I have listened to Andres Segovia, Julian Bream recordings for this FANDANGO on 33 rpm Long Playing Vinyl disk recordings in the mid 1970's. This Virtuoso sounds like Andres Segovia... Bravo Mr. Craig Lake - You have put a smile on the SPIRIT of Our Immortalized GrandFather Giant of the Classical Guitar 'AS' + "JB'.....
On the opening chord, what's your second finger doing? Is it playing the B on 2nd fret of the A? I just opened a transcription of this tonight and the first chord is notated as low E, then G# D# E on the treble strings. This sounds a little incomplete, but to confuse things further it has the fingering "2" right where that low B would be, although the note isn't printed. Misprint maybe? It's a Schott publication.
Not stupid. There are slightly different versions around (all Schott I think) but I think they all have the low b. It sounds like a misprint to me. BTW Look at the last chord in your edition. If there is no d# it is a newer version (Segovia didn't like the d#s and swore he would take them all out of the E major chords when Rodrigo passed away). Mine has the d# in the last chord and is an older one.
Thanks for the reply. In my copy the last chord is a straight E major, including the low B. The first chord must be a misprint. Interestingly enough, in my version the 3rd chord has no F# on the D string but when the same 3 chords return in bar 17, it's there (along with the low B of the first chord). Oh, and the second chord is missing the E on the D string in the first bar. It's also there in bar 17. It's like they've omitted the second note of each chord in that bar (but included the finger)
BTW I didn't want to suggest that my version was better than Jerome's, just trying to attract more views. He's an awesome player and his vid is taken from a live performance under the pressure of the worlds most important guitar competition so his is far superior.
It's great! I didn't really like this work by Rodrigo because I have never heard this piece playing like this. Perfect phrasing, clear and beautyful sound, full of spirit and soul.Absolutely enjoyable performance. More video,please:-)
beautiful. i had to have Aranjuez arranged for violin and would like to play more Rodrigo. i had trouble finding a source for the sheet music. do you play from music? may i ask you where you order it from if you do? love to hear you play :D

Pretty gutsy to post this as a response to Jerome Ducharme's performance. Though you do an excellent job. What guitar are you playing?

Thanks. It's a Simon Marty.
