tbh, Earthbound is just a Dragon Quest rip off to me.  The gameplay died down in excitment after a while. But damn, with a soundtrack as unique and chill as this, all the elements of Earthbound pulled together to make a pretty damn awesome game in it's own right. I didn't enjoy it as much as other people but I can respect why they would.

You can also say that DQ was a rip off of other text based games. Let's just say DQ improved on those games and EB improved exponentially on DQ.

I mean they did incorporate the rolling HP meter which brought a real-time pressure mechanic to the game . Technically speaking you could call it the first hybrid RPG because of that..... wayy ahead of it's time.
