Stefanomillaro needs to know that sensei peter is one of the highest ranked shukokai blackbelt in europe so i think he knows a thing or two about the double hip twist so he has the right to teach it doesn't he?
this guy is saying TRADITIONAL when refering to these punches, but the way he is describing is near enough descrbing the double hip twist thats in every striking aspect of shukokai karate, there is another more recent video on punching and they are just saying the same about putting the hips, shukokai karate has been around since the late 50s early 60s and is by far the most effective and powerful form of karate let alone any martial art. Not good to see extreme street defense are cashingoff it
This is a system based technique that is very very effective. The 1 shown in this video is only the very basic of the punches. Once this is developed it has a very wide range of possibilities, including using elbow&kick from the same body mechanics. The range varies from very short body shots to full lunge step distance. Its not an easy technique to master&once a level of expertise is achieved, there's always room for improvement. REMEMBER THIS IS 1ST POINT OF CONTACT&a very SHOCKING 1 AT THAT
in the short distance strike a problem appears is that the motion is too much predictible it's also looks demanding a lot of concetration and effort, so why not to start the momentum collect and so the strik from the other side of the body ( especialy when the theoy insists on the fact of using the whole body not concentrating on the arm striking ) ?
I would have to say this is a good instructional video. Allthough i have to point out a few things. First of all, the punch down from the ribs and the otehr han also down at the ribs will not protect your head att all.
Infact in a street fighting situation please keep you hands up because even though you might knock him out with a body punch ha might allready have swung and you wont have any defense.
Ofcourse unless you are a very good martial artist please take my advise seriously.
In my opinion if there is any part of your body not engaged in generating power, you are not hitting as hard as you could. Both legs contribute equally to generating torque, as does the whole of one's torso. Even the energy of the opposing arm is necessary to create balance in the wave. The whole body generates that wave of power that crests in the fist on contact.
you "can" use both the front lag or the back leg... when i use a hook i get more power from using the front lag.... maybe its just me but like the most ppl say...use what best works for you
well from an orthodox stance you should putt weight on the front foot for a right hook, but its the back for everything eles. at least in boxing and muay thai :/

Wohoo! It's already good at 1 min... =) Then he starts punching.
Ah ... very good.
The pushing part teaches you what it feels like to add weight and also the body mechanics of how to do it.

everything was good untill that "power comes from the front leg" the power does come from the back leg. its basic tried and tested boxing technique.
