I have a question, one of my chins will not take a dust bath, but the other , superior female loves to take one, we thought that the chin wants a bigger place to roll in, but i am confused, can anyone help? :o
@meglaney98 Nope, it's not an albino chinchilla. |If it was an albino, it would be all white, with red eyes. Chins have many color patterns.
And male chins don't often kill each other. Actually, they can live together in the same cage without problems as long as there is no female with them.
@seewhatsup451 In their natural habitat, the Andes, chinchillas take sand baths to eliminate the grease from their fur and to prevent fungal infections (chins can't get wet frequently for some reasons, like the density of their fur and their susceptibility to pneumonia). So chin breeders offer them sodium carbonate baths.

Chinchillas can't get wet because their fur is too dense and, if it gets wet, it takes a very long time to dry, so the chinchilla may get sick (with a pneumonia) or get a fungal infection on its skin. Chinchillas aren't "allergic to water" or something like that... lol.
