I used to have a box like that one that I kept my favorite 78s in, when I was collecting them in the 1970s. I'd forgotten about it till I saw this one. These have a handle on the top so you can carry the box around like a small suitcase. And when you're invited to a record party, you can tote your fave discs to it.
Very cool record! But PLEASE dont play these on that crosley. The cartridge and needle on
these damage records!Try this test, take an old junk 45 and play a short 2 sec. segment over and over about 10 times. Then listen to the groove damage.I've got one of these things too,and there fun to play old 45s on,But you dont ever want to play anything valueable on them, they will KILL your records!3.I've ruined a few records on crappy players, and yours are WAY to special to wreck on a crosley!
You can buy a special needle for these Crosleys, made just for 78 rpm records that will damage them less called a "3-mil / 78 rpm needle".
I have one of these too - there's 2 kinds of 45 record materials, "vinyl" (real), and "styrene" - the second kind is lighter and more glass-like, and will get trashed just like you said on one of these crosley's - but "real vinyl" 45's, and 78s, should be just fine played on these, wouldn't worry. (Don't play it on a wind-up steel-needle Victrola)
"I hear some Magic Sam in this." And of course this is before Magic Sam. Like a ton of other records of about this time, this sounds influenced by J. L. Hooker's "Boogie Chillen." Ross was an interesting guy, could play a 1910s style deep blues ("Going To The River"), or "Polly Put The Kettle On," or a "Tommy Dorsey Boogie."
yeah you're right man, and yes, i'm storing my 78's in cases/boxes like the one shown in vid. Glad you enjoyed my vids, thanks for visiting and supporting my site
If the reference of this highly breakable diamond is 212, "co-Elvis" would be more accurate than "pre-". The release date is logically late '54, i.e. between Elvis' 2nd and 3rd singles.
I've had the boogie disease since I was eleven and I will never be cured. I love your collection and please keep these posted. Most people (like me) gotta have this stuff daily and can't afford the records.
This is the one record that I would trade my entire collection for and never bother with getting any more. Whoever does the leads in this song should get some award or something or at least show me how to play...
tob5tag, my comment was for jukeboxdude. :) yes we are collectors as well, but I play our records over and over from time to time because we have over 15,000 records and I don't have the time to record all of them. heheh
Well... I guess I'll play it only when I start to have withdrawls... If I could even find the darn thing... My luck sucks. Also, I dont really collect them to collect, but to listen to becuase most of them you will never find on cd or tape and lastly most of the records I own are worn out due to some drugged up hippies that happened to know what good music is.
I was lucky enough to see the good Dr. play in Dublin, Ireland in the late 80's. "I'm Dr. Ross and I'm hear to heal you" was his opening line. Great gig.
Hey, cool stuff man, I got a few sun 78s, they sounds amazing when they are dj'ed through big sound systems. Also, where the hell did you get that metal record box? I need to get me one of those because I'v been looking for ages???????????? Thanks, Lewis
Just to let you in on a secret, Cracker Barrel has these things for $50. They're made by Philco, but the ones i saw there a brown leather and slightly smaller.
Very very cool!!! I've visisted Sun Records three times (and the rest of Memphis of course) and plan to go back again. What are you playing that on? Looks like theres an extension speaker behind it. You're my new hero!
This is good stuff.

extremely rare... yes true.....
that record is so scarce that the word extreme seems too light.....
I've seen other videos you have... is that your sun box you have there or is there many boxes?
they all seem to be good and clean.
I mostly collect Specialty , king, nashboro, peacock, okehs but those early suns... pre elvis are realy hard to come by....
if the day ever comes you want to move these records.... My wallet is ready.

Wow! A 78'' record! I've never seen one spinning, thanks! Do they spin that fast? I have two 78s from like the '20s.
