hey does anyone remember those canned oysters.....with a black guy on the front of the can....isn't that the guy here in this episode as the preacher?
Look how Wilona and Florida put down the black man with money! Anyone who appeared on this show, the writters and Producers used the women of the family to demoralize them and the way they got their money. Even the cousin Raymond episode, all he was doing was betting on horse races, but Florida put it down. And the writters and Producers later had Raymond go broke! Our black women and white supremist always have tried to brainwash the black man with guilt and poverty minded morality. MalikJubal
Notice how they didnt want blacks to like, love, or think positive about wealth and money. This show was designed to keep us thinking poverty minded. Now, almost every black ministry is a mega millions church in which all they speak about is money. Just 35 years too late!!!! But on Good Times, the writters and Producers wanted blacks to put down the things that were out ticket out of slavery of poverty and dependance on welfare. Now, blacks love the casino, lottery tickets, etc. Malik Jubal
it wasn't the money that they had a problem with, it's the way he was getting it. By cashing in on the desperation and insecurities of poor people by leading them to believe that donating more money to the church would bring them prosperity from God. Then not using that money to help the same struggling community that he got it from. The same thing is still going on today and people are still falling for it.
@kuunami Are you aware that since Organized Religion began, there has been the Collection Plate? The head of the church has always collected TITHES, and also have demonstrated the wealth in their life styles. Clothing, jewels, cars, and opulence. It wasn't until Blacks got powerful ministries that the world, particularly missinformed blacks, began denouncing the ministers as con-artist. The Government takes taxes from your paycheck and that is a rip off and major con! Malik Jubal
@kuunami Ministries get donation from their congregation, yes!!!!!! However, I disagree with your statement that thier giving to the church and ministry would not bring financial rewards, because all giving, returns to the point of origin. That is Universal Law! Do you really believe that just because someone is desperate and insecure, as you said, are immune from the workings of this Universal Law? Whom ever gives, shall recieve, and itmatters not whom they give to! Malik Jubal
You're extremely over analyzing this. I never said that all churches are corrupt. I'm simply referring to the ones that are and the pastor in this episode fits the description of pastors who are in for the money. The ones who only do community service for their wallets.
@kuunami Ministers benefit from money in some form. They pay the light bill for the church, rent, etc. We may give to the church, but somewhere a portion of that cash goes into some human beings pocket. Being a Minister is a JOB! And we all get paid for working JOBS don't we? The preacher performs a service, does research, gives a sermon.Should people get that for free, while they pay for other needs such as cable bill, cell phones? Can you accept that Religion is a business? Malik Jubal
my cell phone carrier hasn't pretended to have taken an oath to God when the real oath is to his personal bank account like the guy in this episode. Apples and oranges.
@kuunami Does your cell phone carrier offer community service? Does your cable company? The grocery store, the gas station? It's all business! Which may be why the Producers and writers of Good Times named this episode
God's Business is Good Business! Think of this the next time you buy a movie ticket. What is the movie theater doing for the community besides making a profit. Are they in it just for the money? Does it even matter? Malik Jubal
I'll try again. I'm only talking about those pastors who are SOLELY in it for the money and nothing else. Those people exist and are the ones I'm speaking of. It would be foolish to act as if they don't exist. That's the kind of pastor being addressed in this episode. It's up to people to be smart enough to differentiate between those who are men of God from those who are just in it to get rich. But the fakes tend to be the very charismatic and their bank accounts reflect that.
Love Roscoe Lee Brown in this one! I remember him in the Liberation of LB Jones in 1970! What a wonderful cast back then. A lot of blacks got guested on Good Times back in the day! Bernadette Stanis still looks beautiful today, and her children are grown up too! She is a wonderful actress and dancer to this day!
Do you mean the way out of poverty? This time I side with Florida; she can't make James the God-fearing person she is and doesn't try to, and I respect that, but this is despicable; to feign religion to exploit already downtrodden people is sick. Still, people do it all the time. This was different from that other ep because this involved selling out our people and their values for financial gain. I still think they should've kept the "Windfall" money...for emergencies.

@LordIam1 kinda true in what you are saying..but I think Florida was putting down the lifestyle they engaged in..not necessarily the money.

Another line I like: 1:10
Michael: Mama, are we ever goin' get a color TV?
Florida: We don't need no color TV. We know the sky is blue and the grass is green.

After seeing this episode again I totally agree with you. I think preaching to prey on already financially challenged people is abominable.
