside moving airplane, the camera shot very fast. Think before you say something. And write proper English.
@scatdawg123 Maybe YOU should learn proper English. If you´d known the language, you´d have understood that the narrator said that the bombs come to a speed of 750 miles per hour.
"Return to America to train new crews." This use of human resources contributed to victory even more than industrial might. The Axis powers never matched it--they kept their men fighting until they were killed
The belle in it's hayday was amasing! and now that it is being restored in Dayton OH I can go and see it any time, though its story after the war is a sad one It finaly ends with a happy ending.
In the 1980's, the Memphis Belle was touring the U.S. and stopped in WPB, FL. My family (me, pregnant wife, and two daughters), paid about $15 per person to take a walk through tour of the plane.
I'm 6'-2", and had to walk bent-over throughout the plane. Unbelievably small work areas. Would have felt like a flying coffin realizing that 5000 of the 12,000 B17's mfg were lost on missions.
Young and brave men. Really loud aircraft. Amazing to see it fly in, and returned to watch it take off.
this is beutiful, to see the belle come home, it makes me wanna cry, those brave men who get into a potential flying coffin go do what they were told and to think they'll never come back. one thing though, woulda been alot easier with mustangs at their sides
"shot to pieces", "damaged". Both can mean the same thing. Kinda like "getting your ass kicked" and merely "getting beat up". They can mean entirely different things, or both be used for the same. And it's been a while, but i seem to remember the belle in the movie, getting damaged severely.
yes maybe so, however the term "shot to pieces" would imply that it has been damaged to such an extent that it would be unable to fly, never mind make it back, it had numerous bullet holes, only 2 engines and a damaged wheel which they managed to crank down manually, not exactly "shot to pieces" is it
Like i said ""shot to pieces", "damaged". Both can mean the same thing. Kinda like "getting your ass kicked" and merely "getting beat up". They can mean entirely different things, or both be used for the same"
Who cares what "shot to pieces" literally means. It's the context in which it is used that matters.
They were send out like to give them a chance against the german fighters..no weight to slow them down. They carried extra ammunition. A ball gunner with the 8th told me this.

The idiots who made this video should pray there is no God--because if there is such a creature, and if he is a just God who punishes evildoers, then the JewSA is in big trouble. The airmen in the USAAF were nothing more than "hired assassins for the Jews!" Just what do these slobs and baby-killers think they have to be proud of?
See my website: "Nazi Gassings Never Happened!" The Nazis were the Good Guys, folks--so get used to it!

This is the first time I have seen this film in about 20 years. It is especially interesting to me as I did my army basic training at the very airfield featured (ATR Bassinbourn) 55 years after this footage was shot. Great stuff, you have to salute the courage of these guys.
This movie, released by the War department in 1943, was actually a propaganda film, like the Iwo Jima Flagraising 2 years later. It was to cheer up people about VICTORY!!!!
personaly,i think this vidio gives people hope that progress was being made over nazi germany.i dont think these are lies, but the truth of what happend to the aircrew of the flying fortress in ww2.the stratigic daylight bombing was risky, but it destroyed the nazi industrial machine.

Hells has no connection to hells angels. There were 2 fortresses that completed 25 missions before Belle. But the news media and our Govt said Belle was first so it has to be true. Belle was groomed and was a symbol. I want to see her before I die.
PROTECTION OF CIVILIAN POPULATIONS AGAINST BOMBING FROM THE AIR IN CASE OF WAR
Unanimous resolution of the League of Nations Assembly, September 30, 1938.
1) The intentional bombing of civilian populations is illegal;2) Objectives aimed at from the air must be legitimate military objectives and must be identifiable;3) Any attack on legitimate military objectives must be carried out in such a way that civilian populations in the neighbourhood are not bombed through negligence.
Yeah, thats why they said the WW2 generation was the greatest generation. The purest, the best. There was no subtle bull. Heck, subtract the dictators and the world was great. But look at the world now, every leader is a caniving, evil, bastard. The only exceptions are few and far in between.
Hell's Angel was the first to complete the 25 mission tour, but a name like Hell's Angel didn't sound as good as the Memphis Belle on the war bond tour
I dont remember any RAF crews who completed their 30 TRIP tours having a movie being made about them or being installed in legend in the same way.Not a criticism , but funny how PR works even in wartime...
Every crew that survived was turned into a legend... maybe that says something about how dangerous it was. Yeah the PR machines were in full gear during WWII (the Allies wouldn't have won otherwise), but that doesn't mean those guys didn't deserve it.
One problem being that the RAF did night runs. It's hard to turn it into a movie with evocative shots when much of it is darkness. You rarely if ever see night fighters.
Also, the aerial bombing of German cities resulted in massive firestorms which may have looked bad in a PR movie as all that could be seen was something like of Dante's Inferno.
The real Memphis Belle is under restoration in the National Museum of the United States Air Force in Dayton, OH. It will be displayed there once it is finished in the WWII building.
This is a great documentary and I wonder in the de-briefing if the aircraft that is shown going down was identified and if the identity of the aircrew that managed to bail-out was established and what was known about their fate after they bailed out.
The Air War conducted by the USAAF in WWII was exceedingly costly with some mission losing hundreds of planes and thousands of air crew members -- it's true!!
The biggest loss came at the Schwienfurt(spelling?) Factory over Germany. I believe it was 60-63 bombers were lost in that one mission. None the less, 600+ men in one mission killed or missing.
