Listening to this video I understand the problem but there is another side to this. The effect of stopping/making things harder for spammers also affect persons with a low budget to make a living on internet. The direction this takes is that everything will cost more money and you will get less results from the money you spend. The level of success will rise very high because methods that worked before but doesn't work now will still be found in articles and videos. That goes for new stuff also.
Web Services on the web are increasing every day as technology grows. If you or someone you know are going to start a web service this video should be watched.
Matt Cutts discusses in detail the important attribute of website attackers and how to prevent it. Thank you Matt Cutts. From Charlie McBride Website Service Solutions
Great presentation! I really liked that bit about the obfuscated Javascript redirect!
Nice job not revealing your coworker's identity there. :) A word of advice - you're credible enough that your audience will believe you if you show us an example but don't mention the domain name.
Im sure one of the reasons is because they know that many people cant afford or just cant go to these big confrences...
Hell i can't im 16, as much as i would like to its just not an option.
However it is important to note that in many cases it isnt the men in suits at confrences shaping the internet, its the kid webmasters sitting at home coding away...
Share the knowledge and google get to employ the next generation of computer boffins to make them money ;)
I think you've missed the point - Google detects what's popular based on what people link to. That's why spammers try to get links from your site to theirs.
You can't expect Google to detect how interesting people are going to find a site - they can only detect what people have found interesting before.
They wouldn't. But if google posts this particular video up, then it saves google money every time they don't have to handle a hacked site because the owner prevented it or handled it promptly.
Because they would need staff to do it, in which they would have to pay. I'd rather pay a few people to make an automatic service, than to pay tens of thousands of people to moderate a site. Also you'd need people in charge of those, and it'd get too complex and expensive.
Virtual Blight, I don't like that.

How is this any different than us having a YouTube channel? Trolls, spammers and
jerks hack us all the time.
livinintraffic 3 years ago
its different because you have a lot less control over your youtube channel than a webmaster has over his website.

Shouldn't Google reflect the popularity of a site rather than defining it?
Why webmasters should jump through hoops in order to get a new pagerank for the next chi20xxDOTorg?
Obviously users knows about it, but Google doesn't?
So, webmasters should get their user-popular website popular with Google in order for Google to tell users that their site is popular?
Interesting

timwintle 3 years ago
The popularity is reflected by quality links, it is not defined by it
Obviously a site like chi20xxDOTorg will be popular because those who attended the previous year's event will likely attend the next one
Among all the variables that Google uses to reflect the popularity of a site, this one apparently is not considered
Hence the suggestion is not to get a new chi20xxDOTorg because Google cannot properly rank it
In this case Google defines the popularity of the site instead of reflecting it

He sounds like Kermit the Frog. :-)
On a serious note Google. Why would anyone pay hundreds or thousands if they know you'll just make free videos that summarizes things after the fact?

There a lot of spam on Youtube. It's not links but website URLs, also why don't they just use moderators like every other major service?
eviltwin777 3 years ago

Thats why we have Chinese, lol jk. Also the users of the site feel assured due to the quick response the mods will have since there so many of them.
