We are working for OXY, and thank GOD they have been setting surface strings @ 540', Luckily i had my stack set when we hit one @ 945'. S. East of Crlsbad NM.. Had H2S, Natural, and CO2. If not we would haqve been a running.
@payton4406 i work for a nipple up company and ive noticed that they dont put BOPs until they atleast get to 1200 feet or so. This was just a freak accident
Glad everyone was safe and I hope the locals get back to work soon. Just wanted to say, Quit bashing the American worker for providing for their family. We can not just drop Oil , not going to happen. But if we introduce other renewable resources( many) we can slowly "reduce" our dependency on petroleum. As they mentioned , wind towers are all over the place now. Biofuels are on the rise, there is no one solution that will ALWAYS work. We need a lot of oil now, but we can change that over time.
I had actually waited for an hour for the derrick to fall....then when I was on the phone with my wife it fell! I flipped the cam on quickly but the autofocus too maybe 10 seconds and by then it was on the ground...so I have it falling but badly out of focus..I will always regret missing it on cam
How about everyone who wants to use this as a chance to whine and cry and gripe about this industry needs to get off the internet because back in the cave days they didnt have internet and that is what you would be living like if it wasnt for this industry. So shut your mouths and just be Thankful for the men and women who risk their lives everyday to make your lives easier!!!!
I'm sure you drive a total electric car, live in a total electric house, and only do great things for our country. The people like you are why our world is so messed up. If you think that any engineer could know there was gas @ 900' and should have planned it better you need to climb to the top of one of those beautiful wind towers and jump. If someone knew exactly where gas was then I wouldnt have a job trying to drill into these gas zone. The only other decision that could be
I was about 5 miles away rigging down my MWD tools and saw it on fire. We took a ride towards it just to see what was going on. I'm happy that everyone got out safe and no one was hurt. Just a reminder of what can happen.
this is a tragic loss of equipment. somebody should have talked to people who have drilled in that area. air pockets can be encountered we drilled one 1mi south and 1 mile west of sweetwater school and at 640' it came to see us. we knew it was gonna be there and installed a rotating head bowl on our conductor before we started drilling. p.s. dont watch BLACK GOLD those guys suck and will be lucky if somebody doesn't get killed in that circus. the oilfield i work in is nothing like that!
Why do people want to gripe about the oilfield and the wind towers? I am very thankful for them. I live in NW Ok. and am surrounded by wind towers and oilfield work. We move the drilling rigs for a living and thank God each and every day for the oilfield, it keeps us from driving cross country. We have 2 locations marked off across the road from us for drilling and the wind towers are going up all around me. Gripe if you must, but I agree with TheAngelwings4u.
But without the oilfield our economy, that our wonderful Presidents have almost obliviated, would have crashed and burned. These jobs have put money, jobs and a future in the hands of each and everyone of us. If you think that you havent been effected in a positive way by the oilfield than you are a bigger idiot than you think. Quit attacking these men for doing there jobs. Anything man made is going to fail. So check your self fool. AGAIN no one was hurt and I thank God for the oilfield
Why are there so many of you speaking about something you have no idea what you are speaking of. First of all, do you know how much energy there is to start the wind towers you idiot? Without clean natual energy these options wouldnt be there for you. Accidents happen in any and every situation. We should thank God none of these men were hurt. I have respect for wanting to take care of our environment and this is not an "evil" against this topic.
@payton4406 there was no BOP cause ther were setting casing shallow and they dont put BOPs on shallow parts cause very rarely do they find stuff shallow
jsl345 -yup, crazy like a fox. I went back to school to study Respiratory Therapy to help people poisoned by these toxic fumes. Now that I know my tax money goes to subsidize this poisonous industry, I limit vehicle use to once maybe twice a week, downsizing my housing, hope to live next door to NREL & walking distance to store. I help promote Renewables ~ those that DON'T get on the bus will be left behind! I grew up w/ criminals then ranched for 20 yrs.(a way of life isn't always a right way)
@njkohlman Before you get on the internet and start making nonsense comments you need to study up on whatever your wanting to gripe about that day. I'll be perfectly happy to not get on whatever bus your stupid butt is riding on. Remember this industry is the reason you can still drive your vehicle once or twice a week and the reason you will be able to cook, have hot water and all the other luxuries in your downsized house, and the bus that the crazies will get on is run by this industry!!!!!!!
njkohlman- you are crazy....this is a way of life in this part of the world. I am sure you have or do have a car that runs on oilfield products, have lived or do live in a home heated by natural gas. This has been going on for YEARS and is what this part of the world survives on. Accidents happen-look on here for the wind towers that have exploded, maybe someone should have been a driller....lol
I can guess there isn't any Sweetwater in THAT area any more. Hey lady, korri01, please send your husband to school to learn Renewable Energy and get out of this dangerous industry! Obviously the Engineers on this project didn't know WHAT they were doing. Solar and Wind does NOT explode and burn. Glad he is OK, though. I refused jobs just because of these dangers.
@korriO1 my husband works on nomac 62. We heard about this almost immediatley, because my husbands cousin was the driller on 62 last night and they could see it from their rig. My prayers were going out to everyone on that rig. Good to hear that they are all okay. We were in El Reno for a safety class held today. As you can imagine it was a big topic.
I have been told no one was hurt. That is a very good thing. I hope no one left their wallet in the top dog house. Back in the late 70's and early 80's, they burned 'em down fairly often in this area.
We are working for OXY, and thank GOD they have been setting surface strings @ 540', Luckily i had my stack set when we hit one @ 945'. S. East of Crlsbad NM.. Had H2S, Natural, and CO2. If not we would haqve been a running.

WE CAN CREATE A BETTER WORLD WITH JUST GETTING RID OF OUR POLUTION INDUSTRIES! WE CAN ALWAYS FIND ANOTHER WAY TO DO SOMETHING!
A WHOLE NEW ELECTRIC GRID FROM COAST TO COAST WOULD EMPLOY LOTS AND LOTS OF PEOPLE!
HYDROGEN IS THE WAY TO GO! UNTIL WE FIGURE OUT COLD FUSION TOKAMAK ETC..

So, do think this is an environmental disaster? Gas stoves, some cars, some power plants are all run from clean natural gas.
