ANOTHER CLASSIC MEMORY FROM THE 80S - A HUGE HIT IN THE DIARY OF MY LIFE. EVERY 80S VIDEO I WATCH TURNS THE PAGES AND MAKES ME SMILE AND SAD IN A WAY. I SO WANNA GO BACK NOW .
Regardless of the sound quality of this particular upload, This song is brilliantly produced. This is 1984, and the analougue production is as clean and crisp as a cold winters morning. I heard this track for the first time in a while, some months ago, and it blew me away. Today the music industry is full of minor talents that have massive hard drive recording studios at their fingertips that make them seem talented.,...........THEY ARE NOT TALENTED. they target silly kids who buy their shit.
All time fav. and all time classic. I love Howard Jones.....lol...once upon a time I swore I would find him and marry him. That obviously never happened.
Howard Jones, along with The Human League and Belinda Carlisle will visit Smart Araneta Coliseum in Manila, The Philippines to perform on Oct 10, 2011.
The time of exitment and innovations 80-90's. Videos as if longing for brighter futures. Attempt to purify outwardly in glamour that is immpossible dream
It seemed that almost every band in the 80's, came out with teir best work time and time again. I THINK THE 80's is an excellent example of what music is all about.
i grew up in the 90's.but i have always had an interest in 80's music.my early memories of music were the early 90's stuff, red hot chili peppers,dr.dre /snoop dogg ,nirvana,GNR and so on.i feel that the 80's changed music for the better.there was an abrupt change in music.when the 90's came along there was a smooth transition in sound.1988 music blends well with 1992 music.but now a days everything is so unoriginal.american idol rejects and disney kids..madonna rip offs.this decade sucks
A fine musical arrangement from Howard's debut album 'Humans Lib'. I was never mad about synth music but this stuff made me think again. His basslines in particular are still amazing to listen too. And oh yeah, I had my hair like that back in '83 too... lol
Don't get me wrong I love this and most other new wave songs, but the 80's in particular were a bittersweet time. The one thing that is true about America then was that technology made huge advances. But ironically crime in our big cities was exploding. That trend started in the late 60's though. Philadelphia and Chicago were hit pretty hard.
@clarkbell Well that was down to demographics as much as anything plus you had that fascist Reagan in the whitehouse who cared more about illegally funnelling money to the contras than attempting to reform the busted arse thing you called a health system. Your native americans are still discriminted against far worse then the blacks in the inner cities too btw. Peace:)
@zapkvr Sadly I don't think the Native Americans will ever be discriminated against any less then they are now. They only difference is....9 times out of ten you will just see us fighting our way through, rather then crying about it! Peace to you as well :)
Every decade had music that was great. If you love rock as I do there is still great and unique music being made. I think there is just too much rap and pop out there now so you have to search much harder for the music you like.
Its a common opinion that the early 90's were a bad time for societies creative based industries. The reason for this is simple, AIDS and the Regan Administration's reluctance to acknowledge the seriousness of AIDS. No homophobia can change the impact gay people have in this area of our social structure. When you define any culture it is by their dress, music, art, cosmetic appearance, entertainment, food....all of these aspects of a society are the glue that give the people their culture.
In the 1980s I became a teenager, went through high school, and got about halfway through college. The 80s truly was my decade. I miss them, outrageous hairstyles, excessive makeup, ridiculous clothes, Brat Pack movies, and all.
'I DIG - YOU ACT' the oz said to this Cowboy...- but It's a One Way Street 3 Me ... When The Law Stopped me and said Sir, Do you know this is One Way Street ! ? I'm Only Goin One Way Sir ! copper said yes sir but it's the wrong way....Fine, I'll Reverse up a one way street in I'm too drunk to Funk. No, I didn't get it Eyeither dither an Freeze like a Fridge Song @ 2SOULXCHANGE.. "i" Elle Nutter..
I had a black and white check shirt back in that era! The clothes, the songs and the hairstyles were fab!! There's no more exciting time than early '80s!.
Love it love it he could do a new one. This song has never gone away... the sound in this video doesn't give this song what it is in the quality of new technology. Love you Howard !
the 70's and 80's were times of great music and , well bad hair. it's time people listend to music to see if they like it and not let simon cowell tell them what they like
Brilliant techno-pop song! The 80s were a fabulous time of music exploration and fashion excess and quirkiness. I loved it! I have the most wonderful memories of that decade. Music played a huge role in my life then and shaped me, changed me forever. Thank you, Howard Jones, thank you.
When they made this video, they didn't know you needed a permit to film in Paris. It's an amazing job with a small budget and crew considering that, for most of the shoot, they were running away from the "authorities".
Did I mention it's my favorite song of all time...video or no video.
i remember when i was like 7 on fam. road trips my dad would play this song over and over and over again. Brings back fun times...now im 16 and life is a total draaag
An excellent song regardless of genre but it is a real synthpop standout. Easily in all top 5 lists I would guess. As to the question asked by Mr. Jones I can say that there is love but that I don't know what it is. When this song came out 27/28 years ago I recall that I thought I was a real know it all on a lot of subjects and could tell you very easily what love is. This man's songs have always made me think I must say.
For some reason, I find the concept of Howard doing things before the actors do them really cool, like he's controlling what they do. It's strange. Also strange that I'm looking so deep into it.
I grew up in the 80s in a lot of ways its like today. the clothes are about the same skinny jeans 50s 60s mixed in . unemployment was high worries about nuclear wars 38 to 40 kids in a class room . People getting killed .
Awesome vid! :) Does anybody know who the woman with dark hair is at the beginning? I think she was in a coffee ad in the mid-'90's but not 100% sure. would really appreciate ty!!
You may be thinking of Sharon Maugham, who was in the Gold blend coffee ads in the UK in the 80's. Tony head was also in the ads, and he went on to start in the Buffy The Vampire Slayer TV series.
This is one of my favorite Howard Jones songs. I really remember this video (especially that weird fountain with the snake and skull-it creeped me out; does anyone know if that fountain still exists?).
the sound is very nice, Rupert Hine has a wonderful feeling for "how to make a Song work" in the 80ties. (Later as well, hear some old Teitur Songs (first Album) so nice.)
Anyone who wasn't an inpatient in a mental institute on daily megadoses of Thorazine regards the 80's and Reagan years as a time of optimism and hope. As mentioned the "fall of the iron curtain" all done w/out the bloodshed of war! The dollar f- rocked compared to today. Even children know of the glories that were the 80's. Unless one's excuse is clinical depression or psychosis, the 80's should be appreciated for what they were-AWESOME.
Haha, they were. If you ever wanna make white people show their paranoia then bring up race as a topic. One reason the 80's rocked was because the President, Reagan became so liberal throughout his administration it was as if we had a thinly veiled Democrat in office. His cabinet were the ones getting hands caught in every cookie jar. From War in Nicaragua to the Wall Street crisis after Gary Hart was caught with Donna Rice it was Bush and co. who blatantly flaunted their involvement like 00s.
I must agree about the eighties, you know for a long time in the eighties I was convinced the seventies were the best but not any more. Rock lost its way in the seventies, pop music in the eighties got its mojo back BIG TIME.
what a classic , still as original and compelling as the first time i heard it, stood the test of time well and not a whiff of 80s naffness about it....masterpiece.
This is a great song. I wasn't even born yet when this song came out but I can still appreciate how it has stood the test of time because of it's direct lyrics. Great song.
I was there in 1983. It was a truly wonderful period to be alive. I was working at a car dealership and I met my wife there in 1984 which makes it even better. This was the soundtrack to my life. Excellent.
the 80's were the 80's. if you didn't grow up in them then you can't possibly understand them. I did and miss them. Just enjoy your own era and stop downing others.
There truly was some kind of magic in the air-that kids and adults -American and European-felt such a sense of optimism and happiness. I am glad I was there, and enjoyed them in real time. I hope my children have a similiar experience, sadly, it's not looking to promising.
Uh excuse me, Reagan wanted to blow the world up. I can remember the anti nuclear movement of the eighties at its peak, let me tell you there was precious little optimism until the iron curtain fell. Reagan also turned the $US dollar to shit. The only President in U.S. history worse then Reagan was George W.
@suedehead1166 i did not grow up in the 80 and i "understand" then.... i like their cloths the shows(miami vice of course) i wear carrera sunglasses ...(the one crockett had in the first episode) and i have the hair like him....
So were the 90;s as well as our current decade, and likely the next one too. What's changed? in 20 more years someone will be complaining how people are dressing today, about their personality flaws, etc, and people will be selling out until the end of time.
totally agree with you....every decade has sellout artists. So many are always critical of the 80's, but it seems to be the decade that artists today keep borrowing from and copying ( and not very well ).
@ChopstickBrando --are you kidding me? All the experimental music with sythn and techno and European influence? What a lovely decade break from the wasteland of 70s, banal music. Fashion, music, it was all good. Each decade has it's fan base. The great thing is, I think, the 80s allowed me move through the next few decades without too much culture shock. I love music from the 90s, 00s and now into the 10s. If I grew up in the 70s, I don't think I could have transcended as easily.

The Eighties were actually kinda lame, LynneM25. Lot of big hair, vapid attitudes, shameless sellouts and pastel colors. That was about it.

@sociallyineptguy Pssh, I've been downing the generation since 2000s. I'm only 22.. I loved the 80s and 90s stuff.
