how much does it cost for this kind of guitar with passive dimarzio humbuckers? i liked it because it's set-in neck with 22 frets. btw do you use genuine honduras mahogany?
That looks like a sweet axe! I prefer Seymour Duncan SH-6 P/Us, though, I like it when it sounds dirty! I've tried guitars with EMGs, but they don't sound good in my amp ('77 Marshall Mk2, modified). My buddy uses them and he's got a rack-mount amp with a whole bunch of gadgets and they sound awesome in his rig. Like anything, choice of P/Us is a personal decision, still an awesome looking guitar! If it weren't for the Atlantic ocean between us, I'd consider having you build me one!
Why do you put your bridge pickup so close to the bridge? There is an approximate distance (per scale length) you should put the bridge pickup to achieve optimum tone... and chunk. Cheers.
It is angled, you just cant see it that well in the video because of the light coming from the right. Its fitted exactly like any other T.O.M and stoptail guitar except the stoptail is 10mm further back on this one.
nice, but why active pickups? they suck out the natural tone that that guitar has the potential to have and replaces it with an artificial tone, and a pretty overused one at that.
You kind of answered your own question. A pretty over-used pickup? Maybe the reason they're so over-used its because they're awesome. I love em. You cant get the type of clarity you get from EMG's with passive pickups. This s a very dark sounding guitar with masses of sustain and works really well with the 81.
then you haven't played this guitar because its never been displayed anywhere else in public as far as i'm aware. It was sold before it was finished and he still has it.
What, a complete replacement guitar or just upgrade part/pickups etc?
If you like the guitar go for another higher spec Ibanez. I really like the new Charvel models they do for around £800. They're awesome guitars. Check em out.
I have a question. I want to build my own guitar now pretty mmuch all the same as this cept with dimarzios. How much does it cost for all the parts do you think ? I have the tools
Building your own guitar from scratch doesn't have to be that expensive. But the body and neck can go for more than a full guitar, depending on quality and type. Check out my page, I did the same thing with my guitar with some Dimarzios. Leave a comment or message me if you want some more advice!
a question for anyone out there, i have a similar RG, but mine has 3 pickups, and i plan to buy either emgs or seymore duncans, first which is better 4 metal/rock, and do i need to buy a middle pickup too? ( the middle one is thinner than the other 2 if that helps)
if it helps, EMG's (to me) in an 85neck and 81 bridge, have a real nice, punchy attack, and they cradle distortion super well. ive never playeda on seymours, so i cant tell you about them
That is an really pretty guitar! The all rosewod is so interesting, can you post soundclips of these? Please try the same guitars with Seymour Duncan JBs if you ever make more of them.. They should bring out more of the wood tone, than the EMGs, I think.
how does the fingerboard works do you have to measure the distance between each fret or there are marks where you have to put your frets? sorry for my english im french...
theres a book by a guy called Melvyn Hiscock - how to make an electric guitar. Any questions you have are answered in there. I dont think there is enough space on one message to explain to you why and how frets are where they are!
looks like an RG and an ESP Horizon had too many drinks one night and made this hybrid. haha.
looks really nice. what's the neck dimensions?

@eveguitars You can get just as good clarity with passive pick ups, you just need to be an articulate player. But I agree that it helps.

If it were me I'd go for an EMG 81 in the bridge, a 60 in the necks and then an EMG SA single coil in the middle.
I'd go with EMGs over Seymours coz thats what I like.

thanks, that helps with my choice

Underneath the guitar, where you have the cover for your tremolo, there should be a small cover where you put in a regular battery.
